I wasn't going to post anything about this...but seeing as everyone else is, and I see the varying opinions...here's mine... First of all, this just goes to prove that it's okay to admire someone, as we all do, Jewel, but some people take things to far...Princess Diana...a princess...but she was human like the rest of us.... She had a really miserable life in a lot of ways, yet she made a stand to find her own happiness, putting everything she loved on the line...she technically lost her children...among other things.... Everyone loved her, except for the ones she needed love from...her family...the royal family... We all go thru things, too...maybe this is what we should learn from this... Find your own happiness...it won't find you... Don't look to someone else for it....they will disappoint you And when you feel like there's no way to turn....make your own way.. Find that strength....only you have in you..can't absorb someone else's strength alone....you need your own strength I do grieve for Diana...and her family really needs our prayers.... But you know? The people that put her on that pedestal, are the very ones that knocked her off....she wasn't invincible....she was just human. Please remember that...Jewel is only human too...don't expect her to do extraordinary things or be someone extraordinary...she's not...she's just like us... Her talent may be extraordinary...but we can't worship that...we all have things about us too that make us each individually extraordinary..... We all admire her....but we really shouldn't take it much farther than that... I expect to get flamed for saying that...but that's how I feel. This will be an event that'll go down in history books...you'll remember where you were and what you were doing when it happened. It's such a tragedy; I can't believe it. She was such a beautiful, compassionate woman. Her life was full of hardships, and it's so horrendous that now, when she was just getting out of that horrible marraige and getting her life straightened out, it all ended so suddenly and unexpectedly. Her brother said that ever since the begginning he knew that the press would be the end of her. You know, we criticize and are offended when Jewel gets negative press, but compared to all the hell that Princess Di had to go through, Jewel is so lucky. The press makes me so mad. Also, in the new Magnet, with the awesome band Tsunami on the cover, the inside back cover, well the last pages of the mag has a piece, Back Page, called Tunes 'N' Ass by Phil Sheridan with some stuff on Jewel, here is part of it: Fiona Apple is in my living room, stark naked, and I don't like it one bit. Not that it's any big deal. She'll be gone in the few minutes it takes the soft-core video for her song "Criminal" to play out. She'll be replaced by a leggy Jewel Kilcher, writhing in ecstasy to "You Were Meant For Me." And then Paula Cole will come on and lean *waaaaaay* back with her little cut-off T-shirt, or Gwen Stefani will be doing parlor tricks with her well-chiseled abs. All these world-class babes disrobing, and I don't even have to get off the sofa. You can have your Virtual Wet Dream Triple-X Web site, pal. I've got my MTV... ...Let's look at the phenomenon known as Jewel. Her album, Pieces of You, was released what seems like a decade ago. It sat around for a while, ignored, then suddenly caught fire. She was nominated for Grammys. There she was, this apparently harmless hippie-looking girl from Alaska, suddenly becoming well-known and marketble. As soon as it was clear there was big money at stake, she got all but naken for her next video. They even hired a handsome guy to suck on her neck while she sang. From hippie chick to Toni Braxton in one move. One backward move. Jewel shared the cover of Details magazine's music issue earlier this year with Jakob Dylan. It was an interesting combination. Bob's kid is young, handsome, sexy and talented. Just like Jewel. But for all the videos the Wallflowers have made, for all the magazine spreads and interviews Jakob has done, I still don't know whether his navel is pierced. I can't say the same about most of those post-feminist video bimbos. OK, that's all, if you want to read the rest go look at the mag. I don't know if it's out yet, I got it in the mail. Hi EDA's, this is my first, only, and last post about the idea of hounding Atlantic to release a new album or material Jewel recorded at Bearsville. As much as I would personally love to see(or is that hear?) a new album, it's not really in our hands, as so many have pointed out already. Most of the songs that would have been on the album are probably already available in the form of angelfood, or on an ra, the latter of which I would agree leaves something to be desired as far as clarity. Angelfood, however, has plenty high enough quality for me, some, such as Jstock, rivaling cd or even lp quality. The only benefit an album would have, in my opinion, is the "repeat" button (which, now that I think about it, is a REALLY good thing). Anyway, we're all going to have to be content with the rewind button. ;) * posting... This part is about some posts that come up every so often. Though I cannot remember any in particular, I implore everyone to think first about responding to posts which can be classified as, well, "logically challenged." I know sometimes people might come up with seemingly far-fetched anticipations which reflect a certain naivity(sp?)... take them for what they are...that the person may not know any better, or may have not had the benefit of a long tenure as part of this great list. So give them a little leniency when someone asks that maybe if we write enough letters to the White House President Clinton will change Thanksgiving Day into Jewel day ;). Appreciate the person's "enthusiasm" for what it is... that they have an ambitious mind and very good intentions. So next time we see an "interesting" post, let's offer a helping and loving hand rather than a poignant, condescending demi-flame. Please think a bit before replying to a post that nobody's posting personally to you just so you can ruin someones day thanks - -linda the lovable, needsa huggable, right angle angel ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Aug 1997 18:03:12 PDT From: "Karen Boysen" Subject: JC: V-12 Cadillac Is this song out on radio? All I have is "Pieces Of You" and need to hear more. If someone would be so kind as to make me a tape with non-POY songs, I'd pay for tha tape and shipping. And send a Jewel drawing I did (I know everybody-and-thier-brother have drawn a sketch of her, but mine's a cute cartoon). ONE REQUEST: the tape would amillion times bester if it contained the song "Too Darn Hot" from Unplugged (in fact all of the non-POY songs from unplugged would be wicked as well). I melt when I hear that song (get it: too hot > melt, heh heh, nevermind). I consider you heavenly EDAs the kindest and most welcoming list I've been on (I' been around) so I know I can depend on you. If you wanna take this task on, drop me a line and I'll tell ya my favorite stuff (from what I've heard). (First post, *blush*) The longer the tape the better, I'll pay for it! (in advance).
