I may not always have good ways to word things that aren't songs or poems but I'll try my hardest in portraying my feelings. I agree with Tessa on the way IRC works... people are cruel.. and people will ban you for foolish reasons and sometimes just harrass you for no reason. I'm not sayign anything bad about the EDA's on IRC.. some of them are very nice people but a few of them well, aren't... I mean sure Rachel said she can't be nice all the time.. and nobody can... and of course nobody's MEAN all the time right? WWell my problems on IRC were because of some certain EDAs on there being extremely rude to me and I know you guys know whho you are.. and I know you'll deny italso. Sure I was waiting for the one day these guys and girls would stop their 24/7 PMS but it didn't happen... I'm not naming names, but I'm pretty sure these same exact people upset some other #EDA newcomers. In a majority, you guys have all been well-behaved (as far as I can tell for myself) but a few are for lack of a better word "bad seeds" and so bring the channel down a little bit. I haven't helped of course those who i'm pointing at will say, but then again, I _tried_ to be nice.. and I haven't gotten upset in a channel for a while.. Anyway wwhat Im trying to say is that I see wehere someone wuld get upset iwth the #EDA channel now because of this fairty-tale facade of how we're all perfect, but rather because we expect at least the same amount of love and caring as we find on the list. Besides, aren't we the ones always telling everyone that if there's nothing nice to say, don't say it at all? Practice what you preach guys come on One final note, please don't take this personally unless you know for a fact that i'm writing this letter to one of you IRC people out there.. I know how easy it is to take it all to heart... also this is not mentioned to be a slash-and-slay on anyoone love yas - -linda the lovable angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Nov 1997 17:44:31 -0500 From: Crunch Subject: LOL (anti-christ) =) Personally, I found the "Jewel...AntiChrist" Web page hilarious! The merchandise just came in this past weekend & is now officially at the warehouse. The 1st 100 orders have already been shipped & they will continue to fill orders in a timely manner as promised. There is no reason to be concerned about any order. I've recieved many emails about orders & I just want to ask you to be a bit more patient. The website has only been up for less than two weeks! It takes a little time to process orders. So, expect a few weeks wait before an order is delivered to your door, please. Although unconfirmed, I'm fairly certain that Jewel is performing on December 10th, in NYC for the UNICEF Benefit. This Benefit will feature a large roster of artists, so it is NOT a Jewel Concert. Quite likely Jewel will perform one song, so its nothing to get crazy about regarding tickets. I think this is at Madison Square Garden but I'm not really sure. I am sure, however, that this benefit will be televised on TNT Network with or without Jewel. BiBi will have info on this on the website if & when it is confirmed. Also, the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo Norway is confirmed. Jewel, along with Sinead O'Connor, Boyz II Men & others will perform at this on December 11th. Anti-landmine activist Jody Williams will be honored at the concert, and some of the proceeds from the show will go to the international campaign to ban landmines. AmyJo is in a "lyric transcribing" mode, so she'll try to get a few of Jewel's new song lyrics posted over the next few days for your reading pleasure. :-) Best wishes, MrBB *********************************** New to the list? Hello folks, First of all, I am an extremely infrequent poster to the list for the simple reason that I don't have time to read all of the mail that comes through...I usually just scan the headers and see if there is anything that interests me (as a hint, make those subject lines informative, people!) Now, IRC is something that interests me, and I have made it a part of my life. I essentially live on the #jewel channel on the undernet, and have seen every type of person come into the channel. The recent mail about Joe having a bad experience is just one example of things that happen on IRC. IRC is like that...people will say one thing and mean another, and because we cannot see facial expressions or hear tone of voice, we have to take the person that is talking at the face value of their words. This is where Joe ran into problems, because he wasn't thinking of what other people might think of the words that he had said. (As another hint, I always think about what I am saying before I say it...there IS a use for lag, people...) Joe complained about no one in the channel hearing about EDAJewellery.....ummmm, I have something to say here....I've never heard of it. Granted, it doesn't really interest me either, but I've still never heard of it. I will agree with Tessa in that some of us aren't very nice to newcomers sometimes, particularly when a newcomer gets accusational, but for the most part we are a good group that has a lot of fun talking to each other. The question of what an EDA is has also come up as a result of this. Well, this is what I have to say: An EDA is a person that strives to be good, one way or another. We are not perfect people though, and for that I am actually quite grateful...the world would be a boring place otherwise. As a good friend of mine once (well, more than once) said on IRC: "EveryDay Angel??? Sounds more like EveryDay Asshole to me!" Kind of sanctimonious, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. Another issue that came up was moderation of the channels. Now, I can't say much about #EDA because I refuse to go in there. The reason for this is that I don't see any point in having two channels for something that is directly related. Besides, the only people in #eda are also the same people in #jewel, and I monitor other channels as well. Back to the moderation thing, though. Let me tell a little story....I was in #jewel back in the days before we had the [Jewel] bot, when the only bot was the "W" bot that is spread out through the undernet. Back then, I wasn't so well known, and so wasn't supposed to have ops. But one day someone gave them to me, and I was all happy and stuff. Well, along came a real op that took one look at me and basically said "What are you doing with ops???" and took them away from me immediately. Well, at the time I wasn't at the keyboard. It happens, people....really. This op wasn't too pleased with my non-response, and simply banned me. Not very nice. I came back to find that I had been banned from the channel, and could no longer get back on. The heartbreak! The anguish! The suicidal thoughts that ran through my mind! (I know, I know...you're all thinking "suicide??? This guy is nuts!" Don't any of you recognize drama when you see it?) Well, to make a long story even longer, I mailed the op explaining my position in the matter and things were set right. No flaming bamboo splints in the fingernails, no lashes while strapped to the whipping post, no being forced to sit in a room and listen to thousands of hours of Xuxa wailing cutesy rock songs in Spanish... The point I am trying to make here is that the people on IRC are good people, so long as you give them a chance and don't treat them as if they were hired to serve you hand and foot. As for Gian's side of the story. Ummmm....well.....Gian, you deserve a good kick in the butt! :) Jon Akers http://tscnet.com/~jka Naval Nuclear Propulsion Electrician (but no SatNav!) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #884 ***************************
