I don't know exactly what these Harris brothers(or whatever organization they are) did, but aren't you able to drop it and forgive them? There have been people that have used me, taken money from me in sly ways, abused my friendship, even been outright disrespectful to me in public, but I still forgive them. Here it is: It appears to me the Atlantic Records is not going to put out a commercial single of "Foolish Games" (I am not sure about this statement) and here is a possible reason why there will be no release: If the FG single can only be heard on the radio or B&R soundtrack, then Jewel fans may request the song to their local radio station, and the song, along with Jewel and POY, will get more exposure to increase record sales. I noticed that POY was at or around #10 on the charts, just before FG debuted as a single, and now it is around #7. If Atlantic can boast that they helped Jewel's debut album sell so many millions of copies, then possibly, more quality first-time artists would be willing to sign with Atlantic, thus increasing the company as a whole. According to a brief article posted in the VH-1 website, the winner in this summer's music festivals belongs to Ozziefest, a concert headlined by heavy metal bands such as Ozzie Osborne (related to Joan?), Marilyn Manson, and the like :p Lilith Fair comes in second. Even though it sold on avg. about as much ticket per show (190,000) as Ozziefest, Lilith Fair makes approx. $150,000 less money than Ozziefest, which it's used to measure the degree of success that a summer concert achieved. I think there's two reasons for Lilith Fair's lower-overall profitability: 1) the ticket for Ozziefest is probably higher than that of Lilith (although I don't know the exact difference in price between the two concerts 2) Lilith Fair routinely donates money made in ticket sales to local charities and other non-profit organizations. I doubt strongly that Ozzie and Co. gave anything away for good cause...all the dough went straight to their pocketbook. Anyway, I don't believe the amount of profit a concert generates measure their overall success. To me, Lilith Fair wins the summer of '97 due to its strong, honest performances, its unselfishness in donations to various charities, and JEWEL! :-) Steven, the Angel from Mars ******************* "Well I see Red as well/You see the colour of love/I see the colour of hell" - -"Red", Tara MacLean ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Aug 97 20:16:04 EDT From: Jeffrey Kokosinski Subject: tickets HI all, I'm going to the Jones Beach show and the EDA gathering before hand. I know that this post is extremely late an all of you have completely forgotten about this whole topic (so I'm exaggerating a little) but I must give my 2 1/2 cents worth... First off (you know its going to be long now ;] ) I feel that Jewel should try acting a little bit. I believe that she could and will be a very good actor. (Note: the fact that I did not use "movie star") By her presence on stage and the fact that she communicates and entertains her fans so well on stage I believe she could be a great actor. Secondly, I feel she should start with a supporting role. It's always good to enter with a supporting role. Quite often there roles are more interesting and arn't the "I'll save the day" predictable main roles. Also, if the movie turns out to be very bad or just unpopular all of the weight will not be thrown on her shoulders. Look at Elizabeth Berkley from Showgirls. She had a small role in "First Wives Club" but other then that her career is non-existent. Where the supporting actor in that movie (the popular stripper) I forget her name, I've seen in a few movies now. I must say supporting actor role all the way. She also won't have to spend as much time doing the movie. Next, I feel that Jewel should par take in an independent movie first (and hopefully forever) then a blockbuster. Mainly because I believe that independent films have better acting (actors ?? possibly) better scripts and more emotion.I believe that Jewel would be great in an emotional role, she is just so passionate in her lyrics. Independent films can really mold an actor; giving her a much more interesting and challenging part then most blockbusters. Look at Dwight Yokem in Sling Blade last year. This was an amazing movie, and Dwight did an excellent job in his role, he was extremely moving and good-god believable. Maybe some so-called actors should take a lesson from these great musicians ;) The 3 best movies last year were shine, sling blade and Fargo. All indies, and very interesting and emotional. I'll never forget Francis McDormand's great role in Fargo, but who was that rapper guy in Independence day ;) Blockbusters are fun, but jewel IMO should head towards the independent film area and get a good script and good actors that are trying to prove themselves like she will be. - -->Responses ne1?? I know some of your brains are rattling with comments, send 'em my way. - --> Oh, and I completely agree with you Ashe, Jewel is definitely being overexposed in mags these days. Personally I think Jewel should take a break and spend 2 weeks up in Northern Canada or Alaska and just but this last year into perspective.
