I am thinking of a song from oh maybe a little less than a year ago. The lyrics were posted to the list but I am almost poitive that Jewel has only played it maybe once or twice live and I sure have never heard it. All I remember is being heavily impressed by the lyrics but as of right now the only lyrics I can remember were ones at the end of the song about "our children mending what we have torn". Can anybody enlighten me as to what the name of this song is. IT'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks. And very well said :) Here it is. There are greater things in life than wondering wether or not we should be thanked by Jewel. People in the world are starving, some are being beaten, and some are being born, <~~~to use a cheesy quote :).... And honestly... if you guys want a right to complain, then get off your butts and do what Jewel has asked us to do so many times in her songs. To just love for the sake of loving. To help someone. Lend your heart out. I proclaim from this second on, that this thread is silly. I understand, that by responding, I am adding to the silliness. But... uh... QUITE WORRYING ABOUT IT!!! okay??? Be grateful for the little things. Be grateful for the fact that Jewel was put on this earth to make music for all to hear. Be grateful your alive!!!!!!!!!!!! Another, truly, incredible show by Jewel!!! The set-list was incredible, as you will see in a moment. The show lasted about an hour and forty five minutes. There where a few key moments during the show that are worth mentioning. I'll post them after the set-list. set list-9/8 Penn State, rec hall Smart In A Stupid Way (during David Baerwald's set) Don't 1000 Miles Away Sometime's It Be That Way (alot slower than normal) Everything Breaks Sometime (I'm still in shock! I couldn't believe it!) Cold Song Little Sister Near You Always Daddy (with shaddy character/cosby show verse) Nicotine Love (yay!) Race Car Driver (yippie!) *band enters* Satellite ("here's a song you never heard before"...hehe, ok Jewel) Been Down So Long Who Will Save Your Soul Love Me Just Leave Me Alone Down Dancing Barefoot Morning Song You're In Cleaveland Today (yay!) Carnivore You Were Meant For Me You Were Meant For Me Rocked Out Version (WOOO HOOO!!!!) Foolish Games *exit Jewel and Band* *Encore-enter Jewel* Just Passing Time Angel Standing By (shhhh! dedicated to Princess Diana & Mother Theresa) Amen *exit Jewel* *Encore #2-enter Jewel again* Chime Bells ("you were a great audience, so, I guess I should yodel for you." Notable comments about the show: Suprisingly the crowd was great. I had my doubts, with it being a college campus and all. The crowd was even respectfull towards David Baerwald, which was nice to see. Jewel wore her cowboy hat. Jewel commented how this was one of the nicer audiences of the tour. Crowd pleasers where: Cold Song, Race Car Driver, YWMFMrov, Foolish Games, Chime Bells She said that Nicotine Love was written about the same time as Painters and that they are Yin & Yang for each other. She stretched out the ending while humming along with the guitar lines...that was nice! Been Down So Long, Love Me Just Leave Me Alone, and Down keep getting better and better...I think the band are the tightest during these songs. During YWMFM Jewel sang "got my maple syrup from Vermont 'cause I like the real thing, everything but you" The band really messed up YWMFM, somehow they got really off and Jewel just cracked up and was looking at each of them while laughing. during YWMFMrov Jewel screwed up the words and sang "la la, fucking words" and also "hearts are broken every god damn day". The crowd roared at both of these lines. Foolish Games, I felt was a little weaker than the last time I saw it in NJ 8/30. Don't get me wrong it was still great. Jewel surprised the rec hall staff by coming back out to sing Chime Bells...they had just started to turn the lights on, when she came back out, they turned them off again. I waited outside, with a small crowd, by the buses, hoping to meet her. But after waiting almost 2 hours she came out waved and got on the bus. Craig Young(the bass player) did walk around and talk with us, which was cool! It was nice meeting you, Shea(??), Bridget, Seth! This was definitely a memorable night! Alan(MrBB) "Ain't No Lookin Back" by Jewel Kilcher (September 1996) All of your ghosts Litter the horizon Glittering carcasses I guess that makes twice then Just like your daisies And all of your buffallo You dont worry The children will mend what you tore You dress yourself in sharkbites You kill yourself in spoonfuls You damn all the beehives You make love to potholes Your attention is a junkie It has a wandering vien And all of your thoughtlessness Is dried up rain Aint no lookin back, now---Is there kid? You always look to the west You throw caution to the wind You're on a one way track But you cant buy caution back---Can you kid? You killed a man Because you made him borrow One suicide is made up Of ten thousand tiny sorrows America's great Its the land of the free We're so independant That we forgot how to breathe Aint no lookin back, now---Is there kid? You always look to the west You throw caution to the wind You're on a one way track But you cant buy caution back---Can you kid? Show me one hero Who ain't afraid of fear Show me one adult That knows how to hear "We are the future" At least thats what you said I wanna know: Who's the hope of today? There's no lookin back now for you---Is there kid? I agree that Jewel's a great singer and musician, and she's better than I could ever hope to be. She's got a great scope on some parts of life, and the way she puts things in her songs really touch me. Still, Jewel is human, just like the rest of us. She has her faults. She has her weaknesses. She makes mistakes, just like the rest of us. I don't think we have the right to criticize her and tell her what she should be doing, and I also don't think that we should follow her every move and live our lives based on what she does. Jewel's a great singer, but she didn't ask us all to idolize her. Kacy Crowley was described as "one to watch" from this new line of female artists becoming accepted in the music business (this particular quote comes from the article dedicated to The Lilith Fair). So, I was wondering if anyone has ever heard her, or her style, because I haven't, but I saw that she had a new release coming out about two weeks ago. I've heard several broadcasts of Jewel concerts on the internet, and in every one, there weren't people yelling sporadically while she was in the middle of talking, or screaming mindlessly during the quiet section of a song. If you listen to / watch Jewel on the VMA's or on Letterman (where she also told the crowd to shut up, and dave laughed) anyways, the crowd was being very rude while she was in the middle of talking. I'd probably do the same thing and tell the people to shut up, and I'm not even famous. I just find it really distracting and wouldn't be able to think about what I was saying.
