Hi one last time today. Many have written me for the complete setlists from the Java Joe's gigs last weekend. They were both incredible marathon length shows so it's taken awhile to get the setlists together. (They follow below) There were so many special moments that I'm still in a daze from it all. The Garage Orchestra set will keep me high for months to come by itself...... Everything is accurate except I had to speculate titles on several of Gregory Page's songs. If someone can correct all mistakes on that part of the setlist, I'd appreciate you privately emailing me. AmyJo was completely enamored by Gregory so she's particularly curious, too. Also, if anyone knows the name of Joy Eden Harrison's drummer & reedsman, I'd appreciate knowing that, too. It's gonna take awhile for me to get it together, but Volume 3 of "Future Folklore" will contain highlites of the shows this past week. I've already discussed Jewel being included & she has agreed to allow me to include "Jessica" & "Lasciatemi Morrire" on this next "Future Folklore" volume. If all the other artists agree,a few performances from them all (including John Castro's solo public debut on Wednesdays LRT show) will also be included. Logistics & input from the performers will take a while to figure out. The recordings are spectacular. Wendy (the house soundman & JJs personality) allowed me free riegn to get ridiculously elaborate with recording equipment, seperate tape feed mixes off the board & microphones suspended from the loft for "room ambience". I assure you that "Future Folklore-Volume 3-EDAF Thanksgiving" will be well worth the wait! Also, on a side note--Wendy wrote me this morning to say THANK YOU to all the EDAs that attended. It was not only a great time for staff, but a very successful weekend for Java Joe's. He said they'd definately consider doing this again in the future. :-) OK. Enough rambling....Here's the unbelievable setlists from last weekend. Ho Ho Ho! :-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Dec 1997 17:41:15 -0500 () From: Jeff Kirschner Subject: Superbowl Article Hey all, Found this article on the web regarding Jewel's decesion to perform the American national anthem at this years Super Bowl. Now, if only we could get Jewel to perform a rousing rendition of "O Canada", I'd be in complete heaven :): Friday, December 5, 1997 Jewel Kicks Off Superbowl; Boys II Men Play Halftime Show The NFL has tapped Jewel for its first-string Super Bowl team. The Alaskan native will perform "The Star Spangled Banner" for the January 25 event at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium. "I am looking forward to performing at the Superbowl in January," the singer said in a statement. "San Diego has been my home for the past five years, and it's exciting that the Super Bowl is coming back here for the first time in a decade." The gig puts her in some exclusive company, including Diana Ross, Billy Joel, Whitney Houston, Garth Brooks, and last year's "Banner" performer, Luther Vandross. Super Bowl XXXI's half-time show will feature a tribute to Motown's fortieth anniversary. The label's Boyz II Men will headline, followed by golden oldies Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, and the Tops. It appears that previous reports placing Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, or Michael Jackson on the field were premature. In any case, the half-time show will be a welcome relief from last year's lip-synching Blues Brothers disaster. Peace, Jeff :) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Dec 1997 17:48:53 -0500 From: "Queen of Jungle" Subject: SJC: Short Stories & Poetry Hello all! I was listening to Foolish Games, and, for me, that song paints a very clear picture of the situation that might have inspired it. I've written a short story that is based on that song. Now ... I want to make a web page devoted to short-stories that have been inspired by Jewel songs. So ... I'm looking for contributions. Send me your short-stories with the subject line reading: JEWELS OF CREATIVITY. Along with the story, please include your name (unless you wish to remain anonymous, which, in that case, just write ANON), a brief bio on yourself, and the song which has inspired the piece. I'd also like to have your email address posted at the end of each story so people can send you their comments. If you do not wish to have that info posted, just indicate that in your message to me. I would also like to include poetry so send that stuff my way as well. I will keep y'all informed as to the progress of the page. THANKS!! :) Nina-tah, Queen of Jungle ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 05 Dec 1997 17:50:24 -0500 From: Doughboy Subject: Hidden Meanings from a good Primary Source (Hopefully the last post!) So, I propose an EDA gathering on New Years > Eve, somewhere around San Diego or Las Vegas (that's where the Jewel concert > is). Right now, I am considering San Diego, so we can have it at Java Joes. I personally think this isn't fair for all the East coasters.. you guys had a San Diego Thanksgiving meet... and sure, jewel is playing out there on the left coast... but a lot of eaxt coasters can't afford to fly out.. especially me who hasn't been to an EDA meet in over 3 months.. What do we say about this holiday thing.. it depresses me :( I meaan you can hav eyour meet but can someone out there plan a concert on the east coast? lemme know.. i tried to get an east coast gathering up and i got a few names and stuff (like 20 or so) i just need someone to actually plan it.. ttyl - -linda :) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Dec 1997 11:16:03 -0800 From: "Adrian du Plessis" Subject: NJC: Re: San Diego artists Katie, The barefoot angel asked "Does anybody know if any of our beloved San Diego artists besides for Lisa Sanders and, of course, Jewel has released a c.d.?" I know that Cindy Lee Berryhill has released two albums and two CDs (the latest is Straight Outta Marysville), Elizabeth Hummel's CD is The Cauldron, Gregory Page has one or more CDs (San Diegans can fill in the names I'm sure), The Rugburns have put out at least 3 CDs (Taking the World by Donkey is their latest, I think), Mary Dolan and Joy Eden Harrison I think have CDs but I'm not sure, Tara MacLean, not from S.D. but certainly beloved by EDAs, has a full length CD and an EP, and Wendy - he'll probably show up on the next Future Folklore tape. I'm sure other people can add more info to this list. So if you can find their music, support these worthy artists. Everyone I talked with on the Thanksgiving weekend thought it would be really cool - and good for business, too - if Java Joes was to stock and sell the CDs by these performers 'coz they're not always easy to find at record outlets. Just rearrange the cheese cakes or whatever and put in tapes and CDs. Dennis, i know you've been close to that 'glue' lately, but be like Bill and don't inhale ;) actually, your post did have some jewel content.. but i'll take any chance to insult the great Harris.. ;) As for the Harris Clan, where the hell are you all? or do you keep your presence at a distance and strike when it's neccessary? :) >Hey, >we all kid around, and God knows we EDAs are BRUTAL with each other! >Quite frankly, to be around me for long you MUST have a sense of humor >and a large bag of salt (taken a grain at a time, of course), or you're >in for a world of hurt! (I hear several hundred "amens" murmured in >response already! ;-) You see.. i find things out after the fact, all the time,... now you tell me that i had to bring a large bag of salt with me when i had the privledge (i use this in the loosest sense ;) to meet you, that bag would have been great to stuff in your mouth so you wouldn't talk so much ;) but seriously, for what it's worth, Dennis (as always) makes excellent points, and he seems to put a lot of thought (where he gets it from, i don't know) into what he writes, and he genuinely cares for everyone on this list, it's something that you don't see everyday, and it's encouraging to read. Even though he is a Harris, listen to him! :) the point i wanna stress is: Think about what you're posting, before you post it, i never really put any thought into my posts when i originally joined the list, and i really didn't give much thought about the person on the other end reading it, if it was worth posting to the millions of people on this list. Then i met some of these wonderful people and i realized, there are people, many many many people, reading what i'm saying, and i smartened up.. if that's at all possible :) And i gave everything i put up on the list, some thought, now don't get me wrong, some stuff that i posted and was a part of on the list, was really wacky, but i guess sometimes some humour is allowed ;) In short, think. And Dennis, when are you gonna come to Toronto?? i'm still waiting ;) or are you deathly afraid of us Canaliens? take care all, Gian Northern Sounds: Check out the local Toronto musical talent here!
