If there is no such thing, could someone direct me to some regular guitar tabs? I found one site with some, but I have a Mac, and it couldn't read the file they were on. =) Anyway, do any of you play this instrument? I'm having trouble learning, and would like tips on playing a stringed instrument. Consequently, if any of you fellow angels tried to send me a message on T= hursday or earlier today, please try again, as that mail has been permanently los= t. The following is the real point of this note. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------= - ------ In keeping with the increasing interest Canadian female artists - such as= Tara McLean and Dayna Manning - are generating among EDA's, I thought I'd make= you aware of the "Scrappy Bitch" tour currently underway. The tour is composed of three Vancouver-based women, including Oh Susanna= , an artist I've spoken to many EDA's about. I saw this woman in May, and was= more impressed by her live performance than any =91unknown=92 singer I=92ve se= en since I first saw Jewel a couple of years ago. Dark lyrics, but a very charismati= c performer. And, she=92s a very nice, approachable, extremely bright and= articulate woman as well. She sings in a style reminiscent of 1930's dus= tbowl folk and Appalachian ballads, a bit like a better known American singer Gillian Welch. The other two performers on the tour are Kinnie Starr and Veda Hille. Ki= nnie was one of the opening artists during the first week of the Lilith Tour, = and is a more avant garde performer. She integrates spoken word performance a= nd elements as diverse as hip hop into her music. Veda is the headlining ac= t of the tour, and is a wonderful composer and singer with several cd's to her= credit. The tour started last week and plays almost exclusively in Canada, but th= ere are two stops in the U.S. The Mercury Lounge in New York on Sept. 29, an= d the-familiar-to-many-of-you Iron Horse in Northhampton on Sept. 30. I'm sure these shows will be very worthwhile experiences. I encourage any= one who has the opportunity to catch this tour to do so, and if you do, pleas= e say hello to Oh Susanna from me if you get the chance. Following is the schedule for the remainder of the tour. Have a good evening, angels. I did not make ASYO this year. I was soooo disappointed! It pissed me off when I called the coordinator to ask him what I had done so bad that I didn't make it this year. He read my evaluation sheet to me and it said that I was playing my solo too fast. I was WHAT!!!! The recording of my solo was so much faster than what I can play. Auggghhhh! So so sad! In fact I was pretty much in tears all day today. "It's a sad sad world..."-Fiona. On the bright side, this bump, I believe, only made my determination to make everything else this year. I will show them all! Yeah! In fact, I'm going to audition again next year and play so well that they will feel dumb for not accepting me this year. But I have to admit, it is pretty embarrassing to make ASYO one year and not the next. Oh well... I would like to thank all you guys for wishing me a good audition. To tell you the truth, I didn't think my audition was that bad. I figured a lot of people probably wouldn't see it. So here goes: I got an E-mail from D'Addario (in case you don't know, D'Addario makes guitar strings) a couple of days ago saying that they "would happy" to send me a poster of Jewel. So I gave them my address and they didn't ask for ANY money at all. I mean, I knew it was free, but I thought I would at least have to pay for shipping. I'm thinking that the poster might just be a larger version of the ad for D'Addario strings w/ Jewel in a purple (Or is it pink? I dunno, I'm colorblind. Seriously, I am.) velvet shirt playing the guitar. When I get the poster, I'll let ya'll know about size, what it looks like, etc. I think D'Addario's address is: www.daddario.com But I'm not sure, so don't quote me. Ryan P.S.- I stopped w/ the @ instead of an "a". I kept forgetting to make it an "@" instead of an "a". So, if you get me confuse w/ the other Ryan, too bad. I'll think of a quote or something, so it'll make it easier. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #761 ***************************
