The two interviews were convinced that CLB and EH didnt know Jewel and were lying. They were pigs asking them if they slept in the same bed during the LRT. And when they asked them where they stayed on th LRT, it seemed like they were implying there poor, never gonna make it, wannabes! =( But they did give them lots of praise after their live performances. And the morning crew kept on emphasising how the radio station was top notch and the best in Cincy. I personally think Q102 sux and its all mainstream. They played songs from CLB and EH's cds that morning but they will probably never be heard of again! =( I havent heard anything about CHB and EH ever since! =( I think Fish should say more about this! =) It was your voice on the radio right? =) Sorry i couldnt make it i found out about it too late! =( Sorry for the long post! take care Angels. - -Tony ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Aug 1997 02:49:06 -0700 From: red_ranger@juno.com (Nick the blurred Angel) Subject: Web page Could an EDA help me out (again)? First off, I want to thank Greg for hosting this event, because otherwise I would probably would never have met any other EDAs. Now on to the show. When we (we being myself and my mom) first drove past the house to park, I saw four people sitting in the driveway, and I recognized Toni, of course, because of the bright hair (I had heard of this, I had seen some pictures, but the real life sight was still amazing!) So, this is the point where I started to get nervous. When I get nervous, I get really really quiet, so I hope nobody got the impression that I was pissed off or anything. We walked for what seemed like a mile up that driveway with these four people looking at us, probably wondering who the hell we were. As I got closer, I recognized Shelly, and I assumed that it was Liz who was sitting behind her. So I got there and said, "Hi. I'm Hunter" They all introduced themselves, and about 5 minutes later CLB abd EH pulled up. This is when we went inside. I went inside and met Chris, Matt, Greg, and Tim, who was cutting out the J-card for Rare Angels '95 which he had copied for me (thanks again). Then some people went outside and started blowing bubbles, and I met Jessica from the Tara list, who happens to be going to Ball State University in my hometown, Muncie, IN. People ate pizza and melon balls and stuff somewhere in there, too. Then the concert started. My thoughts on CLB and EH were as follows: EH- I thought her music was pretty good, and I enjoyed her set, but I didn't really get too into her because, in order for me to really like deeper music, it has to really get to me. CLB- I really liked her set. She had a lot of energy (despite the 2 or 3 hours sleep that they had the night before) and sang more about fun stuff than anything else, which is easy for me to enjoy. So, I thought she was very funny and really liked her set :) After the singing was over, we pretty much had to leave immediately, so I didn't get to stick around for the post-show stuff. Overall, I had a good time, I got that awkward first meeting out of the way, and I got my mom to trust the EDAs. I'd say that's a pretty successful evening :) "Quiet" Hunter Eggink ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Aug 1997 04:03:39 -0400 (EDT) From: BurnBlk@aol.com Subject: SJC:Launch/Lilith/Double i got the cd rom magazine launch for free through juno.{it was free} and there is a part where jewel says waht bands she likes. it's neat. it is issue no. 14. i wanted to mention i really love the lilith fair web site. it's wwwlilithfair.com i got my eda pic's i love them. i want to know what the double cd at cdnow is too. i wrote them email asking them but they did not reply. i want to have a hallowen party. i suggest if you live near nyc you should go see juliana hatfield in concert on monday. i can't go. it's too far. powerman 5000 is playing in concert there also on monday. i wish i was there. wendy ps. i tried to save my one liners all weekand now i can't think of them but there are a few above. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 07 Aug 1997 02:05:01 -0600 From: johnnyU Subject: Jewel's Lilith Fair Book Page I went ahead and made a page for the Lilith Fair book. Because I love her music, I don't like to hear criticism for her. I have heard some people compare Jewel to the great Joni Mitchell. I don't mind the comparison, but sometimes people say it in a way that accuses Jewel of being a "hack" to Ms. Mitchell, and I hate that. So, it would like to hear people give evidence supporting that Jewel is not a "hack" to Joni Mitchell. I have heard Jewel say she hadn't listened to JM until after POY was recorded. Also, Mitchell's guitar tuning was, and still is very different. If Jewel were copying JM then she probably would tune her guitar in a weird way. SIGHT. We look at our surroundings, remarking on what to avoid that would impede our progress. SMELL. We wrinkle our noses at putrid scents without ever bothering to enjoy the pleasant ones. SOUND. Hearing is just a process for gathering information. TOUCH. Using our hands to pick up and move things, we never really pause and remark how these things feel. TASTE. We consume food, putting it into our bodies as mere fuel without savoring the experience. It's as if the bleakness of our everyday lives--the oppressive weight of existence--chokes us...ravages at our souls. Slipping into the obscurity of numbness, we become ghosts in the lives we lead. So willing to give up dreams and hope in exchange for banality and despair. I get that way. Often. The world becomes a place of concrete, steel and glass. Everything is grey. It hurts so much to open your heart, chase your dreams...and fail. It's such a risk. Easiest thing is just to not try, not care, not feel, not hold anything dear. Drift through the world obeying the societal rules. It's /so/ disheartening. I don't want to be muted; I don't want to be dull. I wish to cast off the restraint I've allowed to be placed upon my being. I want to be INSPIRED, to SHINE, to savor and appreciate everything no matter how much the brilliance can hurt sometimes. A key to that is to NUTURE your senses. Experience everything in the simpliest of terms. The mundane will become fantastic; the average will become extraordinary. Utilize any and all senses you possess and you will see the world in a different light. As you rush through life, shielding yourself from your surroundings...pause. Stop. Experience. Let life envelope you. Swaddle you. Use /vision/ instead of mere sight when you look about yourself. Beauty is everywhere. Stop and smell the proverbial roses. Go someplace quiet and listen. You'll be amazed how loud quiet is. Wind moving like soft velvet through the cool leaves, a stream cutting it's path over rocks and soil, birds caught in joyous song. When you pick something up, how does it feel? Is it rough like a kitten's tongue, smooth as glass-like ice? As the first snowflake drifts from the sky, catch it on your tongue; /taste/ winter. When you appreciate all your senses, when you no longer take them for granted, they come together, uniting in the most precious sense of all: Sensitivity. The fabric of our souls. This is the sense that can make your heart soar. This is the sense that inspiration is birthed from. Gentleness, love, understanding, innocence, HOPE...they all reside within us. It never dies. We just ignore it for the most part, are numb to it. So look around. Savor your life. Refuse to bow beneath the tyranny of a commonplace outlook to your existence. We are not drones. We are each a shining light...capable of /so/ much. Don't settle for /so/ little. SHINE. Jewel's contribution to the cause was discussed in the following excerpt: Kaplan said that putting together MOM II was fun as well as rewarding because the artists really cared about the project. "A lot of these artists surf, are ocean nuts, and so it was really neat working with them," Kaplan said. "Like Jewel. She not only gave a new song for the album, but it's something she passionately believes in. And she surfs so we had a chance to go surfing and get to know her a little bit better. It's not just like 'Here's a track,' but it's something she deeply believes in. She's a really spiritual person and it's neat to get to see that side of some of these people." I wanted everyone to know that my band "Lost In Reality" is now touring CT, MA, RI, and NY. Thought you guys may be interested cause our sound has been compared to Tori Amos and Fiona Apple. My female singer writes also and her songs sound more Jewel-ish. My band sparked Mr. BB's attention and he even requested a press-kit. (WE cover some Jewel as well) :) It's only the 2 of us and our 12-song cassette is for sale for $9 shipping included. (NOTE: The singer on this cassette is the OLD singer. The EP with the new singer is due out on Sept. 1st.) If this is of interest to you, drop me a line. Now for the Jewel related post I DESPERETLY need a copy of Jewelstock. Who can help me out? The rooms I have reserved are on the outskirts of Toronto (15 minutes I was told) in Mississauga-Toronto. We will be arriving (atleast my car load) in the evening time on the 14th. We will be located at the Days Inn at 4635 Tomkins Rd & Ellington (trying to understand a quick speaking operator). The rooms are connected, so we can have a large section. No suites. =( We have the rooms until the 14th to 17th when we would be heading towards Montreal for the next shows. So...email me back if interested in meeting. thanks Tegan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 07 Aug 1997 14:23:37 -0500 From: BrianBC Subject: NJC...an ACTUAL eda yearbook... I read a message asking if there was an EDA yearbook to get a copy of. Of course there wasn't, only the website, but I was just thinking... wouldn't it be great to really have one? Put like everyone's picture in there, and then have a page for each of the gatherings....that would be really neat. If anyone else thinks so, gimme a private e-mail...this might be worth looking into if I get enough responses. :) Brian -- the Angel that Thinks a Lot brianbc@geocities.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Aug 1997 16:06:32 -0400 (EDT) From: FLPsocr14@aol.com Subject: NJC: Just saying Hi! He wrote Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn, and many other novels. Many of these were banned at various pionts because of their sexual content. He and Anais Nin were lovers. (She also being a write of erotic literature). They were both married to other people at the time adn their affair lasted for years. If your interested in the story Tropic of Cancer adn Capricorn are both pretty autobiographical and you can read all about them in there. Alice Esteves P.S. I may seem new to this list but I'm actually a "born-again-newbie" or something. I used to be on this list two years ago but dropped of right before Jewelstock and right before Jewel got huge because I couldn't handle the volume of mail. "sexy!" shouted a guy up front....... the article goes on to talk about tracy chapman and how she sang "behind the wall." and... how tracy is the pillar of lilith. - --------------- i find it humorous that SPIN, the magazine which, in self-proclamation supports new and upcoming artists has the nerve to speak of jewel as if she were a teeny-bopper without worth. i mean BEFORE jewel was multi-platinum, the journalists didn't seem to be jealous or spiteful. they seemed to think she was was something along the lines of a spokesperson...... and to counteract jewel's immature nature with a song by chapman--that jewel sings--it is enough to make an eda smile that smug smile of "i guess this is what i get for knowing the inside stories.." i do understand why people would have such an opinion of jewel. however, i think instead of everyone looking at how conventional her methods of songwriting are, they should look at production, package, and the fact that almost everyone in the world is in love with her. i thought the picture was cute--a typical jewel with her spaghetti straps dress and guitar..... she is also mentioned in the exposure of abra moore (where jewel once lay sprawled out in turquoise and ivory as an upcoming). the article is basically about all the freaking female artists. we all know the story. ...according to top 40 doctrine, only a finite number of female acts can achieve pop stardom in a given year. others must fail, the wisdom goes, so jewel may prosper....... well enough of my editorial nonsense. luna ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 07 Aug 1997 17:14:56 -0400 From: Andy Baker Subject: NJC--what in the heck... ...is going on with the list?
