There's a picture of her from 3rd grade or something in US magazine (i forget which one. it has will smith on the front) and her hair is as light as it is now. I think her hair is that dark because when she was in wizard of oz she had to dye it. and she kept it brown for WWSYS. I'm not sure if that's right...but i think it is. have a great day! This is total NJC but I am desperately searching for any of the Pop Up videos of Nirvana or Pearl Jam. I have seen them for Smells Like Teen Spirit, Jeremy, and Heart Shaped Box but couldnt tape them. Or if you have any of their "regular" videos from MTV or VH1 I need those too because my tape is nowhere to be found of them :( So if you have any let me know please! Thanks! Jewel has dark eyebrows and sometimes they appear blond (in person i'd say they're medium..) and her hair appears brown sometimes but in fafct she says she is a blond... Dark blond hair is referred to as Dirty Blond... and well I'm sure jewel must have dyed her hair at least once to get a lighter blond because she does have roots ;) I have dark eyebrows.. very dark actually... however I'm a natural blond... My hair gradually darkened and relightened over the years and when i was 5 i achieved "Dirty Blond" status... but since i've dyed it like 100 times so i dunno what color it is anymore (people tell me strawberry blond) either way you can't base a person's hair color on their eyebrows .. try looking at the roots ;) ttyl - -linda :) On Fri, 21 Nov 1997, Tessa wrote: > hmmmm...sorry to drag this subject in the dirt some more; BUT, I think that > Jewel has dark blonde hair. Claudio Monteverdi (occasionally spelled as Monteverde) May 15 1567 - November 29 1643 has been described as "an innovative genius with creative powers comparable to Beethoven's". He was considered daring and avante-garde and one reviewer has said his music "..exemplifies the paradox of the muse in chains yet soaring". He composed during the early baroque period. Although today he's less broadly known than such later artists as Verdi (1813 - 1901) and Puccini (1856 - 1924) who are most popularly associated with opera, Monteverdi composed what is acknowledged as the first great opera, L'Orfeo - it premiered in 1607. (A minority of musicologists view it as the first opera - - period.) Monteverdi's wife, the court singer Claudia Cattaneo (they married in 1599 and had three children) died the same year he composed L'Orfeo. (This may explain the association by Jewel's instructors at Interlochen with the "death opera".) The composition "Lascia te, mi morire", that Jewel may be singing on her current concert dates, does not, however, appear to be an operatic aria. If this is the same song, it was created as part of Monteverdi's Book VI of Madrigals (out of a total 8 books of madrigals) and published in 1614. (Here's a music history lesson I found on the web that updates song forms from Monteverdi's time to the Beach Boys and beyond e.g. the Spice Girls: "The madrigal is a form of secular vocal music that flourished in the 16th and early 17th centuries. The earliest madrigals were published in Rome in 1530. Italy remained the home base of madrigal writing, although the form did spread around Europe and became especially fashionable in England. Madrigals are perfect examples of polyphony. Polyphonic music combines several simultaneous, more or less independent melodic lines and was the principal method of composing sacred and some secular music during Monteverdi's time. The opposite technique is called either monody, which is a solo song with some sort of accompaniment, or homophony-essentially the same thing, in which one voice leads melodically and is supported by chordal or slightly more elaborate accompaniment. Most l9th-century classical music and almost all contemporary popular songs are homophonic." I can see a thread about homophonic pop music starting up... :) "Lascia te, mi morire" was first recorded (on vinyl at least) in 1937 when it was performed by Nadia Boulanger. (Boulanger, a French composer, teacher and musicologist, helped bring Monteverdi's work to the attention of modern audiences.) Released on Pavillion Records, this album of Monteverdi compositions has a catalogue # GEMM CD 9994 so perhaps it's still available. One recording that could also be located is Monteverdi's Madrigals Book VI by the Consort of Music under Anthony Rooley. The sopranos singing these madrigals - which include "Lascia te, mi morire" - are Emma Kirkby, Evelyn Tubb and Sarah Pendlebury. Catalogue under Virgin Veritas 91154. If Jewel is giving life to this work, then I hope you all find these words interesting. At the very least, we all - well, those who are still reading this! - - know more about the birth of opera, madrigals and Claudio Monteverdi now than we did ten minutes ago. I can't wait to hear her sing it - that's what it's really about. It is well placed during the love scene toward the end of the show, and they play quite a bit of it. The song and her voice suit the mood of that scene perfectly.
