I think we should start having a chat room again, but maybe not as formal. I was thinking that we should go into a private room called EDA whenever we feel like it. There may not be any people in there at times, but it's less formal and there's no times to tie you down. I hope you guys start going and a hope we can get to know eachother a little better. Here's a link if you're confused as to how to get to it: EDA . If you need further instructions just e-mail me and I'll be happy to tell you. Hopefully, I'll see you there! Bye! Long time no write. Okay let me start from the beginning. I was listening to 99x the other day and they played a live X special. I remembered that Jewel had did a Live X with 99x and so I called the radio station. To my amazement the the line was actually not busy! But anyhow, I asked Yvonne(DJ) if there was any way that I could get a recording of the show. She told me that they don't usually give out copy. And then she said that they usually play a lot of the Live X's on Christmas eve and day, AND that she would write them a note stating that I wanted Jewel to be rebroadcasted. Okay I'm not promising that they will play it but I have faith in them and if they don't I'll be sure to bug them until they do. So all you fellow Atlantans out there, be sure to listen to 99x around Christmas time if they do replay it! Sarah (The Violin playing angel) P.S. Does anyone have a recording of the Hard Rock Live on video tape? I would really like a copy of that. So if you are willing to make me a copy, please write me back. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Nov 1997 17:17:25 -0500 (EST) From: Zaria2@aol.com Subject: Re: Hidden Meanings (Near You Always) Hi! I'm sorry if I'm dragging this thread out, but I wanted to give my opinion of the song. I think that Near You Always also has to do with following up and keeping promises. Like when Jewel sings "Please don't kiss me so sweet/it makes me crave a thousand kisses to follow" I interpret that as saying something like don't do that to me if you're going to stop after this. I'm sorry if this is vague but I know what I mean exactly about this song, I'm just having trouble describing it. Also, there is no wrong way to intrepret a song. There are so many meanings that you can attach to ideas in your own life. It's the same thing with poetry. What I'm saying about the meaning is just the feeling I get, not what is. Bye guys! "Amazing!" is what I thought about the whole event that occurred last night at the Java Joe's, the premiere of the EDA Foundation. In retrospect, I'm surprised at how close I was actually missing the once-in-a-lifetime event. I caught a cold earlier in the week, and yesterday the stuffy nose and the sore throat almost convinced me not to drive 2 hrs.+ down from L.A. to S.D. In the end my bro and I finally decided to take off around 3:30 p.m. so we can beat the traffic. Due to two previous disappointing meetings with celebrities, when all sorts of things happened to our cameras that resulted in a lack of memorable photos as well as autographs, we packed one camera, several rolls of films, Tara cds, and tape recorder before we left the house. Next time, I shall remember to bring some snacks, too. There were a few annoying traffic jams along the way (including a 18-wheeler toppled on its side with its content ripped open in the opposing traffic), but we made it there approx. 5:30 p.m. So far, so good. When we arrived, it was evident that we got there a little too early. We chatted with Mr.BB (from the Jewel list) and ordered a couple cups of coffee and cocoa. After we met with a guy from EDA list we sat down on a table just so we can occupy the spot for the reminder of the evening. The first performer(s) called themselves Babes in Toyland. It was made up of a young girl who was around 13-14 yrs. old, with her older siblings(?) playing a couple of guitars to back her up. She looked a little nervous whiling singing two Jewel songs, after that they went off the stage. Next was Lisa Sanders with Mary doubled as backup vocal and guitarist. It was the first time I saw her perform, and she was terrific! Now I know what the fuss was all about, and I hope I can catch her some other day. After she's done, the host came up and announced "The next performer is from Canada..." Immediately I knew who was to come: Tara!! Tara came onstage with Bill (actually Bill went up first to tune his guitar). I was rubbing my eyes and pinching myself; I couldn't believe that Tara was there, smiling with her wonderful smile only several feet away. I forgot what she said but she talked about how exciting she was being invited to play at this first EDAF event. Her set list was as followed: Let Her Feel the Rain I Do Evidence Holy Tears Jordan (first time I heard it; great song!) RED! (I love this song!) Silence (without acappella) I must say that any hard-core Tara fan absolutely must check her out live onstage, because she is just simply amazing and has a real good sense of humor. When she finished Silence we rushed to where she was with our camera and cds. We were the first in line and she signed our Tara LP and EP :) I told her that she was fantastic but I think I sounded like a dork =) And then the host unexpectedly announced that the next performer was JEWEL! My jaw fell down several centimeters. Jewel! She wasn't supposed to be there! But there she was, with her trusty guitar and dressed entirely in black. She played all new materials except for the last song: Jessica. We couldn't get close afterward to get an autograph though, until she came out when she decided to leave and she signed my Java Joe's t-shirt :) Elizabeth Hammel and Gregory Page, respectively, performed after Jewel. Jewel was backing up Elizabeth's song with Greg, and it was really funny to see Jewel and Greg sharing a microphone and screwing up the chorus. Liz admonished them teasingly by saying "You guys can do this; you are professionals!" Tara was leaving with Bill, but ended up chatting with everyone outside Java. It just goes to show how sweet and friendly Tara really is. This is the most amazing nite of my life...I'll never forget it. Hope you like my not-so-comprehensive report. Ciao! I'm very sorry to once again bring up this new thread, but I think it's interesting. IMHO, I don't think that "Don't" means "get away you scumbag". I think that it means that she had a great relationship with someone, then he dumped her. Then, after she began to get over him, he wanted her back. I think the general message is don't hurt me again by making me love you again. Bye angels! I can't ask enough for EDAs in California(or anywhere else) to get fired up for the EDA concert. Im not gonna point fingers, but it was almost completly ignored when MaxMouze & I metioned it. I love hearing what people's interpretations of Jewel's songs on POY are. If you don't, then I suggest not reading the rest of this email from me. Who Will Save Your Soul- there are so many different kinds of people, and some of us live our lives in a way which may get us into trouble Pieces Of You- There is no reason to hate a certain type of person based on their looks, religion, or sexuality because they're "pieces of you" and we all are the same thing: human Little Sister- Unfortunate people in this world are turning to bad things such as drugs and they don't know what to do with themselves. They are very confused with what's happening with themselves Foolish Games- Knock off this nonsense because the way you have been breaking my heart is really pissing me off Near You Always- Please stop tempting me with yourself because I want you so bad, but I'm not sure if I want to be in a relationship with you -or- Your love is so much to measure up to, and don't remind me of how much I miss you because I'm not sure I'm ready for that love Painters- just a very long time in which they have loved, and it will always be that way Morning Song- I love sleeping in late with you, and I don't want to get up and do anything. I just want to stay in bed and "give you some more" Adrian- just a story about an unfortunate accident which happened, and I can't give a good explanation (sorry) I'm Sensitive- Things can hurt me easily, and everyone should be careful and then try to start making the world a better place. It would be great if the world was even more beautiful because the people would change for the better You Were Meant For Me- We've been through a lot, and seeing it all, you are the one for me Don't- Please, I know how great your loving is, but I can't be with you right now. Don't make me want you back, because I don't think it's right at this time Daddy- I hate how you are. I don't care what you say, because you can't control me anymore. But I did turn out to be many of the horrible things you are. Gee, thanks a lot for bringing me up the way you did, you ##%^^#$&%$ Angel Standing By- No matter what anyone says, you are beautiful and you are NEVER alone, because you have a guardian angel standing at your side. Amen- It is about (indirectly) a friend (I am guessing Kurt) because she said so. sorry if I repeated other opinions or bored you to death. Nicole ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Nov 1997 19:59:31 -0500 From: uranium_eagle@juno.com (Issac J Brogdon) Subject: Hidden meanings Hello All Wow, this certainly has stirred up quite a little controversy. I would like to say to everyone, "Indulge in every opportunity you have to argue with your friends," it keeps the relationship alive. Anyway, there definately is a variance of opinion of Foolish Games. Some say that it's about a girl not taking crap any more and some say it's about a girl with a very strong love, almost a sick obsession. Well, I think the latter is a little more true to the point. "And these foolish games are just tearing me apart." One of my best friends, who happens to listen to Manson, Nirvana, etc., went and bought the FG single, because it spoke to her too much, she was (and still is) in an obsessive relationship, that she NEEDS to get out of, but won't. She doesn't want too. She wants him to stop with the Foolish Games, the endless stretching of her heart by him...she wants everything to be a perfect little utopia. I think that's what FG is about...a girl who needs out of a relationship, but loves the guy so much that she won't, nor does she think she can, leave. Just my thoughts.... Issac Relationships Kindness and intelligence don't always deliver us from the pitfalls and traps: there are always failures of love, of will, of imagination. There is no way to take the danger out of human relationships. Barbara Grizzuti Harrison (1941), U.S. author, publicist. "Secrets Women Tell Each Other," in McCall's (New York, Aug. 1975).
