I have quite a bit of angelfood (audio and video) so if you'd like to trade, I'd love to get more Ani and Fiona or even more Jewel (I missed both Jewel's and Fiona's unplugged) Before i go, I seemed to remember that there was a grand rapids, michigan show on jewel's tour. where'd it go?! please someone email me if they know. There are lots of angel/celestial jewelry findings (mini charms) and little star shaped beads that would look cool. And someone else already had the great idea of using the EDA picks with holes in them. Last time I wrote I was at the Claire de Lune to watch Joy and her awesome opening band, The Cat Mary. So last night I was to meet John-Eric at Java Joe's to see Cindy Lee and then we were going to run to the Claire de Lune to catch part of Elizabeth's set. So I drove to Ocean Beach by myself to meet John-Eric. So I'm driving down Newport Ave.heading towards Java Joe's and much to my surprise the street was blocked off by three LLAMA'S!!!!!!! Yes, you heard it, llama's!! I was like whoaaa, this is weird!! I had flashback's of Amy, Dennis, and Larry at Paramount Studio's with the llama's last time I was here!! They were having a street fair and you could get your pictures taken with the Llama's or even have a llama ride. I was tempted but I refrained, because no one was there to share in the glory! Anyhow, I got there early so I walked around OB and talked with the homeless for a while. Then I met John-Eric at Java's. I also met Laura and her friend there which was a wonderful treat. Igor then shows up, big hugs for him, Cindy and Paul show up, and Elizabeth shows up. The people @ the Claire de Lune thought she was still on tour so they booked someone else for the night. Cindy Lee's show was great, Elizabeth sang a couple songs with her, she invited a big group on stage to play the spoons, and John-Eric and Laura's friend (I totally forgot her name and she's going to kill me) got on stage and danced as "Women in cages", quite the go-go dancers they are, I tell ya! It was hilarious!! So after the show John-Eric, Laura's friend and I gathered in a circle on stage and sang harmony to "High-jump" with Cindy Lee. She had Paul come up and record it so we could remember it For Saturday's LRT in Hollywood where we will make our musical debut. Sorry Liz and Duff, you've been replaced, if you can't hang with the big dogs... =) OK, so then we decided to go to Denny's in Pacific Beach where Jewel washed her hair in the sink. It was cool, I've never seen a Denny's with outdoor seating before!! And then we were off to find the old Innerchange where it all began for Jewel. We FINALLY found it and I was shocked! It's like really, really small, I mean really small! It's totally shut down and I think people are living in it now. So we grabbed some rocks from the driveway as souvenir's and finally got home around 4:00 am. I stayed at John-Eric and Man-D's house. Oh I got to meet Man-D too!! =) She's very cool! So we ended up talking til 6:00 am and now I'm back at Tom and Nancy's trying to revive before I head back down to OB. I'm going to Java Joe's again tonight to see this band called Jelly's Pierced Tattoo. Someone we all admire is very fond of this band and is scheduled to make an appearance according to Java Joe!! WOOHOO!! Then I have Java Joe's again tomorrow night for the awesome all-star line-up, and the LRT in Hollywood on Saturday!! Life is grand, isn't it??? OK, enough bragging for me! ;) Love you all- Shelly ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Aug 1997 07:07:18 -05:0 From: "Nathan" Subject: Re: Sticking Up For Atlantic Records > Ummmm.....no. I'm sorry, but I can't abide by someone defending Atlantic > Records, especially for how they've handled Jewel's new album. Right on! I really dig Ben Harper and look at his history: his first album came out in '93 and his THIRD came out two months ago! Look at Bob Dylan's recorded history! Look at Primus! Look at ANY jazz musician! Atlantic is money hungry with an "it's not art, it's product" attitude who wouldn't know a prolific artist if they were beaten about the head several times a day in new and creative ways!!! (Incidentally, I don't really think Atlantic is really any worse than other major labels. Maybe Jewel should go try going to RBR.....) I agree wholeheartedly with you noble Phisherman! They're milking this for all it's worth! And how much money do we really think they put in to an album that was supposed to sell 40,000 copies? I mean, there's audible distortion on "Adrian"!!! This was not an expensive first class venture! Nirvana's "Bleach" cost them $600 to record. Yes POY cost more, but let's keep in mind that an album half filled with live songs and songs with only two or three tracks isn't TOO difficult to make. Done with proper planning and rehearsal, it shouldn't take more than a week from first take to mastering for such a project. Let's be generous and say live songs were done one week and studio songs were done the next week. Still, that's an incredibly low budget for an album that sold over 6 million copies! PS. Do you have any word on the new DMB album? I'm new, and I just wanted to say...". Then a cool(I thought so) idea came to mind. Why don't we form a sort of Welcoming Commitee(Note: Please read entire letter before flaming, or commenting...I'll explain everything). Now, I thought about this somewhat, and this is what I've come up with...I've come up with 2 ways this could go... First idea is that whenever someone new signs on the list, or even like every 2 weeks or every month, Mike could send a list of all the "newbies"(to use a common word) to the list. Then a Welcoming Committee would send him/her a private email welcoming the individual to the list, and giving the individual a sense of welcome arms...that we care about them and want them on the list...not that this isn't true, but it seems that some aren't getting that idea when they sign on the list. My 2nd idea is that whenever a Newbie signs on and announces himself or herself to the list, that same Welcoming Committee would send him/her the same private email. Now, read on, because there are faults to both ideas, which need to be considered... :) In the first idea, the major bad thing is the fact that Mike already has a lot of work to take care of the list, let alone if he has to email every 2 weeks to a month telling the list of new members. Also, it'll add to the list volume. In the 2nd idea, the bad things are...Not all newbies introduce themselves to the list. I didn't for one thing make a specific email saying "Hi! I'm new, and love Jewel" or something like that. I waited, listened/read, and gained an idea of what the list was about before attempting to sink or swim. What I mean by a Welcoming Committee in both ideas is a group of people in a committee for welcoming purposes. No, the new person would not be getting (how ever many people are on the committee) email messages welcoming them. That would probably be worse than doing nothing at all. There would be some sort of system where the committee decides who will email which individual...For example, let's say Jonny Smith(Sorry if there's someone by this name out there) signs on the list, maybe person #1 would welcome him...Then let's say Sarah Yieman signs on next, Person #2(or whoever was designated) would welcome her to the list...and so forth...That would have to be decided at a later time. I'm curious what everyone else thinks about this idea, like which one is preferable, and who would be interested in being on the committee. You'd have to be dependable. If you're on Digest, or News, it would probably be a bad idea to sign up for the commitee, but that's just my opinion :) But it seems that people signing up for the list have no idea what the list is about...I know they receive the FAQ, but a lot probably(this is solely by my observation and deductive reasoning) do not even know about the webpage let alone have taken a serious look at it. I think if we do this committee thing, it might lower the flamability rate of the list(i.e. not as many flames posted, or insults/offenses taken at innocent statements). So, just consider the idea and get back to me PRIVATELY...My email address is mailto:usfulmer@mcs.drexel.edu Seth Fulmer A.K.A. She did some songs with her band and she sounded cool doing harder songs I guess are little angel is multi-talented. Then Indigo girls sang and they got the most crowd response. Then Sarah and Jewel came and sang with the Indigo Girls and you can totally tell Jewel and Sarah are good friends then they kissed each other and everyone was like "Oh my God" then they started laughing and everyone started laughing too, very funny. Then everyone came out and sang a song I dont know but it was cool. Then Sarah came on and she sang alot of songs from her new cd. She came back for a encore and sang "Icecream" then everyone came out including Pat Benatar and sang Joni Mitchell's "Parking Lot".
