I was content to have lawn seats for Tinley Park Lilith, because I was positive that I would get tickets when she came to St. Louis. (Last time, I was out of town for Spring Break)..... (hereby named "KelStock") hello, all, I apologize that some of you may receive this twice, as I am sending it to the list to see if anyone else wants to come. Now that I have you undivided attention, I can tell you about this little gathering, now called KelStock because me and the other kelly are planning it together, and I always wanted to have a KelStock. ANYWAY, KelStock will be on August 31 at about noon time. For all of you calendarless people, that is a Sunday, the day of the Jewel show at Jones Beach, which is not even a half hour from my house. I have one question about that later. Anyway, my mom said no to having this little shindig at my house, since we are all internet psychos and all that, so I made a few calls and found out that Eisenhower Park, a county park very near to my house, has unreserved picnic space that you don't really have to pay for, only a measly $3.00 per car if you don't live in Nassau County, which basically is everyone but me and Russ. I was thinking about maybe meeting at either my house or the parking lot of the grocery store that we will be taking a little EDA field trip to so we can rustle up some grub and stuff. So, basically, all everyone needs to do is bring some moola, just a little, so we can pay the park fees, and pay for the groceries. From wherever we meet, it's off to the park for some EDA lovin! Then we can all head to the show. But until then, everyone that needs directions (which, I assume will be everyone) needs to read on, although I can only provide directions from the Long Island Expressway ALSO KNOWN AS INTERSTATE 495, because I have only lived here for 20 years and I still don't know my wway around. The L.I.E. is one of the biggest major highways (actually, it IS the biggest) on Long Island, so all you really need to do is get yourself directions for wherever you're coming from to either the Clearview or the Crossbronx expressway, and if I am TOTALLY confusing you, email me and I will use my trusty road map CDRom thingee to guide you on your merry way. Anyhoo, here are the directions from the LIE: Take exit 41 South (the sign says 106/107 South Hicksville (that's the name of my town, I swear) you will then obviously be on route 106/107. Follow this until the road splits off-- 106 goes to the right and 107 goes to the left. STAY ON 106--the actual name of this road is NEWBRIDGE ROAD--so in other words, Bear right. After about a 1/2 mile to a mile, you will come to an intersection which is Newbridge Road and Old Country Road. (It's a pretty big intersection, with a shopping center with a CVS on the right) Make a right at this intersection, so now you will be going West on Old Country Road. Follow this for about a few hundred feet, and you will pass an Elementary School on your left, and right after that on your right, you will see a sign that says "Levittown Parkway Next Signal" It's not an actual parkway, just a main road. Make a left on to Levittown Parkway. You can't go right because you will crash into the 7-11 that is to the right. If we are meeting at my house, yeah, lets just meet at my house, it's easier, and we have a toilet for all you that have been sitting in a car for hours. Anyway, you are on Levittown Parkway. Make the FIRST right onto Access Lane. Go to the end and make a right onto Acre Lane. Follow this around the bend and then take the 2nd left, which is Apollo Lane. This is my street. My house number is 32, it is a blue house, and there will be either a green explorer, a red bronco, a silver Cougar and/or a tan Buick Regal somewhere on the premises. There is a very ugly statue smack in the middle of the front lawn that my father says is supposed to be a tiger but really just looks like a...well, I don't really know what it looks like, but it's ugly. So now you are at my house. Get out of the car, walk up the driveway, and ring the doorbell, and if a 20something year old girl answers the door, that would be me, the impaled angel! If not, then ask for me! If any of you have any questions as to how to get to my house or to Long Island, Email me ASAP! Also, if you are just hearing about this now, sorry for the short notice, but I am a procrastinator. But if you are just hearing about this, PLEASE RSVP to me or The other Kelly (I am AngelKM97 and the other Kelly is Leftychic. ) Oh yeah, here's my other question about the show later that night...can someone give me a ride? I only got one ticket and i don't have a car! Also, it would be really cool if someone could bring sports stuff, like a bat and ball (even if it's wiffle) and a frisbee, and well, you know, stuff! Well, for all of you who I already know are coming, see you there, and as for everyone else that wants to come, RSVP to me or Kelly ASAP!! Oh yeah....ABEL ROSARIO>>>>YOU BETTER GET IN TOUCH WITH ME< YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MISS THIS!!!!! I DON"T HAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDY!!!!!! Ok, here's the deal -- there are a number of EDA's that will be attending the show, so of course we all have to get together!!!! Once again Tammy and I are inviting attending EDAs to our house for a pre-show BBQ. We live about 10 miles (20 minutes) from the venue, so it's a short drive. However, this gathering will not be of the magnitude that our past events have been, there are a few unusual rules -- (1) Please no "pre-cleared" non-EDA guests -- please (2) We are having a "potluck" BBQ -- which means you really should bring something. A&P is right down the corner if you just want to buy something. (3) This is not a normal gathering, so don't expect alot -- it is just a bunch of friends getting together before a show. Schedule of events: 2:00pm -- Gather at our house and fire up the BBQ 6:00pm -- Lawn seat people should make their way to the venue, I will probably follow shortly after 8:00pm -- show begins For those not planning to attend our BBQ, but do want to meet at the show we should probably set a meeting place at the venue. That will be decided later. What I need from you is a quick e-mail letting us know your plans (i.e., will you be at the BBQ or just show). Please e-mail myself at neoblcar@aol.com or Tammy at tlcathome@aol.com Can't wait to see ya there! -- Rob ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Aug 1997 20:12:16 -0400 (EDT) From: Albert Sze-Wei Wang Subject: Re: Jewel's ahead! And what >if we don't want to play these "If you're one of the next ten people who >send me mail..." games? Hi Andrew, I wanted to repond to the list because I felt this is important to everyone. I do not want to flame you for your beliefs, rather express my being insulted by them. First, the reason I am insulted. I am one of the people who recently had one of these "Games" to make tapes for people. I'm sorry that you feel that they are games. But, what are we supposed to do? Make tapes for anyone and everyone who needs them? It would be nice, but fo you realize the time and effort involved? I work a full time job, would like to have time for a personal luife and still help people out. I aalso like to make "real" trades where I get stuff in return. In my recent offering, I took abotu 7 people (including someone in another country) for a total of over 20 tapes. That's 30 hours of recording time. That may not seem like a big deal, but remember, every minute I'm recording, I can't make trades for myself, or even listen to other music. On to the second point about the tapes being exclusionary? The only guyideline is being on the list. I have a web page up with a list of 22 people who trae, many who will do blanks (a limited amount) This list is only 2 weeks old and will grow. There are at least 2 other plans in the works (one by sparksmark and Tony, the other by gerrit) all aimed at helping newbies. I really feel offended that you feel people are not helping when I'm devoting my time and web space to just that, much like others. All it takes to get tapes is a little patience, don't expect JS in your hands three days after joining (not aimed a you Andrew, I know you've been here) you will get tapes. Most of the pople I am doing blank trades with promised to do the same for others, so next time 25 might win the game instead of 5 Matt the trading list angel Check out the trading list page at http://www3.edgenet.net/mmilner/jewel.html and if you have anything to trade please sign up! :-) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Aug 1997 17:55:46 +0000 From: Rich Subject: Re: Re: MTV video music awards >I could only click on the little circle right next to the >picture and I'm not sure if my vote has gotten into the ballot. I voted for about half an hour (I'm not sure if every time I voted that it counted, but hey) and Jewel had a slim lead of about 4%. Even though we're not part of this group to be famous, it would be cool to have her thank us. Reasons to vote for Jewel and YWMFM: 1) It's a great song and beautiful video, 2) I have this theory: That rappers can only make a song with meaning if someone dies. Besides Puff Daddy (I feel STUPID just saying that name!) had to "borrow" the chorus to that song from Sting to start with! 3) The Spice Girls should been finished with their glory a long time ago. (I think their downfall will be when their movie comes out.) 4) I will admit that Prodigy's "Breathe" video was well done and it fits the song, but the song is weak so it doesn't deserve your vote. 5) Well, I like the Wallflowers for their songs "6th Avenue Heartache" and "The Difference" (along with their entire album) but "One Headlight" isn't one of my favorites. Secondly, when I saw the Wallflowers Unplugged, I found out that Jakob Dylan's singing isn't that much better than mine! (And I think I'm slightly tone deaf and I'm too afraid to sing Happy Birthday.) Thanks for reading my opinions and facts that I have gathered, and vote for YWMFM for as long as you can. Hey everyone!! :) I went to this one last Wednesday...yeah, I'm a little behind on posting about it, but I figured Crunch covered it pretty well...Rain was the key word for this concert...and cold, too... It was a great show! The Indigo Girls put on one of the better performances. What was really cool was to see the audience react to Jewel's performance--it was amazing to see how many people just stopped to listen to her...it was at that point that moving through the crowd was difficult! The crowd got very quiet for her when she sang "Angel Standing By", and she looked absolutely angelic from way up on the hill where I was. Everyone was watching her, on their feet, singing along...the people around us kept looking at us while we sang along to songs that no one else knew, which was kinda funny! It was nice to see how everyone responded to her songs...now only if they had the sound up louder, we could have heard her better way up on that hill!! Sarah had a good performance, too--I was just happy to finally see her in concert! Oh, and I got to meet Patty Griffin! She is very nice, and so small--you wouldn't think she was that small when you hear her powerful voice! She was just passing through the crowd outside the Border's tent. The Lilith Fair compilation cd is very good, too--Kim got the last one there!! And they were giving out free tapes of lesser-known artists--also extremely good! Even though I was freezing and wet, which made me even colder (and now I have a sore throat!!), I can say that I had a lot of fun, and enjoyed the concert very much!
