Hi Chris & Other EDAs! I don't have one of those fancy readers that everyone else has where I can easily insert text from other messages into my "Reply" message, but, this original message asked whether or not there was a Jewel concert at Tussey Mountain Amphitheater next Wednesday, Sept. 3rd. No, there is not, the date has been changed to Monday, Sept. 8th, and the venue has been changed, too, moving just down the road and indoors to Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State University. Originally there was a Jewel concert scheduled for Tussey Mtn. on Sept. 3rd, but ~month or so ago that got changed--the web page that this info'd come from probably was just using old information. I had been planning a post on all of the details as to how to get tickets for this concert, etc. etc., which I will do in about five minutes under the heading "Jewel at Penn State, Sept. 8th". I'll try to put in as many details as possible, but for now, info can be obtained at either 1-814-865-5555 or 1-800-863-3336, and tickets can be bought by phone at 1-800-ARTS-TIX (that's 1-800-278-7849). My name is Mike and I'm a happy newbie to this list! I can't believe the number of posts there are! Anyway...This morning (10 am) I heard an interview with Jewel on the New York City radio station Z100 (100.3). Here's some news that you may or may not already know. - -Jewel no longer carries around the little tupperware contaner with the dirt from Alaska. She said that it was hard to travel with it, traveling through all the international borders and stuff. - -She had only expected to sell 100,000 copies of POY, but now sales are around 6 million!! She doesn't want to be considered "a phenomenon but only what happened to her a phenomenon." - -Jewel said that "you have to stay involved in the business end of music, or you'll get crushed" (or something along those lines). She is apparently involved with Atlantic, so I guess she has some say in any decisions made on the release of her new album. She said that she had started working on it about a year ago, but as we all know, it was a little sidetracked when YWMFM and WWSYS took off. - -About her past...Jewel had said that in a period of about 6 months, she had gotten and lost 5 jobs. - -Also, she no longer eats carrots and peanutbutter. Well, I still like them;) - -**Movie news** She had just finished a screen test with Leonardo DiCaprio (sp?) She is trying out for the female lead in the next Anglee (sp??) film. well, see you angels in heaven (the Jewel concert this weekend at the PNC Arts Center) hehehehe ;) Mike Lin ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Aug 1997 10:46:28 -0400 From: katherine732@juno.com (katherine h) Subject: Re: New European Tour Dates, Germany On Thu, 28 Aug 1997 16:52:10 +0200 Marian Veselcic >Just read 'live in concert' a german magazine which provides >information >about upcoming tours. Hard to believe that she is playing huge venues by herself now!! That was the show in which, to the dismay of Big Al, Dave, and Dean, I found Lenedra and Bibi and talked to them for quite a long while!! Sorry guys!! I couldn't find you, so I just seized the moment. Then there were all those wonderful plans that we had to attack the security guard and catapult me over the fence.....hehehehehe, those were the days!!! =) Well, have a wonderful day!! I'll see all those going to Cleveland for Tara tomorrow!!! I've been on the list for a few days now, and I'm amazed at the amount of messages that go through this list everyday! Let's see... here's some background info on me: My name is Alan Lee, I live in Mt. Pleasant, MI; and my favorite kinds of music are alternative and soft/classic rock. I also attended Interlochen for two summers, what years was Jewel there? I'm very musical, I play the piano, violin, guitar (acoustic), and I also sing. I'm happy to be on the list, and hopefully, I can contribute is some way :) BTW, can I be the angel of music, or is that already taken? - -Alan Lee ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Aug 1997 15:52:33 -0700 From: "Wang, Andy" Subject: Anybody going to Bumbershoot? They bash one or two things about Jewel then run out of things to say, so they start bashing each other. Their comments are tasteless, and the members act like a bunch of upset Junior High kids who have nothing better to do but hate. This list is not a threat to us, nor should we get too upset by it because I for one, will have forgotten about them in a week. Thanks. I was banking on buying a lawn seat tomorrow, and I figured if no one out here responds I would just buy one at the arts center, however to my surprise, they were sold out, just today!! All summer they were fine, but today of all days! If anyone knows of anyone or anything pertaining to an extra ticket please email me. I will come to the pre concert gathering if you are going there as well. Remember anyone with any tix, will sit anywhere. Thanks. If Jewel is going be in a Stephen Speilburg movie, could I be one of the paid extras that get to stand in the background? And if the editors are really cool they won't splice out my little-inch-tall body yelling 'Hey Jewel!!,Hey!!, Hey!!, Come Here!!' in the background. They'll say, 'what is that idoit doing in the background? We could use him in a Leslie Neilson movie!!' Hi All, Just wanta give a big thanks a bunch for all the people helping me out on finding the M.O.M. CD. Fortunetly, I had to work(this is a story, you don't have to read it) today & a coworker, Ben, has a roommate(they live in the same house-not cause of that! - they can't afford a house for ...forget it) his name is Steve. He works in a Wherehouse in a local mall & Ben gave me his #. So I called up & talked to a guy Alex(what a coincidence!). He got the CD on hold for me. I scurried over to the Wherehouse & picked it up. It was only $12.00s. Its got what...21 artists(not counting the intro./closing) all of them got a cool song on it, SO it was a total deal :) The first song I listened to was(guess!)(Yup!) Quiet Warrior by our very own Jewel. Its really good. So what that its shorter than most of the other songs I've listened to that she's produced. Im still excited & maybe I'll someday soon get to hear it live(maybe, at Lora's party!!)(Yeah, I wish too :) Thats it for now. Thanks a bunch, again! Now if only my music career could get going...(wondering thoughts) Later 'Quiet Warrior' <---Woo-Hoo!! Rad song. I think Im getting the M.O.M II Alex :D ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Aug 1997 19:50:10 -0400 (EDT) From: TakiFire@aol.com Subject: Save the linoleum Is the promo cd, Save the linoleum still available. I'd like to know if there are any other EDA's that are going to the Jewel concert on September 10, 1997 in Wallingford, CT. Oh yeah, I'm going to sign this with my name, but it is under my spouse's E-mail address. "Consider how outrageous some record companies paid for the artists under their label (like what Janet Jackson & R.E.M. got for the new contract they signed), " EEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!! oh there will definately be no bad things said about R.E.M. while i am watching.......i'm not flaming but here are something to think about........the $80 million that they "supposedly" got for resiging with Warner Bros. was never confirmed...........while Janet Jackson got $60 million dollars she is only one person......R.E.M. is four people so that would be $20 million if we were going to dot his individually which i totally relize is a lot.....but hink about it this way if they are getting that $80 million i think that they deserve it......they practically founded college radio, have been a major influence on music as we no it.....they've never sold out and always have maintained integrity.....they've never acted like rock stars and are reportedly (unfortunatly i don;t no for real) 4 of the nicest most down to earth guys........so once again i am not flaming just informing..... second......as to why FG is on the B&R soundtrack but not in the movie.....it does say on the cd that the songs are inspired or written for but hat is obviously not true i think that soundtracks are a good place for artists to get a new song or new version of a song out w/o released a whole album.....for example.....Revolution by R.E.M. was an outtake from their Monster cd, that they played probably every night on the Moster tour but didn't put on NAIHF mostly because they were sick of it and didn't like i think, but a lot of the fans really liked it so it was a good place to put it instead of on a new album........in jewel's case her album was badly produced (PLEASE don't flame that comment), and it was a place for her to rework the song into it's present splendor........... ~~lisa jay the R.E.M. obsessed angel that's sad she's not at the Harborlights show right now........ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Aug 1997 21:18:58 -0400 (EDT) From: CEarling@aol.com Subject: Any EDA's going to Sat show at Holmdel?
