First of all, let me just say I still love you guys. I have been gone for the past few days, and my email has backed up on me. I was reading over the digests, and thinking to myself, "Look at this, LOOK!! Its a cycle! This happens over and over, someone picks apart something and turns it into a huge controversy. . . arrghh!" I know there isn't much going on with Jewel, and everyone may get bored, but lets work on getting to know eachother so we'll all be psyched about all the EDA gatherings and concerts when Jewel comes back! I see that a lot of the *true* angels sit back and wait for the contorversy to pass, because they know from experience that theres not much you can say that EVERYONE will agree with. But thats the way life is! Just because we're every day angels doesn't mean we're perfect people. Let a little slack for mistakes, it happens! Now I wish to express my envy for those who attended the Thanksgiving EDA gathering. I am in shock that Jewel came, that is a privelage I wish I could have taken part in! I have yet to see Jewel's face anywhere but in pictures or thru my binoculars at the Lilith Fair. . . but yet the woman is my inspiration and currently my life support. On to business. . . although I am a bit stuck here, I am still able to dub tapes and have people mail them out for me. I have my cute little collection of 12 tapes, and am looking, BEGGING for a trade! Please email me if you want to trade or have extra time to dub a lil fer me!! I know its not much, but I hope these words spoken from my heart have reached your soul, please keep in touch with me, I love you all dearly! No if's and's or but's. I met her about 2 months ago with some other EDA"s and although she was visibly tired, she made it a point to stick around and talk to her friends, her suppotr, ya know? She asked us all these questions like what keeps us going, wht's our favorite macaroni and cheese? ANd when David Baerwald came over they all gave big smiles and talked a lot and she was just.. really happy and exuded charm... A lot of the people I see say that Jewel has "turned into a bitch because of her fame" never even talked to her for a minute... if even an hour like I have.. A lot of the people just base their feelings on it due to other peoples. Before I went up to see her, I was beginning to lose hope about her because I heard stories of her being really mean and stuff, but she wasn't.. When she's performing she gets mad when people talk during her playing and she shss them... I would too.. it's hard enough to concentrate as it is and Jewel had dyslexia so she needs to concentrate even more.. And the Lisa Sanders thing.. i never heard her... and i dunno if Jewel really said she was pathetic or not.. jokingly or seriously.. I don't know, but Jewel can have her own opinion I believe and if she felt she had to tell this Lisa person then, all the power to her, althought I think the wires got mixed up somewhere along there because I don't think jewel would do that... i really honestly don't... well that's my buffalo nickel.. take care - -linda the lovable angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Dec 97 07:46:52 GMT From: st_kuo@ix.netcom.com Subject: Jewel at Java Joe's--In defense of Jewel Hi fellow EDAs, It was truly a magical nite at the Java Joe's and I had the most wonderful time there but it's *very* saddening to read EDAs who thinks Jewel is this rude person who insulted Lisa Saunder and telling people to shut up. Now I was there since 6pm and all through out the night and I doubt very much Jewel said those things to Lisa. It's true Jewel likes to tell people to shut up(if you have any of her live performance on tape-the angelfood-you will know) but Jewel has never(in my opinion) said things in rude fashion or malice. Jewel frequently apologizing to the people she told shut up to and has never chew anybody out in public. That's *NOT* Jewel. As for Lisa Saunder I wonder how people can hear Jewel while the show was going on. We didn't see Jewel until after Tara's performance and after that when Jewel was behind the counter chatting with many of her friends of JJ I was there trying to take pictures of Jewel and not once did I hear her talking trash about Lisa or saying her music is pathetic. Everybody I saw was in good spirit all through out the show. Don't you think there might be some kind of conflict ensuing if she did say that? Again that is absolutely out of character for Jewel and I have to say if it can't be proven then it stays as a rumor and it's best to keep this type of rumor to the minimum on this list to avoid any mispresentation of Jewel. I understand that people just want to give their side of the story but I don't see how Jewel can say that and I can't hear/see it(I was close enough to see any reaction of everybody behind the counter). I am not saying that people who said it is lying but I do want to let EDAs know that it's nothing more than a rumor so please keep this in mind and not jump to any conclusion. Whew I can't believe I talked for so long. That night at Java Joe's is one of the best days of my life(and $10 worth spending) and anyone who wants any scoop on that day can email me. Thanks. BTW I wonder if the guy who sat next to me on that night is Matt. At least Jewel didn't! >> I agree! As a musician/performer/whatever myself, I think it is horribly tacky to read parts off of music stands, etc., especially for a production that big. It is simply impossible to get into a character when they stare down at a script every five seconds. It seemed rather odd... Which brings me to something else -while I did think that Jewel made a great Dorothy (no one should doubt her acting abilities any longer!), it seemed to me (and maybe this is just a sort of response to the unprofessional nature of the script-reading) that many of the other parts were totally miscast. You can argue that they were big names and therfore had little time to prepare, or whatever, but my view on it is this - if you're gonna do it, charity or not, do it well. And some of these people......well......didn't. Overall, though, it was a very nice production, with excellent starring by Jewel (the audience loved her, too!), and I thought the Harlem Boys Choir as the munchkins was awesome. alana. pucafddlr@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Dec 1997 00:36:18 -0500 From: "Greg Brown" Subject: Re: WHO is Jewel Well, I don't know Jewel, nor have I ever met her. Turned on the t.v. tonight and in one hour there was two advertisements for POY. This is the most advertising for Jewel that I have seen in my state in Australia. She's finally getting recognition Down Under :) What was interesting was the fact that she is being plugged as the hottest new artist this year. Wasn't POY released in the USA in 1995?? Anyway, what's it matter. It's recognition!!!!!!!! The big plug was for Foolish Games which has been released here recently and is sitting around the top ten, could be higher, but I haven't checked recently. To all the EDA's who participated in the Thanks Giving activities, congratulations on some wonderfull events. I hope to be involved next year if I can get to the States. To the other EDA's in Australia, e-mail me, I'd love to hear from you. Perhaps we can do something local. Anyway, thanks for reading and until next time, stay healthy and true to yourself.
