I, too, like Madonna. Just because she came out in the 80's doesn't mean she's bad now. Her music videos may not be as (ahem) appropriate as Jewel's but her music is still very good. I mean, I still like a bunch of her songs from the 80's and early 90's. Jewel is a wonderful performer, but Madonna is just as good. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Sep 1997 21:28:05 -0700 From: sp96@juno.com (Sarah Tong) Subject: Wish me luck! I was just wanting some advice from you guitar players out there. I want to learn to play the guitar as many of you do and was wondering what the best method of learning is. I want to teach myself since there is no one around here that knows how. Are books or videos or what the best way to learn? And all I have is a plain non-acoustic 6 string guitar. Can I learn just as well on that? Or do I need an acoustic one? Help me out here guys!! They were at a couple of different websites and I was just wondering if these albums were put out by "our" Jewel. That may sound like a stupid question, but there are a lot of artist out there that have the word jewel in them some where. Well, not a lot, but more than I thought. Bartholomew) Subject: LOWELL-apalooza-thon 2:10 two hours and ten minutes. yes, jewel performed for two hours and ten minutes! [i'm not trying to rub this in, just letting you all know what a cool performance this was] [heck], the first 50 minutes was solo. just jewel and her guitar (well, that's what solo is, anyway...). in attendance: the ever present road trippin' buddy of mine (albert). the berb children (self proclaimed "cool kids"). cornflake girl (rachel) from the burping town. late, but ticket bearing, cleophile (chris moynihan). the enigmatic and overly literal "i'll beat yer ass with a 2x4," dennis harris. and of course, the bellowing (nice pick) mr.bb oh, me too, bill b (*no* nickname). for those not interested in my review, here's the setlist up front (from mr.bb himself, who writes well in the dark): ***solo acoustic*** don't studies in love #12 poy (w/model convention dialogue) little sister everything breaks ("if you're not mr.bb, i don't want to hear a peep." -miss kilcher..."EVERYTHING BREAKS!" -mr.bb "awesome." -me) stranger enter from the east near you always (w/fantastic photo ops...and me w/o a camera) daddy (w/cosby stuff) nicotine love racecar driver sometimes it be that way ("i'm not bitter." -jk) i'm sensitive deep water (the best i've heard) ***enter band*** satellite been down so long who will save your soul love me just leave me alone morning song down dancing barefoot passing time (solo, if i remember right) carnivore you were meant for me (preceded by the drug bust story!!!) foolish games (no comment) ***encore*** angel standing by (di/mother t. dedication) amen chime bells two hours...ten minutes...amazing. personal comments: nice cowboy hat. black pantalones/shirt. people did too much yelling and screaming early, so during "studies," she stopped and told them to shut up. she mentioned that she tries to figure out what they're saying as opposed to the words of the song, and she messes up. from then on, she got a bit more respect. the poy story was the same as muchmusic's i&i. a little more involved and comical. jewel actually asked if mr.bb was there and asked if he had a request. people hollered, so she basically said "knock it off, so i can hear him." sure enough, "EVERYTHING BREAKS!" could be heard by the unmistakeable, fluid, and crystal clear voice we all know is his. ;) thanks, great choice. without a doubt, the best song performance of the night. for me, i thought "near you always" was the best version i've ever heard of this song. i love it. always will. racecar driver was missed at harborlights, so i'm glad she has added it to the set. deep water was also very moving for me. easily approaching the top of my fav's list. the band was on, and entertaining. especially during the introductions at the end of the show. the bass player was hamming it up with jewel's hat...got a laugh and a half from an appreciative aud audience. some of the songs seemed a bit overpowering and drowned out jewel's vocal, but still a good showing. "lmjlma" was rockin' as usual. jeez, it's so cool. actually glad that she didn't use the electric for this song. jewel spent about four minutes telling the drug bust story before ywmfm. awesome. i wish steve was there to help tell it, or do the song with her. oh well, she got the aud audience to chip in on the last chorus. good, but not as spontaneous at harborlights. foolish games was lackluster, but good none the less. the encores were great, but the damn aud audience started in with their talking and screaming during the song. it was sad. to see jewel bearing such fabulous renditions of immaculate songs, and to have people gabbing like that...so sad. oh well. folks actually got up and boogied during chime bells. hee hee. great night. dinner before the show gave me more sense of family than i've felt at any of the previous eda gatherings. maybe because i've been around these particular folks more than any others, it just seems like anything goes, and nobody holds themselves higher than who they're talking to. a fantastic bunch of people, friends. but be careful what you say to that harris fellow...he's a bit on the literal side when taking instructions. heck, i'm still limping from all those pennies weighing down one side of my pelvis. and my ass hurts from sitting on my wallet (no other reason, dennis). thanks to all angels for the great night, and to jewel (who is also an angel) for anothe stirring performance not soon to be forgotten. love you all, bill b ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Sep 1997 19:34:59 PDT From: "*soul.* Amy" Subject: hi! Sorry, David...I'm not advance at computer stuff, even if it's simple. Can you download it yourself? CLUELESS? Oh, you see...in the movie the stairwell carpet was black right? In the illegal copy it was red. When Christian and Cher were at the party, Tai was wearing a CHECKED flannel shirt. And also in the illegal one, we didn't get to see Josh dance. or see the band guys! There's more, but at least the stories are the same! Oh yeah! In the part where Christian and Cher walk by the swiimming pool, we didn't see the first statue. ACK! Did you know it's the blackout season, AGAIN? The electric machine just HAS to break every year! I don't know if the lights are going to go off soon, so I'll end this! BYE! ELECTRIC ANGELS Highlights: seeing Jewel enjoying herself Jewel's cowboy hat the crowd behaving after Jewel politely asked them to be quiet that incredible acoustic set (too many songs to remember) the band the electric guitar Jewel's storytelling (e.g. the fashion video awards, the drugbust, the old ladies in the bathroom, the racist father.....)
