Jewel tix, unless you're buying them from certain profit first types of people (hey, maybe this person is a front for Atlantic records =oP) are NOT expensive. U2, Rolling Stones, THOSE are expensive. I really doubt that the Jewel that we all know and love would abide to her tickets selling for any more than @$35. I've been doing this for a while (intermittent rants and raves of medium to greater length), so I do make it a point to have some idea of what I'm talking about before I go off. Second, the person who made the original post actually emailed me saying (in paraphrase, feel free to defend yourself if you need to) "well, what's wrong with making $30 for the time and effort involved in getting these tickets to someone else," and admitted that she only paid &70 for the pair. So yes, this person is a greedy money grubber (take a lesson from those fabled Harrises I keep hearing about). Third, personal emails to me have, with two exceptions (one being the one I'm rebutting here, the other being the ticket seller) have all supported my stand on profiting from tickets. Makes me feel good to be an EDA, but on that note, I say that there be a rule of decency and whatnot that NO-ONE SHALL POST AN OFFER TO SELL TICKETS FOR ANY MORE THAN FACE VALUE + SERVICE CHARGE + SHIPPING. Ok anyway. Well I remember someone saying that on the mtv show "And the Nominees Are" (I think that's what it's called) they played the Sean Penn version of YWMFM. Well, I watched that show tonight just because I've been dying to see that vid forever and they didn't even play it! They played the version that they always show. Maybe I was just mistaken and the person didn't say that they showed the Sean Penn version in the first place, who knows. But I was pretty disappointed. Oh, and I turned on my tv before it started just to see the last minute or so of Singled Out, and they had a Jewel question. It was something like "Better music gift: Ruby or Jewel." They all said Jewel except for one girl, and then someone won. So then the host guy says "By the way, if Jewel ever watches this I think she owes Joni Mitchell a thank you note." Blah. Opinion on my part ;-) Hi all, I've been reading various posts regarding mass EDA protesting to Atlantic about the delayed release of a second Jewel CD until mid 98. I know the intentions behind this are good & I can understand how knowledgable EDAs want more "product". However protesting to Atlantic will achieve nothing other than to possibly put a negative spin on the EDAs in Atlantic's & possibly management's eyes. Many people don't seem to realize that Jewel has no desire to release the Bearsville sessions right now as is. There is so much quality new material that she intends on recording before she decides what'll be included. Remember, her repertoir consists of well over 500 (!) songs now & the 25 or so done in Bearsville last year are not neccesarily all of what Jewel wants to reflect her next step. Shouldn't her most knowledgable fanbase respect her intelligence on this? When I read a lot of these posts, I just want to say give the girl some credit! She's no puppet in Atlantic's hands! Yes, they are in the record business. They're goal is to sell CDs. Over 5 million copies of POY sold within the past 12 months. Any business with half a brain is gonna consider THOSE people in their decision making over a hardcore fan base of a few thousand. THATS why they're in no hurry. Its not arrogance on their part. Its common sense. I also have to add that Jewel & Lenedra have been way more than generous with the relationship they've maintained with the EDAs. Be it Jewelstock, authorized unreleased material being FREELY distributed occasionally or simply staying in contact. I think that says it all. They let the company care for the masses & they've personally taken care of the EDAs. So whats the problem? Feel free to write Atlantic, but rather than bitching about there strategy, you may want to consider suggesting ways of pleasing Jewel's fanbase in an intelligent way. I too feel a new CD would be a welcome addition to everyone's collections, but I want it to be whatever Jewel wants it to be. Don't you? If that means waiting a while longer, isn't that OK? I don't work for Atlantic & I personally couldn't care less about them, but I do think getting upset over release dates is trivial in the big EDA picture. Make some friends, get together & enjoy life! Hope to see a lot more of you at upcoming shows! :-) All the best, MrBB *********************************** Before you email me, please read: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/#mrbb *********************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Aug 1997 20:18:16, -0500 From: CNWP80C@prodigy.com (MR STEVEN J BLOOM) Subject: Jewel in the movies Yes, she did a screen test with Leo Dicaprio. She replied that she did a screen test with Leo, and for everyone to keep their fingers crossed. I for one am excited by this new turn of events. Hello angels, I was half watching MTV yesterday and heard Matt Pinfield talking about Jewel's nomination for the Video Music Awards. Anyway, he mentioned something along the lines of a casting tryout for a movie or production whose title sounded very similar to "Sense and Sensibility," and that it had to do with the Civil War. He said he hoped she got the part, or something like that. I would like to know(as I am sure many others would) whether or not this story has any validity, i.e. me hearing things; but I am pretty I heard/saw it. Let me and everyone else know if you have any insight on this... I was curious that I had not heard it through the list first, so was a little skeptical... I was just looking around today and a found a neat site where they turn bands and singers into cartoons. They also have a place to pick who will be the next person cartoonized and you can vote for Jewel!!! Personally I think it would be really cool to see Jewel to be the next Rocktoon. So everyone go to http://www.rocktoons.com and vote for Jewel for the next Rocktoon!! It would be real cool if she won!!! So try to vote but only one per day or all yours votes won't count. To those angels who do pray, I would urge you to pray for Diana's children, William and Harry to get through this difficult time. For those who don't know, Princess Diana has passed away, circuming to fatal injuries she sustained in an automobile accident in Paris, apparently trying to get away from tabloid photographers. News of her passing has been reported by the French Interior Minister and is being reported over the BBC. Her passing has also just been confirmed by Buckingham Palace. I know some people may not care, but for someone like myself who started life as a subject of the Crown, this news has not been something I wanted to hear after so much positive energy this week. The world has lost someone who genuinely cares a lot about people despite the emphasis the press has had on her fashion sense, her role with the Royal Family, and her private life. We'll all miss you Diana. Albert Wang Dark Seraph bahamude@user1.channel1.com ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #679 ***************************
