Its Tommy Hall here (hehehe)!!!!! OK, when Steve Poltz's new album comes out in March, would any of you kind, generous EDAs be able to buy it for me? I know this is a little bit ahead of time, but I really would like to get this CD as quick as I can :) SO, any takers??? Also, could someone record me a video of that Lilith Fair Pay Per View thing? Us Euro-EDAs aren't really in the US's satellite range! I will of course, pay for both of these things if anyone offers to get em for me! And, whoever said it, YEAH! I like SKA!!!! REPLY SOON! I know that we've had quite a few posts on this upcoming weekend's airings of Jewel in "The Wizard Of Oz" on the VH-1 cable channel here in the United States, but, for those of you who (like myself) due to other events in your schedules will not be watching it live on TV but instead will be taping it on your VCRs: VH-1 and its sibling station MTV are fairly famous for beginning and ending some of their programs about a minute or two before or after the specific time for which the official schedule has them listed. In other words, if you have a schedule of the times for the show [which I have reprinted below] and you are using that schedule to set your VCRs, you may want to start it a minute or two early and end it a minute or two late--e.g., for Thursday morning in the Eastern/Pacific time zones, you may want to start your VCR @ say 9:58am and let it run until say 12:02pm. I'm not really sure why they do that--maybe it's to foil tapers:)--but they often do it, so, just For Your Information, that's that:) ----------------------------------------------------- "The Wizard Of Oz In Concert", VH-1 Cable Channel in the US 2 Hours running time, "give or take a few minutes" Thursday, Nov. 27 -- "10:00am-12:00noon" and "6:00pm-8:00pm" Eastern & Pacific times; Late Friday night/Early Sat. morning, Nov. 28/29 -- "2:00am-4:00am", Eastern & Pacific times; Saturday afternoon, Nov. 29 -- "4:00pm-6:00pm", Eastern & Pacific. ----------------------------------------------------- Hope that VH-1 doesn't cancel my cable service 'cause of this post !!! :) HAPPY THANKSGIVING !!!!! This is my 3rd one this month! I know some may not think that is too often but for me it is a record :) I would like to first say that if you feel compelled to "flame" someone for some odd reason please press the "reply" button and not the "reply to all" button. I, however, don't see why we must focus on all the negatives things that are said on this list. Whenever I see a negative post I just read it and then delete it. :) My question is "can't we all just get along"? ;) I would like to commend those who have been offering to dub tapes publicly to the list such as John, Janeene, etc. ::stands up and applauds:: I know how much work it takes into dubbing over 80 angelfood requests. ::prays for the health of her stereo system everynight:: Just a recap..for any EDA who wants a copy of Rare Angels 95 please email me privately with the subject heading "instructions". I believe that John(shallowen on irc) is currently dubbing JewelTide Carols and Janeene is dubing the Geneseo (tiny lights tour) concert. I, on behalf of the list, thank you all for your kindness. :) Happy ThanksGiving :) Take care my angels-- Mary wannabe angel :) "In the end only kindness matters" ~Jewel Kilcher ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Nov 1997 17:16:57 -0500 (EST) From: MikeDreams@aol.com Subject: F.G. Alright, so I lied, there aren't any naked people on mars but it certainly got your attention. At least there wasn't some corny subject heading. I just wanted to be heard, and I know that after reading about five lines of this, you are just going to erase it, so please bare with me. I have been on this line since the middle of August, so I honestly have no right as to say who is blind to reality and who isn't. When Sean said that the EDAs were blind to reality, I knew that he was going to get flamed for it in some way, shape, or form. Most of the time, that is how this works. But did anyone ever stop to think that sometimes, he may be right? Not completely of course. Nobody has the right to accuse anyone what reality really is, because to tell you the truth nobody really knows the answer. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Think for a second, though. Sometimes someone will totally go on a topic, and ridiculously enough everyone gets about five thousand bits of unneccessary information on nothing. But that is how we are. That is how we work. That's what makes this fun. Talking about nothing. If you don't want that type a mail, then anyone can easily delete it. Some people like to carry on old conversations, but really we don't need 50 billion people responding to it. It doesn't matter though. No matter how much anybody bitches about the subject, it's not going to stop or solve anything. I say, just leave it alone and move on with your e-mail. It's all good. This takes place on March 7, at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium here in San Francisco. Tickets are $100 for main floor, $60 for preferred seats, and $30 for balcony seats. This show is to benefit the T.J. Martell Foundation, which helps find cures for cancers and AIDS. Usually, the nominees are mostly local, but this year is different. Lot's of other big name nominees too, including No Doubt, Sheryl Crow, Wallflowers, Beck, Coolio, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, and many others. These ppl are just nominated and might not be attending. Performers have yet to be announced. Can anyone confirm if Jewel will be attending (MrBB) ? Thanks for listening, and take care. Court ------------------------------ Date: 26 Nov 97 21:15:40 +0100 From: "Chris Groves" Subject: Jewel lyrics - "...bland beyond belief" No, that's not my opinion, but that of the author of the following review of Jewel's last London gig. It's published in this weeks New Musical Express. - -------------------------------------------------------------- NME 29 November 1997 Jewel, London Shepherd's Bush Empire (14th November 1997) It's a display of sycophantic applause rarely seen outside of a parents-only school concert. But prior to the appearance of the 23-year-old multi-million-selling Alaskan, you would be forgiven for thinking you had mistakenly stumbled into a cathedral, the only sounds disturbing the reverential air being the rustle of sensible coats and whispered sobriety. Then they explode; yeehah-ing, decrying Britain for not giving the object of their affections a hit, sniggering guiltily when someone shouts "Power sucks!", as if party to some illicit rebellion, and applauding orgasmically if Jewel does so much as tap her foot and strum her guitar. Which she does a lot. This is an endless array of folk and country strumalongs that are not so much tunes as gentle wisps of acoustic whimsy. Played with all the feeling of your average busker, this is everything that pop - exciting, youthful, majestic - isn't. To think otherwise you would have to be either over 30 or preternaturally dull, probably both. Still, that famed voice is very impressive. She trills, warbles, yodels and howls like an operatic diva doing vocal exercises, but - the snarling revenge fantasies of 'Daddy' and 'Nicotine Love' aside - the lyrical content is bland beyond belief. Meaning pointless ditties about catching a cold, and squirmsome broken relationship banality. Then she is joined on 'Foolish Games' by a bloke plonking a piano like it was a dead fish, and anyone still capable of rational thought desperately tries to spot the difference between this hideously-overblown and fatally-melodramatic warbling and Meat Loaf's 'I'd Do Anything For Love...'. Jewel has somehow managed to fashion a glittering career out of a great voice and little else. Don't be dazzled. I think that all of her songs are part reality and part totally made up, theres metaphores and stuff that make it all sound totally made up, but I don't think it is. For example, little sister was really about her friends brother. And Daddy wasn't about how her father was a scum bag, it was about how a friends father of hers would let his children look or talk to black people. Stuff like that! I also heard a rumor that she said that Foolish games is about a boyfriend, but now that she looks back at it she says it was about how she didn't really fit in at school.
