For all European EDAs: If you live in Europe but you don't have ZDF on cable or something like that, then you'll be able to watch ZDF on the ASTRA Satellite. It's available on transponder 33, Frequency: 10.96425 GHz, Horizontal Polarity. It uses the standard audio frequencies (7.02/7.20 for stereo sound). Enjoy the show! Greetings, Tim Hart PS. Also BIG thanks to Marian for the information! I probably would have missed the show! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Oct 1997 16:19:36 -0500 (EST) From: CornflkGl@aol.com Subject: Jewel in Rolling Stone There's a small interview with Jewel in the November 13th issue of Rolling Stone ( the 30th anniversary, Women In Rock issue ). Jewel is interviewed by Janeane Garafolo, and the focus of the interview is women in rock ( big suprise, huh ). There's also a beautiful black and white profile picture of Jewel. Also, in the interview with Tori Amos ( page 104 ), Tori mentions Jewel. Here's the context: Q: Is this presence ( where the music comes from ) the muse ? A: I believe that you must keep bringing grapes and gifts to the muse or the muse stops coming. I argue with her, and I laugh with her. Even if I'm arguing, she knows I recognize that she's there. I'll manipulate a song the way I want 'cause I just like it that way. It's like I'm saying to the muse, "Look, if you don't want my input, go to Jewel." I THINK that was a compliment... I just read that Jewel has been paid $2,000,000 (you heard that right!) by Harper-Collins to write a book of her memoirs. Apparently, the book will come out next fall in conjunction with her second album (I guess that means that the next record won't be out until then). The article also states that Jewel's long awaited book of poetry will be released next June. The article was found on the web. I tried to paste it, but my browser would not allow me to. For the full article, go to: http://www.mrshowbiz.com/news/todays_stories/971030/jewel103097.html Music, books, movies. Forget Howard Stern, it looks like our little Jewel is truly becoming "king of all media". Peace, Jeff :) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Oct 1997 17:05:50 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: Jewel book deal - the full text This is the full text of that article Jeff posted about Jewel's 2 million dollar book deal - Mike Again, the article is at: http://www.mrshowbiz.com/news/todays_stories/971030/jewel103097.html JEWEL'S 2 MILLION DOLLAR MEMIOR The fact that recent celebrity books haven't exactly been flying off the shelves didn't stop Harper-Collins from shelling out megabucks for the life story of pop singer Jewel. The New York Post reports that the publisher has agreed to pay the "You Were Meant for Me" chanteuse a whopping $2 million for a chronicle of her twenty-three years on the planet. That works out to about $87,000 a year, for those keeping track, and it's reportedly one of the largest advances ever given to a pop star. Jewel, who has released only one album, grew up in Alaska and for a time lived in her car while awaiting her big break. The advance is only the latest in a string of huge celebrity payouts, most of which have resulted in underperforming works, including Paul Reiser's Babyhood and Jay Leno's Leading With My Chin. Harper-Collins hopes that Jewel will appeal to that all-important and fast-growing teen market. In addition to her memoir, which will be released next fall in conjunction with her second album, Jewel will also write a volume of poetry. Look for that to hit shelves next June.
