I was in the local used CD store and I found 6 copies of the 2 CD Modern Rock Live that Jewel is on. I'm sorry to post this to the list, but its really awesome news, that many of us can take for granted. A friend of mine (his name is Brooke) just decided he would play around with a programming language known as Linux one day. Eventually, he learned a lot about Linux, all on his own. About a month ago, he was offered a job by NASA, starting out at $80,000 per year...THATS STARTING OUT!!!! Anyway...About the same time, he was offered a job by AllState (the insurance people), starting at anywhere between $65,000 and $90,000 per year....He accepted the job at AllState, and is making $70,000 per year now. He did this simply by investing some free time into learning this. He studied microbiology at the University of California - Irvine, and was beginning work on a doctorate degree when this Linux thing came about. I hope many of you will take this for granted. I recently saw a book at my public library about Linux, and it had a CD in it with Linux on it. I'm planning on picking it up, so I hope many of you will do the same. Here's a brief memo from Lenedra explaining it somewhat. Dear EDAs, After our recent announcement for the September 20th benefit concert in San Diego, several questions arose about Common Ground, the non-profit foundation we are currently in the process of creating. To clear up any confusion, I thought it helpful to provide an update on Common Ground and why this foundation is being established. As you all know, Jewel receives literally dozens of requests for charitable contributions every day. To assist us in prioritizing selection of charitable contributions we have set up a non profit organization. The foundation will receive, review and render decisions on all charitable contributions based on essential social and spiritual issues. Early in 1998 a press conference will be held to present Common Ground and its endorsees. -Lenedra BiBi also told me that an official announcement will be made at the show itself so stay tuned for further details. There is a show Friday night at Java Joes 9/19 that people are talking about going to. Saturday is Crazy Lora's Beach party at Ocean Beach. We can all meet there and either have a picnic or meet at some restaurant. After the concert people can follow us back to Lora's party or to our house and they can stay over since the next night is our Living Room Tour. Elizabeth Hummel, Cindy Lee Berryhill and perhaps Lisa Sanders. Angela from Camarillo in Ventura County plans to come and will have her guitar. Mark are you coming? If you are bring your mandolin. If anyone knows how to play the banjo I have one. No I don't play. I just found it at a thrift store and it was in such good shape and so inexpensive. Anybody know anything about 5 string banjos? Anyway if you plan to make our Living Room Tour please let us know. It is a $10 donation. Very worth it. I'll be making my famous Sangria. Okay call for directions or email me.
