Here's the plan... A New Years Eve gathering would make more sense than a Christmas, because everyone is spending Christmas with their family and plus there is a giant Jewel concert on New Years Eve. So, I propose an EDA gathering on New Years Eve, somewhere around San Diego or Las Vegas (that's where the Jewel concert is). Right now, I am considering San Diego, so we can have it at Java Joes. Now, I have to make one thing clear. I do not expect this event to take place on New Years Eve. There's a concert that many of you are doing instead. I think it should take place January 1st or perhaps even the 2nd. Here's what I plan to do: - -- film footage for the video on a road (for those coming, I will explain the concept of the video and then you will understand why) - -- attend the gathering and film parts of it - -- use the gathering as part of the music video -- (you'll see why, later) - -- Here is an idea. Maybe a (short) EDA Concert can take place. A few EDAs will sing a couple of Jewel songs and perhaps they can be used on a second EDA Tape, if there ever is one. Sort of like live material by EDAs. ;) - -- We can also make an open mic for anyone who wants to sing Jewel. - -- Perhaps we can get one of the "San Diego musicians" to perform for us. - -- Additional events can be added to this gathering, but you guys can help contribute to that. Perhaps we can have an EDA Trivia Game or something of that sort. Or, we can play some Jewel-related game. This is totally open. Any ideas? Right now, all I basically know is people want a New Years Eve gathering, and I want to film it for an EDA Music Video to "Angel Needs A Ride" (which we can copy for everybody after it's finished). I am leaning towards having it at Java Joes but if anyone has another idea, please pass it to me. We also need more ideas on events during the gathering. Maybe a picnic, or we can have a circle of New Years resolutions? Or, we can just meet and talk? This is your turn to provide input, if you are interested in attending (and even if you're not). Please send your ideas PRIVATELY to me at MAXMOUZE@aol.com. Thanks, and I hope to meet some of you next month! =) Mm__) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Dec 1997 20:25:00 -0800 From: Jay Johnson Subject: Re: EDA Project Ideas: xmas card tree The Lovable Angel wrote: > > F) A Christmas gathering > > if we can't do this, maybe we should just do a Christmas Card list and > stuff.. being tht i am not getting much for christmas (money's tight and > my whole family is ready to disown me) i told myself that as long as i get > some nice hopeful cards from my EDA buds i'd be ok :) since it's not the > gifts that count... but on the other hand.. i'd love to have an EAST COAST > christmas bash since thanksgiving was in the west... This New Years Eve concert is his only performance for a long while in the Boston area. He will be playing at Club Passim in Harvard Square...two sets! I do not know the *exact* time of each set, but I will find that out as it gets a *bit* closer to his show. If any of you Boston area (or otherwise) EDAs are interested in hanging out, Phil Poje and I will be there with bells on. =) I have also invited people from my other email lists, the Tara MacLean List ("Inthe Wings") and the POE List ("Angry Psychos") to come join in the fun. It's always cool to get to know other people on lists. The ITWers are pretty awesome, and those of you EDAs who are also ITWers, well, you know how much fun it is with all of them around! And the POE list is also owned by smoe.org. It's pretty amazing to see the diversity in the POE list...ien knows all about that! ;) The fun does not have to stop with the concert! Boston has a major "First Night" celebration. For those of you who are notfamiliar with FN, it is a program which is catching on across the country. Basically, it's a sortie and entree from one year to the next alcohol free. It's really cool to see communities unite, everyone dedicated to enjoying themselves sans alcohol. A $10 pass gets you admission to all the festivities of the evening...movies, performances, (i am pretty sure) concerts of sorts with local performers, and parties all over the boston metro. area. After all the fun, I am sure we can divvy ourselves up between the homes of various Boston EDAs...I know that my house can't fit all of y'all...it is a comfortable place, really nice and all, but I know that some of my housemates already have plans for using house-space and that there will already be guests in the house. Actually, Phil and I have a whole wonderful new years eve planned. and *I* would love it if you would all want to join in. I am sure that phil would, too...he is such a sweetheart with such an open mind and soul. =) besides, it's probably his best chance to meet many of you locals, since he is visiting all the way from canada! we are going to spend the day making bagged lunches and giving them to homeless people we meet until we run out of food. This is the Christmas gift we are giving each other. If anyone is interested in either joining us (aka make a bunch of bagged lunches at home then meet up with us as we journey around harvard square, davis square, the boston commons), please get in touch with me. =) the more the merrier, always! and please remember the soup kitchens, temporary safe havens, women's shelters, and inpatient sections of hospitals over the holidays...and everyday! it seems like we always make so much time to send email to each other, watch TV, work on beautifying our homepages, and do all these other things that we so often seem to take for granted. it's like...if we make the time to do all this, can't we just reserve a few hours to smile on each other? there will still be time to watch TV or catch a movie or talk on the phone or check email. I dunno, just a thought. if anyone is interested, seriously, in any of this, please email me ASAP. There are details to work out, such as how many passes for First Night should be purchased, etc. And any of you Boston EDAs who can help out by offering your homes, please PLEASE PLEASE get in touch with me! well i should go. my wrist hurts, even while being wrapped up in this brace... For those new to the list, let me re-introduce myself -- Dennis Harris, instigator of the Harris Clan, arguably the father of "NJC" and the only EDA to ever be (fondly) cursed to "go to the bad place and visit the mean guy with the pitchfork and tail" by our beloved angel Jewel (at JewelStock, no less)! Anyway, I've met almost 700 of you EDAs over the past eighteen months and attended practically every major list gathering. Actually, my main interest in this list lies less in what Jewel is doing than what this list is doing together. While it may appear Jewel is the flame that draws EDA "moths" together, I see her as the candle wick that enables the flame -- and the flame is the attitude, love and desire we have within ourselves and recognize in each other. Calling one's self an "EveryDay Angel" has a nice sound to it, but I feel it doesn't fully ring true or make a profound difference in your life until you meet and discover this exceptional group of folks. (And true EDAs are far too beautiful to be considered anything less than BUTTERFLIES, anyway.) Yeah, okay, group hugs and other gushy nonsense... Silly words, you think? Naw... Once you join in -- and have been there, done that -- you'll hum the same tune. (Trust me. I'm Harris.) On Jewel's comments: she says what she wants to. Gob bless her for it. Let's all be a little less petty and show less "knee jerk" response to what she wears, says, or eats, for christsakes... One of Jewel's comments after JewelStock last summer was that she was impressed how "caring and non-gossiping" the EDAs were -- so let's live up to that reputation already! I've personally had a number of rather unusual Jewel encounters (some better than others, but never the same kind twice!), and can say that she has earned my respect as a talented, hard working soul with a good heart. Enough said. Despite not feeling well, Jewel appeared at Friday's Java Joe's show as a surprise guest, in what I suspect was a vote of confidence and appreciation for The EveryDay Angels Foundation getting off the ground, and for her EDAs in general. I had the unique pleasure of meeting all the performers during the week, and came to the conclusion that there are lots of egos and "well developed" senses of humor out in San Diego. Hey, we all kid around, and God knows we EDAs are BRUTAL with each other! Quite frankly, to be around me for long you MUST have a sense of humor and a large bag of salt (taken a grain at a time, of course), or you're in for a world of hurt! (I hear several hundred "amens" murmured in response already! ;-) So, my points are: 1) Don't be so quick to build up Jewel and tear her down. Nor to analyze her (or anyone else) like a bug under a microscope. (Let the sorry muckraking press do that dirty work, they're paid "professionals".) 2) Keep in mind every story has at least two sides, which together never add up to much more than half the truth anyway. 3) Get out to an EDA gathering (or two) and see what the "EDA Phenomenon" is really about. This list is a good start, but it is simply the tip of the iceberg. Roll up your pant legs and jump on in, the water's fine! :-) That said, I think I'll start making up wild stories about Thanksgiving week in San Diego already...
