Mandryk" Subject: Thoughts on List Developments I would like to throw my support behind the recent decision to temporarily make the Jewel list into a news only list. In many ways I feel this was a long time coming. When I first joined the Jewel list earlier this year, the atmosphere was very different. People were extremely friendly and the type of people who were on the list was different. What a minority don't seem realize or remember is that it is WE, those of us on this list, that choose to make this list either a pleasant or unpleasant place to be. WE control this list's destiny and each of us are responsible for our actions towards ourselves and each other. Each of us sets the tone in our message and are directly responsible for the tone that's set in the list. Being nice to each other shouldn't be the job of Mr. BB, Mike, Jewel, or any of the list veterans. It should be the job of each and every one of us, to be conscious of the fact that these messages are being sent for Every Day Angels to read. It took me a few months on this list to finally admit to myself that not everyone on this list is an Every Day Angel in spirit. But everyone on this list has the potential to be. Being kind or rude is a conscious decision each of us makes when we send messages and I definitely agree that a breather is something all of us needs in order to reflect upon ourselves and what we're sending for the other 1000+ EDAs to see. 'Cause maybe if we're surrounded in beauty, we'll become what we see. We are every day angels. Be careful with me cause I'd like to stay that way. We started as fans of Jewel and then we became fans of each other. Let's stay that way. :) And be nice to Mr. BB. :) [Quotes cribbed from Jewel and Larry Greenfield] ^_^ Albert Wang Dark Seraph bahamude@user1.channel1.com Jewel Quotes and QTs http://hugse1.harvard.edu/~wangal/jewel.html Tara MacLean Gallery http://hugse1.harvard.edu/~wangal/tara.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Oct 1997 21:24:17 +0100 From: Jimmie Matsson Subject: Tjo... I'll try and keep this brief. 1. Get a news reader. If you have Netscape or Internet Explorer, you already have one. If you want a different program, try... http://www.yahoo.com/Computers_and_Internet/Software/Internet/Usenet/ and pick up Free Agent (PC) or Newswatcher Index (Mac). 2. Call your Internet Service Provider and ask them for their news server's name. Take the info they give you and configure your news reader with it (i.e. in Netscape, go "Options", "Mail and News Preferences," "Servers," and type in the news server name in the "News (NNTP) Server" box.) [If your ISP people don't run a news server, there is still hope -- see my post-script] 3. Fire up your news reader. (In Netscape, go "Window" and pick "Netscape News.") "Subscribe" or "Add" the group "alt.fan.jewel". You can now retrieve all the article headers there. Go read messages at your liesure. [Since alt.fan.jewel is a sorta new group, you may have to pester the people who run the news server to add it.] These instructions are brief and a big vague, but hopefully it's enough to get most people going. If you need more help, email me and I'll work with you personally. - -Jon Dubovsky (a.k.a. Entropy, entropy@iname.com) Here's hoping I'll see you in "alt.fan.jewel" P.S. Oh yeah... if you have a newer web browser and want to jump in feet first without delay, try the following URL: news://news.dma.be/alt.fan.jewel The server above is a free public server which carries alt.fan.jewel -- It's not fast, but it works. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Oct 1997 17:39:34 -0500 (CDT) From: Julie E Graham Subject: German Foolish Games single Hi All! About a month ago, I was flipping through an import catalog in my favorite local record store. I had been bummed about there not being a Foolish Games single(as much as I love Jewel I wasn't going to buy B&R for just a different version of FG). Much to my delight I found a copy of a German FG single. Usually it takes about two days at this record store for an import to arrive, but this was on back order FOREVER! It finally came to today, and it was so worth the wait. The cover is from the photo shoot that is in Jewel's 1997 tour book. She's lying down in some lavender flowers, and wearing a whiteish button down long sleeve shirt. Very lovely. The CD itself is purple, too, the faunt is like all of her other CD's, and there is a tiny silver Batman emblem at the bottom of the disc. Track Listing: 1.Foolish Games (edit) 4:00 2.Angel Needs a Ride 4:17 3.Everything Breaks 3:21 This is really groovy if you don't have these songs on vinyl like me. Some other German imports to look for, all in slim-line jewel cases: WWSYS 1.WWSYS 2.Pieces of You 3.Emily YWMFM 1.YWMFM (edit) 2.Cold Song 3.Rocker Girl Imports can be pricey, but they are a better value than buying a soundtrack for one song. I was obsessed with seeing this movie, but was always too scared to see it. I remember wanting to get the soundtrack because the movie looked cool and I liked the song on the preview, but my mom wouldn't let me because I knew nobody on it. I said "Yes, I do -- I know this person" and pointed to Jewel. I didn't really, I guess I just heard her name elsewhere. So, when my friend said that Jewel sang "Who Will Save Your Soul" (I heard it and asked him the singer's name), it sounded familiar. Anyway, I finally rented it on video (after three false alarms where I chickened out) and it was okay. It was not very scary, but a few scenes were sick. And, when I heard the song, I remembered that it was Jewel! Mm__) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #825 ***************************
