There will be a fantastic club show in Toronto on Thursday Aug 14th, as Holly McNarland plays The Horseshoe on Queen St. at Spadina. I guarantee you won't be disappointed if you get to see her. It's a bar, legal age in Canada is 19, bring photo ID. It will also probably be a sellout so plan to arrive very early to ensure admission. I'll be at least checking the bar by 6-7pm. I'm dead tired, so a full report on our Cindy Lee Berryhill / Elizabeth Hummel LRT stop will have to wait till tomorrow. I promise details! But a few things to whet your appetites: I got a wonderful turnout of EDAs; at least 6 out-of-state list members made the trek, and I love you all. Liz, Shelly, Tim: You guys are the best. Thanks so much for making the trip. Michael: Thanks for coming; it was great to see you again. Jessica and Hunter and his mom: Welcome to the club! And Chris Lewis: dude, you ROCK ROCK ROCK. Chris brought REAL big fat Chicago pizzas for all of us, excellent wine and beer for the adults, and two pairs of Chuck Taylors for Toni. I hereby vote you into the EDA All-Star hall of fame. Larry Greenfield, Chris is trying to outdo you for the "big heart" award. :-) Everyone settled down and the concert started shortly after 8. Elizabeth took her turn first, with a few vocal accompaniments by Cindy. Then there was a break, and Cindy came back for part two, with occasional assistance from Elizabeth. Yeah, yeah, I'll give details in the long posting. Suffice to say that they were quite engaging, and put a lot of energy into their performances for two people operating on 3 hours of sleep. There were more than a few memorable songs that I'm very happy I got to hear. The audience was very responsive, and the ladies sold quite a number of T-shirts and CDs. Thanks again to all the local folk who took my word for the concert and spent a fun evening being introduced to these two fine performers. And extra-special big EDA hugs to the rest of you, for supporting CLB and EH in making this tour a big success so far. I'm off to bed; I'll try to get the full-length message out Wednesday sometime. Which I passed along to you all. Then I mentioned all the contridictions about it and she asked Jewel who said she last measured in at 5'5 1/2" shes about sure. It was about a 7-hour drive for me but it was well worth it. Thanks to RiceBoy who hooked an angel up with a ticket (ME) I got to spend the day in a beautiful city with beautiful people. Tien and I got there pretty much when the gates opened at 3 and after a couple of try's I was able to get my camera in....yeah. We finally hooked up with about half of the 13 expected people after a few hours of wandering around. We caught a few sets of the artists on the second stage, my favorite of which was Alisha's Attic who are on the Lillith tape that they were giving out. They are from London and boy can you tell it =) They are sisters from what I understand and they did a great set. Finally it was time for the Main Stage to come alive and Lisa Loeb kicked it off. I enjoyed her set and am anxiously awaiting her new CD which she says she is currently working on. After Lisa's set we finally found Will and Carrie, unfortunately this would be the last time that I would see them again for the rest of the day...I guess they weren't able to make it to the meeting place afterwards =( Throughout the day I was also able to go bug Jay who works at the Nettwerk booth. He remembered me from Irvine Lillith and we talked on several occasions. He is a great guy and loves the EDA's so make sure you all go introduce yourselves at the future Lillith's and tell him Farr sent you ;) Unfortunately I missed Emmy Lou while I was talking to Carrie and Bill but as I started heading back it was time for Joan Osbourn. She kicks A$$. I enjoyed her powerful performance. Finally as the sun set it was time for Jewel..WOO HOO =) She started off with NYA which was a pleasant change from the last 2 times I saw her when she did POY first ;) Next she did Last Dance Rodeo. Wait, let me switch to conventional set list format.... ;) NYA Last Dance Rodeo SIBTW Satellite Down So Long Love Me Just Leave Me Alone Don't Cold Song Foolish Games YWMFM Amen Encore of WWSYS I really enjoyed the performance. I thought it was 5x's better then when I saw her in Irvine at the Lillith there. The set was a pleasant surprise for me as well. I thought she really did a powerful FG and Amen. I thought the Encore was a little fake though...what I mean was that she seamed to just be going through he motions. The band came on about 10 or 15 seconds after she left and it just seemed odd :\ Oh well. Finally Sarah was next and boy did she ROCK!! I loved the performance and even liked it when she brought out her dog on stage for the Ice Cream song =) All and all it was a great concert experience for me. I was really glad to get to meet all the new EDA's. Brian drove all the way from Louisiana, that's some drive for a new EDA but I am really glad he made it, too bad that we didn't get to see him afterwards...guess we goofed on the meeting or we just missed him =( He is a super guy. Amber and Mindi were also new to the EDA thing and it was great to be a part of their first EDA event. They are a great pair of sisters, Mindi definitely takes up for Amber when it comes to talking ;) I finally got a few words out of Amber later though when we did the group shot outside after the show :) Karyn was awesome. I think I got her hooked on Tara MacLean though ;) But that is a good thing =) Its too bad that she had to baby-sit the next morning but it was great getting to met her, she is a great gal =D Stacey was a super person too. Thanks to her I got to see some of the Happy Rodes CD's. I had no idea what a cool artist she is. And Stacey was kind enough to let us stay at her place briefly while we all watched some video's that I brought. I only got to see Will briefly but he is a really nice guy, I just hope that he can stay longer next time. Carrie was lovely as usual, man is she different when Bill isn't around ;) It seems that I just can't get together with Carrie after any EDA events though, but we missed her afterwards. Finally there were my buddies Derrick, Sean, and Tien. We were the posse this time around. These are some really cool guys let me tell you. Tien can give you lessons on how to find closer seats by asking all the Lesbian and Gay guys if he can sit next to em, and Derrick will show you how you can get your car searched at 4 in the morning by the police anytime ;) Sean was my hero and let me crash at his place for a whole 5 hours till it was time to hit the road. Hopefully he will subscribe to the list soon, he is an awesome guy. Well I was happy to say that I was able to circulate 9 Tara tapes and 8 Jewel tapes this time around. I love to be able to get music in the hands of people that really love it =) I hope to have my pics developed and scanned by Friday or Sat and I may be able to get Eric to put em up on his site, I think there will be a ton of great pics of all the artists with the great seats that he had. From the little bit that was played in the movie it sounded like it was really cool and I got all hyped when I heard there might be a re-release of the soundtrack. So if anyone has any information (Mike, don't let me down here. j/k) let me know, please. The CD single is retailing at an amazing 99p (except the profit mongerers at HMV who are selling it =A31.99). I checked out the single but for some unknown reason didn't buy it. The two extra tracks (the names which I don't recall but I guess they'll be the same as the US release) were both under 2 minutes in length. Pretty poor effort as UK buyers expect better value when it comes to non-lp bonus tracks. A CD single coming in at under 10 minutes is considered a rip-off over here. Unfortunately East West records who handle Jewel over here have a roster which favours dance music so the promotional team is unlikely to have the capability of marketing something like Jewel. Two other Atlantic artists, namely The Lemonheads and Fountains of Wayne have performed poorly in the single markets after releasing three singles each. Still, for Jewel i'd say 53 is a good chart showing. It shows there is at least some interest. I'll get the CD single this weekend if I get the chance. On the negative side this sad country is getting very excited (?) about Oasis. Their new album is released on August 21. I will NOT be buying it on the principle that I hate arrogant, brainless assholes who have an amazing ability of ripping off other people's songs. I called Farr to wake him up so he could drive all the way down to Houston from Tecumseh, OK. It's only a little 7 hour drive :) So 11:30am strolls around and I better get going to meet Farr at the mall next to the place where they were having the concert. I get there around 12:30. Farr finally shows up at 1:30. Cool! :) We decide to get something to eat. I offer to buy lunch. I ask him what he wants to eat. I tell him anything but chinese food. Especially anything that has rice in it. Yuck! I hate rice! heheh *KIDDING* :) We finally decide on getting some burgers. We probaly waited like 30 minutes just to get to order our food. Then it took another 20 minutes or so to cook it. It was cool cuz we got to talk about stuff. What stuff? Like how Nancy Morales got back stage at the Irvine Show to see Jewel and how she can talk her way into anything. And how she got to see Jewel at the Jay Leno Show when she didn't even have tickets to it. Whoa...now that is cool! Anyways, our food is finally done!!! Farr gets cold fries and complains to the girl who works there and demands hot fries! :) She doesn't really want to make new ones for Farr cuz she has a whole line of customers and she is the only one working. She rolls her eyes at him and grumbles under her breath while she makes new fries. I think she said something like this " That **bleep** little piece of **bleep** **bleep** *bleep**" :) (Insert obsenities where the bleeps are) :) We finally get our new fries and sit down and eat. Oh..no...it's almost 3 now and we better get to the concert and meet the other EDAs. We got to the gates of the concert and they start searching Farr's bag. They won't let him in with the camera he has. No zoom lens are allowed :/ He has to check the stuff in with the staff peopple. But....Farr goes to another gate and finally gets in with his cool camera! :) We try to look for other EDAs but see no one :/ We walk around the place looking for anyone who has a Jewel T-shirt. Farr spots someone and goes up to them "Are you an EDA?" The girl says "A what?" and then looks at him funny :) Farr and I go to the Nettwerk booth to meet Jay (Works for Nettwerk..which is Tara Maclean's Label and Sarah's too, he will be at all the lilith fairs so if you see a Nettwerk Booth. Go up to him and say that you are an EDA and say "Hi") Whoa...he recognized Farr from the Irvine Lilith Fair. Farr tried to get Jay to give him his back stage pass but no luck :/ Farr did get a free CD though :) We searched around an hour? and still no one in sight :/ Oh..no...we aren't going to find anyone. Then I finally see Derrick (Damn him for getting 5th row seats ;) :) ) and his cousin Sean!!! Woohoo!!! I yell out his name but he didn't hear me the first time. Damn it Derrick (Damn him for getting 5th row seats ;) :) ) you are deaf! ;) :) Derrick (Damn him for getting 5th row seats ;) :) ) shows us where Stacy and Karyn are. Cool! more EDAs :) We all go searching for more EDAs and finally get to Brian. Cool again :) Some of us split off and it's now just Derrick (Damn him for getting 5th row seats! ;) :) ), Sean, Farr, and I. We go to see Alisha's Attic on the second stage. At first I was like "Who are these people?" They were pretty good :) We walk around looking for more EDAs. I spot two girls wearing Jewel shirts. It's my turn to bug people if they are EDAs :) "Are you an EDA?" The girls say "A WHAT?" then i get the "What the hell are you talking about" look from them" :) It was worth a shot though :) We go searching around either after or before the Lisa Loeb set and find two girls wearing EDA shirts!! Cool! It's Mindi and Amber. :) I forgot which one was which. One of them was really quiet and the other one was really hyper. :) "Without you....Everything falls apart Without you....It's not as much fun to pick up the pieces"-NIN ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 06 Aug 1997 09:22:03 -0500 (EST) From: SM_KARTALOPO@ACAD.FANDM.EDU Subject: LR Tour...Tammy & Robs, and then Selena & Tom P's... all i have to say is... sizzle sizzle sizzle sizzle sizzle sizzle baby that's what i've got... damn i love that song!!!!!!!
