The story follows: "Music to Her Ears" Jewel Kilcher, the 23-year-old singer-songwriter better known as Jewel, who grew up on an Alaskan homestead without television or running water, has just made a $2 million, two-book deal with Harper-Collins. In keeping witht the wholesome tenor of Jewel's multiplatinum-selling debut, Pieces of You, the first book, due in June '98, will be an as yet untitled volume of poetry. "They're typical girl stuff," an editor at a rival house says of the poems. "Falling in love. Wanting to ride a horse. That kind of thing." The second book, timed to conincide with her second album next fall, will be a memoir/scrapbook. - --by Matthew Flamm Why is EW always looking for a negative slant when it comes to Jewel? - -- Best Wishes, Frank Clark Simply Jewel http://www.geocities.com/~simply_jewel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Nov 1997 15:25:51 -0600 (CST) From: Thomas A Baas Subject: Jewel in Shephard Express There's a really nice one page article on Jewel called "Utopia in My Van" in the Shephard Express, a Milwaukee newspaper-like music scene publication. If you read, pay attention to the last sentence. That Kilcher girl really knows what it's all about. - -Tom *the Children's Angel* ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Nov 1997 21:54:31 -0500 (EST) From: YOEST4244@duq3.cc.duq.edu Subject: *Highly Recommend* Jewel on VH1's "Hard Rock Live" Hey Angels!!!! I certainly don't want to keep reminding everyone on this list about the US cable music channel's upcoming repeat of Jewel's "Hard Rock Live" performance, but, this show is *VERY GOOD* and if you get a chance to see it you definitely should. I especially make that recommendation for new(er) Angels, perhaps those who joined this list and became fans of hers only over the summer or even since then. On this program there are a lot of her songs that are *not* on her "Pieces Of You" CD, which of course is the "main" way that most people know of her. Of course, as anyone who is on this list knows, that CD is only a TINY FRACTION of all of the songs that she has written and performs in her concerts--she has dozens and dozens of other songs that aren't on "Pieces Of You" that are as good as the ones that are on that CD. Until her next CD is released next year, shows like this VH1 program that is on tomorrow night are about the only "mass media" outlets for those songs (not counting Angelfood as a "mass media outlet":) ). I forget exactly which of her non-Pieces Of You songs are on this VH1 special, except that I think that it includes "Satellite", "Sometimes It Be That Way", duets with her father and her mother, and other stuff that you won't hear on the radio or on an easily-available CD until "Fritz Creek Store" [the name of her new CD, I believe] comes out next year. If you get a chance, watch it--if you get a chance, *tape* it:) This is a very good Jewel concert that we should all be glad has been preserved for posterity :) The VH1 web page-- http://www.vh1.com ---notes that this program is scheduled to be on twice tomorrow night, Saturday, November 8. Both of the times that I have are Eastern Time--I don't know if this VH1 cable channel targets their times for each separate time zone, or if you are just supposed to convert Eastern Time into your own time zone. OK, for Eastern times, it's scheduled to be on from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, and again from 12:00 midnight to 1:00 am. Once again, I don't know if those times are Eastern only or not--usually if you watch VH1 during the day they give regular updates during their commercial breaks about their programming schedule for the rest of the day. ALSO, FOR THOSE WHO MAY WISH TO TAPE THIS SHOW, the show actually runs for about 1 hour and three minutes, so, if you're going to be setting the timer on your VCR you may want to start it a few minutes early and let it run a few minutes past the hour. It's very much worth watching, and it's very much worth taping, too, so if you are in the USA and you get a chance, if you've seen it before or if you haven't seen it yet, definitely watch it tomorrow night :) I know that several posts have already reminded this list of this show, but one more reminder can't hurt, especially for our newer Angels :) Greg ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Nov 1997 00:22:36 -0500 (EST) From: Love1612@aol.com Subject: picture Hey Guys! This is my first time posting but I thought you'd all like to know that theres a picture of Jewel in a magazine called "All About You" It's in the January 1998 edition. It's Medium sized on page 25. She's dressed in black. It sorta doesn't look like her, but it's cute. If you have any downloaded pictures of Jewel, please send them to me at Love1612@aol.com From, Tasha ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #857 ***************************
