I found out that its pretty much impossible to find, but I also found a little intersting peice of trivia: Daniel Woodrell (author of the book) also wrote a book called "Under These Bright Lights", and one of the main characters in it was named Jewel (or Jewell, I saw it written 2 different ways.) Cool. Maybe that's why she got the part:-) Also, even though it is out of print, if you relly want it you might be able to get it from Amazon.com, you tell them you want it and they try to find a used copy for you. The few times I have actually gotten to speak to Jewel, she seemed more than happy to give us her smiles, warmth, and yes, even hugs. I'm sure she is like anyone else in respect to having 'mood swings'. For the most part, she is more than willing to spend time with her fans, but as her fan base grows, this becomes more difficult to do - and I'm sure after some shows she's just tired and just really wants to be alone with her thoughts. I certainly do not claim to be a friend of hers, but this has been my impression of her through nearly 2 years of involvement with this list and JewelStock, Unplugged, etc... which I was fortunate to attend. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that, yes, Jewel is really nice and friendly with ppl - not just during public performances, but she is also human with times that she may not feel so nice and outgoing - - Just my thoughts and ramblings :-) Tammy :-) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Nov 1997 09:44:33 -0400 (EDT) From: fylee@CC.OWU.EDU Subject: madrid concert hello everyone, this is my very first post and i am writing from spain. i was fortunate enough to see jewel this past friday at the hard rock cafe in madrid and it was a fantastic show.. i got front row seats and after the concert, i waited two hours and eventually, somone inside felt sorry for me and let me in..so..i met JEWEL... she is incredibly nice and i cant believe that i met her. i dont have a set list but its pretty much the same as her other sets. who would have thought that a semester away from school would allow me to see and meet jewel......yvonne, the far away angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Nov 1997 09:22:07 -0700 (MST) From: K M Case Subject: Re: Did anyone tape SNL? It's nice to be back again. Just to let you know, while I was browsing through the mag. rack at walmart I saw another thing about Jewel in Twist. I THINK it's the current issue, but I could be wrong. Anyway, they put up the address for our mailing list again, so we may see another tidal wave of new members. What's this I hear about an East Coast EDA Gathering? Oh my, I hope it's near me. I'm so far away from San Diego that when I read about the west coast EDA events I want to cry "Java Joe, come open a store on the EAST coast!" Sorry, I'm over that now. If anyone has anymore info on this, or needs help putting it together, please email me. Thanks. One more thing, I just wanted to remind everyone that there are some young EDA's on this list (the youngest that I know of is 9, I think). I'm not going to tell anyone here what they should or should not put in their email, I respect you all too much to do that. But I would ask you all to be mindful of HOW you put things. I'm referring mostly to four letter words that surface when things get slightly heated around here. I KNOW Jewel will be great. She has a 'normal' personality that will make her so natural that it'll be as if she's just Jewel, which is great...well, it's like the kind of actor/actress that gets up and is so calm ans suave and sure of themself, that it all comes so naturally...I feel that Jewel has that...I don't remember how exactly she got the part, but there must've been auditions, so she proved herself well...I'm just afraid that this BIG acting experience and BIG book deal will affect her to much nad all go to her head...I hope not 'cause I (and all of you) like Jewel just the way she is...at least i hope so... well that's about all for now... Greg, the spiritual angel ------------------------------ Date: 10 Nov 97 22:18:54 +0100 From: "Chris Groves" Subject: YWMFM UK release and Jewel on UK Lottery show. You Were Meant For Me was released for the third time today (10th November 1997) in the UK. It's the European version containing the bonus tracks Cold Song and Rocker Girl. The first time it was released it managed a lowly 53 in the official UK charts. The second time it didn't make the charts. This is certainly Jewel's most visible release in the UK, with some record shops displaying the single in the their windows. With Jewel performing live this Wednesday on BBC1 I'm pretty sure this will see Jewel's best single performance to date, although it only has to enter the charts higher than 52 which is what Who Will Save Your Soul achieved. However she is still getting very little radio play. Here's a bit more information on Jewel's TV appearance on Wednesday 12th November on BBC1 at 8:30 PM. According to the official Jewel web page, Jewel is 'to appear on Englands most popular TV variety show, "The Lottery Show".' A bit of an exaggeration I think. The lottery show is a 15 minute programme broadcast twice a week, it's main purpose to draw six numbers for the UK's official lottery. Each show has one music act singing one song. The show broadcast on Saturdays receives the largest audience of about 10 million viewers. The Wednesday show usual gets about 5 million viewers. However Jewel has been rather fortunate since nobody won the Jackpot on Saturday (quite a rare occurence), the money (8 million pounds) is carried over to Wednesday's draw and so she can expect a much larger TV audience. Hi again everyone! I have some guitar parts for unreleased songs. I have figured out the part for Somtimes It Be That Way!! it's quite a simple song. The hardest part is to keep the strumming pattern controlled during the whole song, its especially harder if you're singing at the same time like I am. I dont have any tab written out yet, but I can try to get it written on my comp, and put it on a webpage for anyone to look at it. its a pretty easy song and i figured it out myself. the main thing that u need to know is that Jewel uses a capo at the thrid fret. then the main chords switch from G to D to C. that should be a start to help anyone figure out the song :) ill try to get the complete thing written out ASAP. if u want to know anything else about this song email me. I'll gladly help u learn it, just listen to the song and try to get it going with what I have told u so far.
