Then Jewel goes on with the rest of the message: "Hey, you've called at a really bad time...etc." :) It's pretty funny and we smoothed it out so that there's no blatant signal of a .wav paste job.. So either no one cared or no one could see it and didn't bother letting me know. So I'm trying again. The location address changes each time I log on so if I get disconnected I would have to repost to the list the new address. This time it is http://207.218.60.217 and I have family pictures in there. I'll try to switch it back to Steve Poltz but as I am just figuring this out I have not had too much success. If I can have someones help checking to see if you can connect I would appreciate it as I am trying to get this to work so that everyone can see the EDAF Thanksgiving unfold. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 1997 21:53:11 -0500 (EST) From: FabSurfGal@aol.com Subject: Re: Jewel List Management: Special requests - all please read :) Mike...Mandy here. I think we should double check with "Jewel Management' about the Howard Stern thing. I heard the sydication of 30 minutes of the show about 3 months ago while in San Francisco. I think there may be a discrepancy as far as they are concerned because of the involvement with the E! show...currently the word is that Atlantic is fighting the E! show and other sydications of the broadcast for a fee that nobody wants to pay. This same issue happened with another Atlantic artist a few years ago. So, Mike, and everyone else...I leave you with this...I heard it, I reported it, and I will call Howard's line tomorrow and see what else I can find out. Well well well, here I am, after threatening to leave so many times. . . anyway I can't stay away from you, the love is too strong! I thought I'd write a bit to kind of get back into the flow of things. Well, most of you don't know but over a month ago, I came down with teburculosis, which most likely was contracted from a group home I was in for a couple months. Anyway, I always get sick, so when I started feeling bad I avoided the doctor because I hoped it would just go away. Okay well, long story made short, I lost my right lung but made out pretty well with a kidney transplant. . . now I am bedridden and will be for six months or so. My career as an aspiring preformer has been shattered, at least for now, as I can barely talk. I still lay in bed and strum my guitar and whisper the lyrics I can remember, but its not the same. Anyway I can dub angelfood still, and am not as overwhelmed as I was before with all of it. If you would like my list just e mail me and we'll work it out! I just wanted to say that as a long time member, I have seen the EDA's go through so many conflicts and things, and we always made it through strong because WE ARE IN FACT EVERY DAY ANGELS, and Jewel and her love and faith bind us together for now. Jewel, contrary to what most of us believe, that she is a superior and perfect human being, is only human. Some list members take little things she says and blows them way out of proportion. . . the thing is that we are here to be angels, so lets do what we are best at, and love and support another! I just love you all so much and would hate to see it fall apart. I am happy to be back to normal and am looking forward to sharing the rest of this year with you all. Lots of Love ~Angela~ The Littlest Angel With the Biggest Heart (forever!) This is one of several that Jewel recited at UCONN during the recent Papillon Tour gig there in September. Enjoy, MrBB (in an effort to have some Jewel content on the list ;-) Because I Love You by Jewel Kilcher (September 1997) It's time now to leave Quiet the mind of it's chatter Still the riot in your heart Disarm the tongue of it's dagger Tell your arms not to worry so And listen..... Step into it Lift your face into the strong wind Least we miss it's meaning Such cold beauty exists here Do you see it? Like the landscape Frozen & waiting to be born Let me bundle you in clothing And soft things Because I love you I will not send you out into the night With teeth marks & pride I have stripped you of We will prepare each other We will make up our own ceremony I will draw a compass on your belly Tell me that its OK Before you turn me loose Into the endless sky Let me kiss you & then send you on your way For Winters can be long And I will need a friend ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 1997 20:57:47 -0500 (EST) From: Edgegirl1@aol.com Subject: Re: Jewel What's Happening In a message dated 97-11-19 09:46:45 EST, you write: << I've seen that quote a few times, but I'm not exactly sure of the source. The AIM Messages post reminded me of a parody I wrote ages ago and forgot to post. This came about after a long car trip. I noticed that at nearly every gas station we stopped at, Foolish Games was playing. I wondered, "hmm, does she have a big gas station following or what? maybe she should pay tribute to them in a song!" So here's what might come about...(note: I'm not trying to insult gas station workers, we all need them, :), this just deals with stereotypes) "Fuelish Games" You took your gas cap off, left the motor runnin' You always pump your gas like that And I watched from the counter Just to make sure you wouldn't gyp me again You were always the big cheeseburger type, with large fries and a secret sauce You liked all my tattoos, but pretended not to stare Then you walked through the entrance with nothin' to say 'Cept to wonder why the doors have locks Well in case you just can't read, or in case you didn't see Shirt and shoes are required, and no loitering please And your fuelish games are losing me my job, and your older brother Otto's in the mob Otto's in the mob You always chatted when you were drunk buying your cigarettes and talking about Slurpees Your philoshophies on beer Budweiser changed you, you loved Coors light and you'd speak of your psychic friends and I clumsily rang you up You speak of incoherent things Things that cause cancer, things that are green Things that knew what 3 for a dollar did mean I hid my stolen goods behind my back Some time I'll admit that I took the time-lock safe Well excuse me, guess I charged you the wrong price Cost of premium blend not this cheap unleaded And your fuelish games are losing me my job, and your older brother Otto's in the mob Otto's in the mob Otto's in the mob *Keep in mind it was rather late when I wrote this!:) Be well, Erin ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 1997 13:03:11 -0800 From: deanorez@juno.com (Gerard D Perez) Subject: Southern California Show Dates (for possible gatherings) These are some show dates that many EDA's, ITWers, Fumblers, Appleheads etc. will be attending in the next few months: + 11/19 - The Sundays @ the Mayan Theatre ** 11/19 - Elizabeth Hummel w/Kim Lankford and Ellen Cross @ the Ghengis Cohen ** 11/21 - Lisa Sanders @ Borders Books, Torrance (7/7:30pm) ** 11/21 - The Annual Andrea O'Donnel Benefit w/Mary Dolan and other female performers @ Thomas Paine in San Diego + 11/22 - Lisa Sanders w/Mary Dolan @ Del Mar Fair Grounds (7pm) + 11/23 - Gregory Page @ Twigs, Tea & Coffee in University Heights ** 11/26 - LRT featuring Elizabeth Hummel, John Castro, and others TBA @ Tom & Nancy's Home in San Juan Capistrano ** 11/28 - EDAF w/Lisa Sanders, Gregory Page, Elizabeth Hummel, Mary Dolan, Tara MacLean and others TBA @ Java Joe's, Ocean Beach ** 11/29 - Sarah McLachlan w/Madeleine Peryroux @ the Universal Amphitheater ** 11/29 - Cindy Lee Berryhill and members of the Garage Orchestra w/the Joy Eden Harrison Band @ Java Joe's, Ocean Beach (9pm) 11/30 - Randi Driscoll @ Java Joe's, Ocean Beach (9pm) ** 12/4 - Cindy Lee Berryhill @ the Mint (9pm) + 12/5&6 - KROQ Acoustic Christmas featuring Sugar Ray, Fiona Apple, Smash Mouth, Third Eye Blind and others (venue TBD) ** 12/5 - Dayna Manning @ Borders Books, Santa Monica (7/7:30pm) ** 12/5 - Lisa Sanders @ Opus Books in Pasadena (Colorado Blvd) ** 12/6 - Dayna Manning @ Little Frida's Coffee (9pm) ** 12/7 - Christmas Concert featuring Sarah McLachlan w/Barenaked Ladies, Tara MacLean, Abra Moore, and the Devlins @ UCSD's Rimac Arena=20 ** 12/7 - Dayna Manning @ the Bourgeois Pig (2:30pm) ** 12/8 - Barenaked Ladies w/Tara MacLean @ the El Rey Theater ** 12/9 - Tara MacLean @ Java Joe's (9pm) +12/9-14 - Joshua Redman w/Brian Blade @ the Catalina Bar & Grill ** 12/10 - Tara MacLean @ Luna Park=20 ** 12/12 - Tara MacLean @ Border's Books, Santa Monica (8pm)=20 ** 12/12 - Fiona Apple @ the Wiltern Theatre (9pm) ** 12/13 - Randi Driscol @ Grounds Zero Caf=E9, North Hollywood (8pm) ** 12/13 - Tara MacLean @ the Wherehouse (La Cienega Blvd) + 12/20 - The Sundays @ 'Canes Bar & Grill in Mission Beach ** 12/20 - Cindy Lee Berryhill w/The Negro Problem @ Java Joe's, Ocean Beach (9pm) If you'd like to keep up with all the various happenings on the West Coast you can subscribe to this mailing list that I created for another list while this list was in moderation. Granted, someone in front of a large audience who says, "This isn't about being cool, even though I am the coolest person here," could easily be taken as arrogant as well as hypocritical. However, someone who says precisely the same thing while rolling their eyes and talking out of the corner of their mouth could just as easily be taken to have a sense of humor and an acute awareness of the predicament of fame. I, for one, tend to lean towards the latter in the case of Miss Kilcher. |-- --- ----- -|- ----- --.
