I was just wondering what channel the Wizard of Oz is going to be on this Thanksgiving. Someone said VH1, is this right or is it TNT, which it was originally aired on? Does anyone with one of those old fashioned satellite dishes, (those big white ones) know what the pay per view special about Lilith is on? Or anyone with info on the location and channel could drop me a note and let me know. One more thing, I was channel surfing this afternoon and came across a channel called CBC, I think it is Canadian but I'm not sure. Anyway, there will be a special about Lilith on Dec. 5. I'm not sure of the time as they didn't say but everyone with access to this channel be looking for that. - -Karen ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Nov 1997 15:55:29 -0800 From: blowingbubbles1@juno.com (tRiXiE ~*~ BaBy) Subject: blowingbubbles1@juno.com (tRiXiE ~*~ BaBy): ~*~*~NEWBIE ON BOARD~*~*~ ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* http://members.tripod.com/~Neato_Burrito/index.html*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ , will someone adopt me as a newbie??? I was curious: has anyone on the list ever tried to compile a database of EDA songwriters/musicians? I'm curious as to who else is out there. :) I think it would be great to set up some net of communication between the various musicians on the list, for the purpose of sharing ideas, perhaps working together, or even making an EDA "compilation album" (i.e. a bunch of "demos", even low-fi stuff, that could be put together on a cassette and distributed to those on the list who would like a copy). We could also just make jokes about each other's respective instruments. (What do you call a drummer without a girlfriend? "Homeless.") ;) Lemme know if any of you other musicians out there are interested. Danke. :) Peace, Josh |-- --- ----- -|- ----- --. JennyDansr@aol.com wrote: Subject: Making up songs? Somebody made a post about how Jewel had to pretend she had a boyfriend and that they were breaking up and all of this stuff when she was 16 in order to make songs. Why would she be concerned, at this age, about writing songs? She always says she never expected anyone to hear them and it's just a way to let out emotions and stuff, so why should she lie in them? (end quote) Jenny, I think she was role-playing, doing with words and song in her mind what kids do with costumes and games in their neighborhood. And heck it was probably about the only thing she could do if she felt lonely and isolated like she might in AK or HI. I don't think she was being deceptive when she did this role-playing at 16. When she was that age she could hardly have imagined she'd have the audience she has now for those songs. It was probably a lot better for her that she acted her fantasies out in song than in reality. Has anyone forgotten what most guys are like when they're 16? What kind of songs would that experience evoke? Whether she's ever dyed her hair or not, Jewel's no riot grrrl, and her style of guitar playing does not lend itself to repeated choruses of "what a dork, what a dork". She says much more than that in her own style on "God's Gift to Women" and "Race Car Driver". ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Nov 1997 10:11:26 From: Kellie Subject: Re: Making up songs? Hi all ... on this subject, I would have to say that I can relate too ... I write a lot, and while a lot of it is my own personal dealings with feelings and with problems, a lot more of it is just made up, fantasized. I write about people, I write about movies, I write after having a bad day. If I am sad, I may write a sad poem, but I also may write a happy one to cheer me up. I also notice that when I write poetry that is from self experience, I don't just write one poem ... I often write 3 or 4 from different perspectives. Another peculiarity I find with my writing is that I hate to revise! Anyone else like this? I would just as soon write a brand new poem than to change one I have already written. I look at it this way. When I wrote something, I had a particular feeling, and if I revise it later, that is like saying my feeling did not matter ... Just curious about the rest of you all :) Gotta go to class Kellie --- the angel with a poetic hand ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Nov 1997 17:36:49 -0500 (EST) From: Prism14960@aol.com Subject: Re: Jewel Dreams Hey Angels, Someone posted their recent Jewel dream and asked for others, so here's mine. :) I've actually had a few, but this is the most recent. I'm getting way too many confused people writing me for the REAL itinerary, so..... Here's the final update about who exactly is performing & whats going on at the various EDA events/Java Joe's gigs during Thanksgiving week & weekend. A lot of NEW info is included since last time this was posted. If you plan on attending, please take a few minutes to read this ( & maybe print it out) to help plan for yourself accordingly. I'm also told CNN is filming both Friday & Saturday nights at Java Joe's so this EDA Weekend is gaining media attention daily. I've contacted management for all the performers (including Tara's) & have authorized plans to do elaborate recordings of all the musical events. So join in & be immortalized in the "Future Folklore" of the EDAs! Although other musicians are always likely to join in, here's the amazing schedule for the entire week: Wednesday-Nov 26th- Living Room Tour (Gig #15 for those counting) Morales-Boos Home, Capistrano, CA 7:00 PM (for info & reservations-contact Tom & Nancy at milagro4@primenet.com or call them at (714)443-3623.) The featured performers will be Elizabeth Hummel AND John & Jeff (of the Rugburns). Lisa Sanders & Mary Dolan may also perform. A $10 donation is required (for the musicians). Quite the cast of EDA characters will be on hand & a night of great music & EDA hilarity is assured. Directions: Take the 5 freeway (from San Diego go north, from Los Angeles go south) to Capistrano Beach. From the north, Capistrano Beach is just south of San Juan Capistrano. From the south, Capistrano Beach is just north of San Clemente. Exit on Camino De Estrella. From the north, turn left over the freeway bridge and go to the second light right in front of the Unocal Station. From the south exit on Camino De Estrella and turn right to the first light right by the Unocal. You will need to immediately turn left at the light on to El Molino. Continue on the residential street to the second stop sign where you will turn left on to Calle Juanita. You will then come to another stop sign and to your right you will see a park called Sunset Park. Go straight through this stop sign and then make your first left on to Calle Carmelita. It will be difficult to see the street sign but if you just veer left you=92ll make it. The house is a blue Cape Cod, address 34445 Calle Carmelita, three or four houses down on your right. Thursday-Nov 27th-"Thanksgiving Get Together With Rachel's House" at 2:00 P.M. This is a women's shelter and the purpose of the visit is not to feed them, as they will be having their meal at the Hard Rock Cafe earlier that day. The sole purpose is to socialize and visit with them and just give them a little of our time. If you'd like to bring books or magazines, flowers, or an instrument to play I'm sure it would be appreciated. Or if you're a hair stylist or know how to give a good manicure feel free to bring the tools of your trade. To get there take the 5 south to downtown San Diego. Exit on Broadway or G Street. Turn right and head west 10 blocks or so to 8th Street. If you were on G Street turn right and if you were on Broadway turn left on to 8th Ave. The shelter is at 759 8th Ave., San Diego, CA 92101. If you are in the caravan you won't have a problem finding it, but if you plan on meeting us there and have a difficult time finding it; here is the phone number-619 696-0873 (ask for Yolanda Dodd). Friday-November 28-EDA Thanksgiving Brunch at the Morales-Boos Household. Meal time will be somewhere between 11:00 A.M. and 12:00 P.M. The Morales' will be cooking or catering this so any donations will be greatly appreciated. Dennis Harris will be the main chef and if you have ever tasted Dennis' epicurean delights this is something not to be missed. (See above info for directions & reservations) Friday evening- Nov 28th- Java Joe's; 4994 Newport Ave., Ocean Beach, San Diego. 8:00 PM Start(?) This will be the official public unveiling of the EDA Foundation. Confirmed performers include: Gregory Page, Elizabeth Hummel, Lisa Sanders, Babes In Troyland & special guest Tara Maclean. Other great San Diego talent will be on hand, so other performers are likely. Tickets are $10.00 per person. All are encouraged to bring clothing to donate to the EDAF "Jamaican Clothes Drive". This is open to the public during regular hours & will become a private all night EDA party after "closing time". This is guaranteed to be an unforgettable night! Saturday- Nov 29th- Java Joe's; 4994 Newport Ave., Ocean Beach, San Diego. 8:00 PM start Cindy Lee Berryhill & Friends. Joy Eden Harrison is flying in from Chicago & will be the 1st performer that night with her combo. Following Joy, Cindy Lee will be performing with former members of her incredible Garage Orchestra & resurrecting some amazing material. This will also be a VERY memorable night. I believe tickets are $8.00. Sunday: November 30- 9:00 PM Java Joe's; 4994 Newport Ave., Ocean Beach, San Diego. Another bonus for all the EDAs coming to San Diego for the first time will be a chance to see another local favorite- Randi Driscoll. A perfect ending to an incredible weekend of great music & great friends. EDAs from all over North America will be on hand for many of these events & its sure to be another legendary week in the history of this list. Here's to wishing everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!
