I consider myself to be a Wondie (but I don't live in a Wonderland) (Erasure mailing list reference), a Destinian (but I don't have any interest in Destiny) (Celine Dion mailing list reference), I rarely do the Conga (yet I'm on the Conga (Gloria Estefan) internet mailing list..) and I really *despise* the colour Peach, (but I'm on the Peach mailing list..) My point, of course, being, that EDA is simply a name - yes! That's all it is. It's also partly a philosophy which people seem to understand, but would you *honestly* prefer it if the list was called "The Jewel Mailing List" and we were all "Jewel Fans"? Whereas EDA is an "in" reference (as are all the others I just quoted above) and gives you something to identify with. Besides, it's quicker to type "EDA" than "Jewel Fan"... Well....they pretty much bashed the Lilith fair, and Jewel along with it. They say "I suppose we should all be thankful that the Lilith Fair took place. It is nice to see so many women on the charts, *even if some are whiny coffeehouse wenches like Jewel*." Well, darn....I can only guess that the woman who wrote this was jealous. She goes on to say that the performers in Lilith Fair were too tame of women and that they would be better joining things like Lollapalooza than being on their own. I remind you, this was written by a woman. I guess she has no idea how hard it is to be a female singer/songwriter out there today and that Lilith was probably a breakthrough for equality in music for women. Oh, well....we're all entitled to our opinions. Sarah ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Sep 1997 15:04:43 -0400 (EDT) From: JewelEDA21@aol.com Subject: You're in Cleveland Today Tapes?! Sounds as though Jewel is really hitting her stride again. After reading that some of her concerts in this Papillon Tour were as short as 75 minutes, I was starting to wonder whether she was deriving much joy out of this endless touring. I know that shows should be examined for their quality, not quantity, and that Jewel's sheer professionalism will get her through most concerts with her reputation untarnished. Nevertheless, these last couple of shows seem to be indicative of a regalvanized Jewel, which portends great things. I was also delighted to see that she has reacquainted herself with Absence of Fear as part of her performance repertoire. If someone were to put a gun to my head (okay, nobody get any bright ideas...) and force me to pick my favourite Jewel song, over the last few months, Absence of Fear would have emerged as my choice on most days. I was scared that Stranger from the East was going to polish off Absence of Fear the way that Emily put an end to Jessica. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall Jewel playing Absence of Fear since Stranger made its debut during the Tiny Lights tour - until this week) But I'm scared no longer: in fact, I have an absence of fear.... And, I'm equally encouraged to hear that she's also brought Studies in Love #12 out of mothballs and added it to recent shows. It's another choice in my five favourite Jewel songs of all time (so far....) Hope everyone who catches her upcoming shows enjoys themselves immensely. Can't wait to hear all about them.
