One of the most special benefits of being an EDA, besides getting to meet other EDAs and share Jewel info and inspirations, is the chance to be introduced to other wonderful artists. Elizabeth Hummel and Cindy Lee Berryhill are two brilliant, and individual, musicians and performers. Together they are an awesome double-bill. The LRT at Tom and Nancy's is going to be the place to be in North America, make that the planet, this Sunday. And if you can't make it for any reason (like me) do anything you can to get them to come to your town. Things'll never be the same again. (Sorta like when the Music Man decided to stay, and Marian the Librarian... ok, another day for that story.) The famous Toledo EDA Liz has set up a great Elizabeth Hummel web-page, "The Sky's the Limit" at http://members.aol.com/EHummelSD/home.html and Elizabeth can be reached by e-mail at EHummelSD@aol.com Cindy Lee Berryhill now has a cool discussion board at http://www.mwpsoft.com/msg/index.cgi and a "Tearaway" page web-site at http://www.mwpsoft.com/clb/ Cindy Lee even joins in the discussion when she's not touring. I think any Jewel fan will appreciate the talent and heart of these artists -- and, the most amazing of wonders, you can experience them in your living room. That's my astonished view for the night. Make the LRT a must-be event in your life. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Sep 1997 01:35:51 -0700 From: Reynolds Subject: NJC: CLB & JEH Springfield review Well, CLB and JEH actually came to my college. It was probably the coolest thing that has ever happened at Lincoln Land Community College. This was the first time I heard either of them live. Their music was beautiful, and I enjoyed the concert very much. The down side was the rude audience. A lot of the people there were just eating lunch, and didn't pay any attention to the music. I imagine it was pretty frustrating for CLB and JEH, but there were at least some people in the audience that were really into it. Springfield doesn't really hear about new artists, so I may have been the only person living here that has heard of them. At least now they have a few more fans in Springfield. Highlights for me were CLB playing a vigorous renditon of Jane & John at my request, and talking with Joy, Cindy, and Bob who is the first EDA I have ever met in person. Maybe next time I see them it will be with a whole group of EDA's. Bitch Faggot The threatening stuff in "Pieces of You" ("Do you want to kick in his brains?") The threatening stuff in "Daddy" ("I'm gonna use your tongue as a stamp") The poems ("I have firm breasts" or "Three men in the front seat swapping penis sizes") I don't know if those are exact quotes, but you get the point. Although Jewel uses this stuff for poetry, I guess BMG does not recognize that. I never thought any of her material was explicit (I mean, even some of her more shocking songs -- like GOD'S GIFT TO WOMEN -- have a very strong point to make). Rap music should only dawn this symbol as I am repulsed to hear some of the nonsense words they use (where they just repeat curse words and threats without any music whatsoever). I did buy all this to make money but would like to know if any one has angel food they would like to trade? Again i may or may not get the records! e-mail me to see if i did, i should know by thurs. sept 17. last thing, my friend saw in a mag. a listing for jewels autograph! i was really about buying one ($90) if you have any comments on this please e-mail me. oh one more thing..... when and on what channel do you guys meet on irc? Anyways, this being my first post to this list, I just have a few comments :) 1. I ordered that POY Vinyl from CDNow a couple weeks ago when it said it was being backordered, and about 3 days ago I got an e-mail saying it has arrived and was shipped and should arrive in 4-6 days!! So if you can't find it locally it wouldn't hurt to go to http://www.cdnow.com/ and order it there. You can pay by check if you don't have a CC (Like me :) ) or money order too I think. But I think is't only for US and maybe Canada residents. 2. I just got this cool poster of Jewel from the local used CD store here in Newark, DE ( any Delaware EDAs out there? ) anyways, she is wearing a blue dress and it just says 'Jewel' on the bottom. It had an address at the bottom, but I don't have it here right now. 3. I love hearing about this angelfood stuff...if only I had known about Jewel and this mailing list in the *beginning* of the summer, so I could find time to try and get some :) and 4. All these comparions/look-a-likes/other band stuff is really annoying. I had to get an e-mail address at usa.net solely for this mailing list because of the volume ( it has a POP3 server, so you can use Eudora or whatever to d/l them like mornal mail :) . Lets just leave madonna and all this other stuff alone, then maybe I can get around to reading the good stuff :) Also, if there are any Delaware EDAs, specially any going to the University of Delaware (like me) e-mail me! you can e-mail me at this address (oaklnad@usa.net) or at oaklnad@udel.edu (yeah, I *did* mess up my e-mail address) Whew, that's all I think :) Doug - A busy, procrastinating, & poorly paid angel :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Sep 1997 07:42:16 -0400 (EDT) From: KMilesAway@aol.com Subject: Coincidence? You know the movie that the lovely Miss Kilcher wrote Emily for as a favor to S.P.(I don't even remember seeing her name in the credits at the end, I could of missed it). Anyway, to get to the point...THEE one and only David Baerwald is in the movie as an actor and contributed a song to the sountrack(something about a cowboy). I'd imagine this is the artist who opened for Jewel on her latest tour. HBO will be reairing The Crossing Guard this friday night/saturday morning in case you want to see it for yourself. Jewel lives in a small world! I hope some of you find this info interesting! To answer the question about the stereo, the Loudness button adds a fuller sound, meaning it adds more bass and a little more highs, It's like a bass boost button (say that fast five times). The tape you said, Maxell Type II isn't the highest tape you can get, but for what you're doing, it is a good choice. There are Chrome tapes, Metal, Ferrachrome also, if your tape player can handle the Ferrachrome. Most tape decks don't have that button. You can use Metal tapes in tape decks as long as you have the CrO2 button (chrome "type II). As for the SEA button, I forgot what that was for. I think it just widen s the sound spectrum, if that makes sense, meaning that it makes the music seem more spread out in the room. For the guitars, I agree with the person saying that starting on the acoustic is better. This I believe is b/c on acoustic, its harder to cover up mistakes and you have to sound good, so when you finally do play the electric, you will sound incredible, if your good on the acoustic. For the person who said that pressing the strings down was hard to do, this is b/c the action (the distance of the strings from the fretboard) are too high for their comfort. You can correct this by filing down the bridge and nut which is the bone or plastic piece at the neck. I usually use sandpaper and be sure to sand it on a flat surface to keep it even. Be advised that you may need to adjust the truss rod with an allen rench, but the best bet is to take it to a music shop to have this done if you don't know what you're doing. You could screw up the intonation if you don't. It won't ruin the guitar if the intonation is out of whack, but the strings won't stay in tune and it will be very difficult to tune the guitar. When first starting out on guitar, a cheap one is the way to go. You can always upgrade by adding a bone nut and saddle, pickups etc. I would go for a solid top b/c as the guitar ages, it becomes warmer sounding. Its all a matter of preference. Sorry for all who aren't interested in this. I just wanted to help fellow guitarists and the person with the stereo questions. Also, for those in Columbus, Ohio, me, another guitarist and a great female vocalist will be playing BW3's North on Woordruff on campus Wed Sept 17th at 11pm for an hour. We will be doing Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Melissa Etheridge, etc. if you're interested. I would like to meet some EDA's. Bye.
