I've seen Jewel 6 times now and I always here about EDA's meeting Jewel afterwards! Is it just because you in the industry or do the EDA's get special privlidges? Because I want some of this! Should I hang with you guts more? Danke, Casey ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 02:30:46 -0400 (EDT) From: MAXMOUZE@aol.com Subject: Ideas for EDA projects Here are some ideas I thought up this weekend... EDA Video Cover Tape We've already had a cover tape, where EDAs sang Jewel's songs. How about a video tape where EDAs perform music videos to Jewel's songs? The song can either be the original with Jewel on vocals or can be re-recorded. Each video will be strung together to make a compilation, which will be treed. EDA Concert If the EDAs can cover Jewel on a tape, why not live? A bunch of EDAs can gather together and some will perform Jewel songs live while the ones who would rather just watch can have a barbeque/picnic. This can take place in a bunch of different cities, or maybe a tour van can be rented and the EDAs can travel to different parts of the USA. What do you think? Please reply to me privately at MAXMOUZE@aol.com if you think one or both of these is a good idea and/or if you want to participate. If you see a problem with one of these ideas, please point this out as well. Thanks, and keep reaching for the stars! Please let me know if you did. I HAVE to have this show! :) The guy that jumped on stage was a jerk. I feel so bad for Jewel because she has to put up with stuff like this. She was a real pro, though, and didn't let it get to her. Mark Oxman (MAXMOUZE@aol.com) was kind of right about the Java Joe's gathering. It wasn't like what I thought it would be. Everyone seemed to be in their own little groups, only shaking hands and saying hi to each other once, then going back to their groups. No one really talked to anybody that they didn't already know, except for some people. It was weird being there. So Danny and I decided to check out the beach. I didn't get to meet some of you. It was like all the talkative people were in the middle...talking. And the quiet shy ones were at the sides, some having their own conversations. Anyways, it was a great concert. :) The Distant Angel, __________________________________________________________________ (` + + | _ +| Inside my heart there's an empty room. _)|)(||`|<_\ +| It's waiting for lightning; it's waiting for you. + | mark + + | -=Jewel "Absence of Fear"=- __________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 02:53:26 -0400 (EDT) From: HRENB@aol.com Subject: For those who wrote me last week re :POY vinyl I lost some of your emails- my old service kept all old mails , just got aol, and i didnt no aol deleted them after 4 days unless you change your preferences. anyways i have a few copies and a couple more expected- so write me again if youre stll interested- peridot, blooddonut, shaggie and a couple others- or, you can try www.cdnow.com- someone recently posted you can get it there for like 18 bucks with shipping, 20 in 2 days or less- email me if youre going to go that route too, so i can give one of my copies to someone else. lonewolf ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 03:52:58 -0400 From: Gianfranco Covello Subject: NJC/NTC: Sarah Slean/Emm Gryner Concert Hi all, just a recap of the events that happened at C'est What in Toronto, on Saturday the 20th of September :) I got into the city at around 4pm, and met up with Steve Ito at his apartment, and met Nathalie from the FTE and Tara list who is from Montreal and was very happy to finally meet her :) Me and her decided to go visit some used CD stores to find some cool stuff.. then we met up with Tom Miles, Vicki and Erica along with Steve at Steve's favourite CD store and we planned our evening :) We arrived at C'est What at around 8pm or so to have dinner, and low and behold Dan and Co. arrive :) Dan brought along his brother and sister, which were a delight to meet :) Emm Gryner was there early and we chatted with her for awhile, she has been signed to Mercury records, and will most likely be promoting her CD in the US soon, so be on the look out for it soon :) not to long after that, James McGarry arrives and so does Steve Lee, always great to meet James :) and it was good to meet Steve again since Lilithfair :) and good to meet his friends, glad you brought so many people man :) you're awesome! :) and last but not least it was good to meet Wojtek K. it was a pleasure to meet you and good to talk to you :) The show started with a musician i didn't take the time to see because i was talking with Sarah about some stuff, she's so amazed that there are so many people interested in her Tape, she sends out her love to all of you out there :) then its time for Sarah to play, she really put out an extra effort for all the people who showed up to see her from around the continent :) She just totally blew me away, she is so fun and exuberant on stage, and then when she snaps into her songs, she gets really "haunting" using Tammy's word there, i couldn't explain it better Tammy :) Her on stage bantar leaves the crowd wanting to hear more and her songs leave the crowd craving for more, i wish her set was longer :) Next was Emm Gryner, she put on an excellent show, totally rocked the place, and even played very very new songs that i haven't heard before, and that was a treat! Good to see her play some new stuff, i hear another CD release in the future :) After the show i got a few more people some tapes and got them signed, Sarah is always left in awe at all the tapes being sold.. she honestly didn't think she would do so well, and i think she deserves it :) She stayed to sign everything for everyone, as did Emm, and they also took a few pics for people. All in all a great night and great memories for me! thanks everyone who made the trip, you're #1 in my books! well that's it :) take care all - -Gian- Northern Sounds: Check out the local Toronto musical talent here! I frantically digged through all my belongings to find Java Joe's phone number. The young man who answered the phone patiently listened to my frantic rambling and handed the phone over to an EDA. Poor Lora ;). She was the unfortunate victim of my nervous breakdown. To this day I have no idea what I told her. All I know is that I kept repeating over and over the nambe of the town I was is. (Soloma Beach). I told her my car broke down like 100 times. She then handed the phone over to another EDA. (Smart move Lora;) ) I then tried to explain to Gerrit what had happenned. Thinking about it now I have no idea what I expected out of that phone call. I was kinda hoping that some EDA would just miraculously have a solution to my problem. Thank heavens both of my friends are Triple A members. (I am not a member). So we called the triple A guy and 45 mins later he arrives. It is now around 7:15. By this time I did not have an emotional marble in my head. I completely shut down. Thank heavens my friends took over the decision making process. The triple A guy then told me that my timing belt broke and that no mechanic will work on my car until Monday. I actually started to cry. I was 4 hours from home (I live in Santa Barbara) and I was stranded. My friends knew me enough to know how much the concert meant to me. They also knew that since they had "triple A plus" they were allowed 100 miles of towing for free. So THEY decided, not me--I wasn't capable of making any decisions at the time-- to tow my car to the concert on one of their triple A accounts! The driver thought we were nuts but he did it nonetheless. By the time we arrived at Hospitality Point where the concert was it was 7:40 or so. There was absolutely no parking within a mile of the concert. I was so frantic...I told the towing guy to just dump my car anywhere. He did...like 2 miles from where the concert was. He was nice enough to drive us to where the concert was though :) To BE continued.... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 02:10:16 -0400 (EDT) From: HRENB@aol.com Subject: 9/20 common grounds Hello all, I know there have been many reviews/ setlists so ill try to be brief (yeah right). First of all, the "Patti Smith' song was called Dancing Barefoot. You EDA's should get out there and expand your musical horizons by checking out her stuff, also Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman, Ella Fitzgerald and other Jewel influences. (I assume it was Jewels idea to play Billie Holliday over the p.a. between Steve's set and hers ) The show was pretty good, 9.6 I'd say. Her cold showed a little but she gave a great effort. The jerk on stage during the encore sucked, but security was generally okay. I ended up scalping tickets. I bought 2 in the 10th row center for 85 bucks then sold one for 35, so i ended up paying 50 (way more than i can afford, but oh well). I moved up to row 3 for the encore, and got about 5 pictures from 10 feet away at the end, but it was with a cheap kodak one timer that i had crotched in. If any turn out good, ill make a post and tell you about getting copies. Or will send them to Adam? or whoever wants some common grounds photos for their website. I'm soo pissed i didnt bring my recorder, but i just forgot and plus had no idea iwould get lucky enough to sit so close. the sound was perfect! someone out there's gotta have a bootleg! fess up! pls email me if you do and we can trade or whatever. After the show, i waited around but no luck. did meet steve poltz however and got a photo of him, he was pretty cool talking with fans outside the fence. How do you get backstage passes anyways? (naive me) I went to java joes before but didnt recognize anyone. i had emailed a few people about meeting there or something but no one really wrote back. i felt kinda dumb by myself, so i had a water, asked around if anyone had any extra tickets and left. i did meet a cool couple from pasadena who gave me directions, and another guy and girl towards the back of the seats after the show. forgot all names- im bad with those, sorry :). and then left. maybe theres a way to make it less awkward for meeting people. Anyways, very cool show, cool outdoor venue, (a bit chilly)-hope a lot of you were fortunate to check it out. Peace to all, lone wolf p.s. (those who weren't there) -she wore a black silk shirt and suit the whole show and a white cowboy hat for half of it- looked smashing ("by the dashbord light") :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 05:08:32 -0400 (EDT) From: EDAngel1@aol.com Subject: San Diego Concert and my crisis (Part 3) The concert was just amazing:) That is all I have to say. I was just soooo grateful that I made it there that night. I seriously didn't think I would ever get there that night. We got to our seats just in time to see Steve Poltz perform 3 songs or so. During intermission I found Kris Kane and got to meet Larry briefly. I also ran into Josh and Sonia and I think they thought I was nuts. I just kept on saying that my car broke down over and over. Hehe, thank you two for putting up with me that night. I'm not usually that emotionally unstable ;) I will no go into details about the concert since I'm sure someone else already did it who actually can "remember" the concert. :) After the concert I met up with Josh and Sonia at over by the porter potties. Please don't ask us why we picked that spot to meet. :P We briefly discussed what I was planning to do with me car. As I was leaving that area a young lady walked by us and proceeded to approach one of the porter potties. I was so dazed that I wasn't paying attention at all. One of my friend, whom I dragged to Java Joes once, said "hey, that's the girl we saw perform at Java Joes". I thought she was just pulling my leg. When I turned around all I could see was the back of that young lady's head. For some deranged reason just as she was openning the door of the "restroom" I yelled "Elizabeth!" and she turned around. It was indeed Elizabeth Hummel. She looked so shocked. I was even more shocked so all I did was smile and wave and she did the same. Don't worry guys...I had on a jacket by that time so no one could see my EDA shirt. Hehe, so I didn't embarress you guys. ;) Ahh,, what was I thinking? So then we had to hike 2 miles back to my car where my other friend used her triple A account to tow my car back to Los Angeles where her house is. So all three of us, plus the tow guy, had to sit in that little tow truck all cramped up for 2 hours. My friend had 100 miles of free towing and the distance turned out to be 113 miles so I only had to pay $52. :) My car is still in Los Angeles now where it is temporarily disabled until I can find someone to fix it. So how many of you actually got this far reading my senseless ramble? My point was just to tell those whom were wondering what happened to me that I am safe and sound back in my apartment again even though I still haven't fixed my car yet. :) I also wanted to let those EDAs whom I talked to that night to know that I'm usually not that nuts. ;) I am just so grateful that I made it to the concert. :) I seriously was beginning to lose hope. I just wanted to let you guys know that even when times are tough you just have to keep faith and try to overcome your hardship. hehe, of course I had my friends to help me overcome my hardship ;). Ok, I will now save you guys from more of my senseless rambling. ;) Take care my angels-- Mary wannabe angel ;) "In the end only kindness matters" ~Jewel Kilcher ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 05:08:30 -0400 (EDT) From: EDAngel1@aol.com Subject: San Diego Concert and my crisis! Long Post (part 1) Fellow EDAs, First off I would like to thank Josh and Sonia for being so kind and patient with me that night of the concert. I would also like to thank Gerrit for "attempting" to calm me down. And I would like to apologize to Lora for being such a nervous wreck that day when I called Java Joes. I had just had a very bad day that Saturday morning. I had just gotten into another arguement with my father over some ongoing issues. I felt really depressed that day but I just kept telling myself that everything would be all right. The thought of going to the Jewel concert that night is what kept me going. As I was driving around 75mph in the fast lane on the freeway with two of my friends my car suddenly stopped in the middle of the freeway. It just stopped excellerating up the hill. (It turned out that my timing belt broke). We all thought we were going to die! I had to swerve all the way across the freeway into the right hand side where you park when you are having an "emergency". As I got into the second from the last lane my car completely stopped--it was slowly decelerating. My two friends jumped out of the car in the middle of the "5" freeway in san diego and started pushing my car while I steered. To our prayers this other guy jumped out of his car and started to help push me up the hill. When we finally got to a local gas station I asked the cashier on duty if he could help me and he was as unhelpful as one could be. By this time it was 6:30 and the concert started at 7:30. I had no idea what town I was in and I was convinced that I was never going to see Jewel that night. The cashier just kept saying "man, she really wants to go to that concert huh?". He didn't know how much the concert meant to me. I had been looking forward to it all week. The thought of going to the concert that night is literally what got me through the day. I was just wondering if anyone knows when this was, and why she lived on a base...since her mom and dad were divorced and her dad was never in any service anyway. Has anyone ever asked this before? I checked the FAQ and it has nothing about this. I didn't know this until last night when a friend of mine told me she had announced that at a recent show.
