Showtime is 8pm, repeating at midnight and then the following morning at 8:30am, all times EDT. Unlike some of MuchMusic's specials, this one WILL be broadcast on MuchMusic's U.S. feed as well as in Canada, so it will available on DirecTV's DSS system and any U.S. cable systems that carry the channel. I have to echo Gian's opinion about Sarah Slean. She is an absolutely fabulous up-and-coming artist in the Toronto area, who I have come to like as much as Jewel and Tara. She has a song on her 6-track indie cassette, ironically called 'Angel', that possibly ranks as my favorite since WWWSYS 2 and a half years ago. I put the damn thing on repeat and can't stop playing it! 20-yr-old Sarah is still unsigned, but not for long I suspect. She currently plays little cafes in Toronto for crowds of a dozen or so people, passing the hat and selling her little indie cassette (no CD yet) to make a few bucks. Watch for the name, she'll definitely be going places! Style-wise, a cross between Sarah McLachlin and Tori Amos, although she apparently doesn't care for the Tori comparisons. Anyway, add to this Emm Gryner, who is also very good, and this will be a show worth making he trip for! I agree with this following statement. When a few audience members are screaming, trying to get your attention while performing a song, it has to get irritating. If you think Jewel is incapable of getting irritated, then I really don't know what to tell you. To me, Jewel looks tired and drained. I think Jewel probably wanted to thank her fans at the VMA, but she got distracted by the screaming fans which needed to hush up. Those people who kept screaming were representing a part of the Jewel fan base at the awards, so the tell them (in the politest way any human can) to "shut up", then turn around and thank them would be sort of odd. (The following comment is a sarcastic one...) I think that there's a possibility that Jewel may not be asked to perform at the MTV's VMA for quite some time because she REALLY made the other performers look bad (umm, maybe except for The Wallflowers w/ "The Boss!" and Beck). First, personally, I felt snobbed by Jewel when she didn't mentioned the EDAs or thanking her fans. Althought it is the artist's talents that makes their music beautiful and touching, but it is the fans who help it get (a lot of ) recognition. It is the fans themselves who buys the record, goes to concerts, watch the videoes, and request their music on the radio/MTV. Does anyone know how exactly people get nominated/win at award shows ( like VMA, Grammy's, Emmy's, Oscar and People Choice Award ). Its how the movie, music, video gets attention. If the fans doesn't buy their album, do you think there'll be a concert? No! If the fans doesn't request the video, do you think they would be nominated for such an award? No! I can go on and on but I think you get the point. Which is, the fans are the ones responsible in making or breaking the artist career. Therefore, I think we should always be recognized for the things we've done as fans. Second, I don't think Jewel getting to be conceited or fame is getting to her head. Or whatever you are thinking. Plus, you shouldn't be thinking that way. We should always think positive about things we don't know or don't understand, keeping an open mind. There is also such a as TRUST. I mean we should trust that Jewel is humble enough to be a down-to-earth always. Her past really says a lot. If you went through hard times as she did, thats enough to keep people grounded. But just in case it doesn't, we are here to let her know. Does anyone remember Jewel way back to Jewelstock and to see her at Lilith? She used to tell stories after sing every songs or slightly tell something about the song she is about to play and that the venues she played in were smalll and intimate. Now, its bigger ampitheaters, more crowds and fans, lesser of story-telling and an occasional shut up. What really annoys me at LF is how people leave after hearing the three popular songs ( WWSYS, YWMFM, and FG ). What about those unrully guys ( jerks ) who keeps yelling to take her ( Jewel's ) clothes off etc. in the middle of the song. A lot of these things can irritate someone who is trying to concentrate and perform. Give her some slack if you hear Jewel say shut up. Mostly like she meant it to those who are bothering her and not her real fans that she appreciates a lot. Ms. Jewel Kilcher is very unique in a lot ways and she is very interesting that way. Ms Jewel Kilcher is so sweet and sensitive that her music affects us as they do. She is human after all and we are all bound to make a couple of mistakes in our lifetime. Thanx for listening, or in this case, reading this post. To some it is the music, to others it about the person (artist ). To the rest ( as well as me ) it always has been about the music and the person. Both intersects to bring beautiful music and lyrics. Take care! Now I am an EXTREMELY shy person and I know what it's like to get in front of a bunch of people (or even a small gathering of friends) and am trying to say something and someone blurts out a small comment or tries to interrupt. It can totally disrupt what you're thinking or what you are about to say. I can only imagine someone SCREAMING when I'm trying to say something. Have you noticed how quietly she talks? How she never seems to know how to respond when people are applauding her? I noticed this when she played Lilith Fair at Deer Creek Music Center in Noblesville, IN, the VMA, and last night's repeat of SNL. She may be confident in herself and her music, but she is NERVOUS when she's on that stage. I think that's one of the reasons she talks to the crowd in between songs. I'm not trying to make excuses for her, just offering a different viewpoint. I won't take up any more of your hard drive. :) WOOF!! BELIEVE IN DOG POWER!! She breathes, she thinks, and she feels. She has a her own thoughts that no one anywhere will ever know for sure. She has her own feelings that no one else will ever feel, and she lives the life she wanted. She simply IS and that's all she needs to be. The only person Jewel is ultimately accountable and responsible for is herself and she knows that. Over the past few days there has been a lot of speculation about Jewel being this or Jewel being that. It's been just that, speculation, and most of it utterly pointless at best. None of the people who have written possibly hurtful things know for sure what Jewel is thinking, know for sure who she is as a person or where she is going. Ask yourself if taking the slightest little thing so personally and without regard of the circumstance or any empathy for Jewel an intelligent thing to do? Jewel didn't mouth the words thank you to her fans- so what?? The show was caught in the midst of grief for the passing of Diana and Mother Theresa and any decent person would have been thinking about them and NOT themselves. Jewel DID just that, she thought of them and sang "Angel Standing By." Is it so hard to exercise some compassion and to think of others in this difficult time? Edgar Allen Poe wrote: "I cannot go where others have been I cannot see what others saw What I see I see alone." I have seen comments from individuals who sound so wrapped up in themselves that if mommy doesn't pat them on the head every single time she's in view they become offended. Jewel doesn't thank her parents every single moment of every single appearance, she doesn't thank the friends who grew up with her who have been such an intimate and supportive part of her life, and she doesn't thank us every time either. The concept here is that friends and loved ones KNOW that you're loved because you know who Jewel is. You don't need constant reinforcement because you have FAITH in Jewel. > Exactly! That is exactly what has been running through my mind. It > seems like we're always making excuses for Jewel. "Umm...she didn't > thank us. Bummer... Oh wait!! Neither did nobody else!! Ah ha!" Why do people hang so much on the shallow physical manifestations and completely ignore the context and the feelings of the situation? I may very well be alone in this view, but is it so hard to try to empathsize with Jewel and her thoughts given specific situations and contexts? Have we become so shallow that all we see are the movements and if we don't get what WE expect, we get all bent out of shape and take things as a personal affront? > it...she's just like the rest of them. shallow, conceited, and forgetful > of the people who have always been there and supported her....her angels, > her fans, her lovers... I couldn't disagree with Kristy more in her opinions. She's honest, but fortunately honesty has nothing to do with truth. The truth is we don't know what Jewel is thinking every hour of every day. And the truth is it sounds like a lot of people have simply given in to their own pessimism about the world and lost track of the world around them. Jewel can never be like the way she was in the early days. The mobs of people who want a piece of her have pretty much ensured that. When the world changes around you, you adapt. When you can't go into stores unmolested anymore, it does affect the way you live and go about doing things, but it doesn't mean you love the people who have supported you any less or believe any less in your values and beliefs. > That is one of the most honest things I've heard someone say about Jewel. > A little bit too drastic, but at least Kristy was honest. I just hope > that she doesn't stay this way forever. She'll lose a lot of fans this > way. :( This is going to sound like a mean thing to say, and I definitely don't mean to be mean about it, but anyone who doesn't have enough faith in Jewel to stick by her, should probably reconsider why they're following anyone at all. We're not babies who need to be coddled every time mommy makes an appearance, especially in times when the thoughts of others are directed towards the loss of 2 wonderful human beings.
