Hi all, Here is my recap from the Holly McNarland show.. I got into the city at about 4pm est. and got into the Tower records shortly there after... i waited in line for a short while to get in and then was standing right infront of the stage... and stood.. and stood.. well lets just say they took their sweet time getting ready :-) But finally Holly walks on stage with her band!!!! She had a cold and still played on.. and impressively i might add! She played 6 songs. (Stormy, Box, UFO, Numb, Water, Elmo) and she was right on on all of them.. she totally rocked the place *and* she was sick.. totally amazing! After the show the band and Holly put on an autograph session and i got mine :-) And told her of all the people that are interested in her music, she says Hi to all :-) well that's all from me.. sorry for the cross posting and non Jewel/Tara content, but i know some of yous wanted to hear about up and coming artists :-) And she definately is one of them... take care all.. - -Gian- Northern Sounds: Check out the local Toronto musical talent here! I would just like to say that alot of people don't want to harassed constantly about making tapes for people. Some people always ask if people were at the shows too and if someone recorded them. If you want angelfood. Get to know people...make friends with people on the list. That's how one acquired tapes. You can't just jump on as a newbie (no offense to them) and start demanding it. There was already a letter from the list runner asking for people not to jam up the list with requests for tapes. Jump into a chat room. Meet people. More then likely they will be willing to make tapes for you. Most of the tapers don't know people and don't want to randomly hand out tapes to people. Who knows where they go then. I am a fairly new member of this list and I really thought I would never be adding a post to it. However, after reading alot of the reviews of recent concerts, I really wanted to express my opinion on the subject of "screaming crowds".Almost every review I've read has said Jewel was upset with excess noise and told concert go-ers to be quiet. Also she was upset with the lack of respect given to her opening act. Well, I attended her Cleveland show on 9-7-97 and the crowd was told to "shhhh!". Her opening act was never introduced. Some man just walked out on stage and started singing. He did get applause and some screams, which I feel was respectful, considering know one really new who he was. Now,in my opinion(and please remember it's just my opinion) when you pay too much money for really bad seats, add in parking, food and drink, shirts, and lets not forget babysitters; You want a memorable night! Once you're at the show you realize you're about 300 miles from the stage. You assume it's Jewel. It sounds like her and those are her songs. I somehow like to be heard. So when she sings a song I like or a part of a song I like, I scream wildly! Not to be disrespectful, but to BE respectful. It should be expected, especially at larger venues. If you're like me you work everyday at a job you hate, for little money and little appreciation. You spend your money on a show by a performer you really like and expect to be entertained, not told to "Shhhh!" Please don't get me wrong, I do LOVE her music(or I wouldn't have joined this list) and with the way she been touring she is probably exhausted and with little patience left. Maybe her next tour she won't overdue it, so she can get back in touch with her fans. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Sep 1997 23:33:41 -0400 From: HALFSTEP@webtv.net (Eric Reichenbach) Subject: HELP: Need one ticket for Siena I am hoping that someone has an extra ticket. I read his post a few nights ago about Dayna Manning being at a bookstore in MD and decided to try and go. I posted to the list a request for a ride and Paul Tuss came to the rescue :) That's what I love about EDA's, they'll do whatever they can to help. So Paul arrived slightly late to pick Chris Phillips and I up at Chris's school. We rushed to the store, ran in and found this...little girl with a guitar. I am not kidding you, she looked like somebody that would be sitting next to me in class. She was dressed in jeans, a sweater, and had a cute fuzzy hat on. She smiled at us as we entered. There weren't many people there, less than 15. We grabbed seats and turned our attention to Dayna and Kevin, her bassist. She opened her mouth and...WOW!!!! Beautiful! Her youth was completely forgotten as she belted out these amazing lyrics. In between songs, she giggled with Kevin and shyly commented at our growing size, about 20 at this point. For those of you that don't have her album, trust your EDA recommendations and buy it. I was very unfamiliar with her material, so I cannot provide a setlist. She played for about 30 mins. After the show she had posters to give away and she was signing autographs. We waited out turn in line and talked to her for a bit while she signed our albums. I talked to her about how hard it was to be away from home, I'm a college freshman and she's busy touring. She asked how we found out about the show and here's how our conversation went. me- "we're on the Jewel e-mail list and somebody posted about it" dayna(with a big smile)-"oh, the Everyday Angels!" me-"yeah!" Dayna- "I'll bet somebody from Boston told you about it" me-"yeah, albert wang posted the date" Dayna-"albert! you know albert! tell him i said hi!" me- "ok, thanks!" Then we moved on to let others chat with her. We signed up for Dayna's mailing list and talked with Stacy from nettwork about the EDA's. Guys, everybody knows about us, it's odd, but really cool! Paul and I purchased our albums and we went outside. We ran into Stacy again and she gave us the left over posters and talked for quite a bit. She mentioned how much Albert's and other EDA's giving out Tara's promo cassetes has helped get her name out. We really do have a lot of respect and crediability from people in the industry. We then said our goodbyes to Kevin and Stacy and headed back. Paul drove us back to my school and he drove off into the sunset. I want to once again thank Albert for letting us know of this artist and the show. And I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Paul for driving me and Chris to the show, he was an angel to drive us angels in need of a ride :) And I want to tell you all to check out DAYNA MANNING!!!!!!!
