This question was asked, I think at Jewelstock, and while she was at a gymnasium she, along with Lenedra, measured her height (sans elevation devices) and I believe, but am not positive, that they were both 5'4". Come on, one of you other "ol' fogey"s out there should remember. I didn't save that thread, or at least forgot about it if I did. And I don't feel like digging through the archives. Hey, would it be possible to put a search engine on the archives? Anyway, Jewel is short; at least shorter than me, and shorter than a lot of people judging by some of the pictures in the yearbook. I can confidently say that she is shorter than Shelly. - - ... because some people still care - -- Blessed Be - ---tom "I wouldn't mind dying -- it's that business of having to stay dead that scares the shit out of me." -- R. Ok, so this is my first time ever to post to this list, so I hope you all enjoy it, and I thank you all for reading it. I first learned of the EDA's throught my next-door neighbor, Selena "The List Goddess", a little over a year ago, at the time of Jewelstock. This past fall, some of you may remember, Jewel gave a concert at Temple University (which is the school I attend). I got many of the attendees of the concert tickets to the show. It was my first official EDA event, and I even had the honor of having silver paint pen explode in my face!!! It was so much fun! Now that Tom Proven (I love this guy) is staying with Selena and her family, I have heard more and more about all you wonderful people. It was not untill I met you that I actually believed all they said was true. I had always heard what a fun, caring, and crazy bunch you all are, and now I know that it's true. I attended the Jewelstock reunion at Bearsville, and had the best time of my life! The friendships I made are sure to last for such a long time to come!! All of the EDA's freely accepted me as one of their own, and I feel as though my extended family has multiplied about 50 times. So, I became an EDA (although many believe I always was one..and just never knew it). I attended Rob and Tammy's Living Room Tour this past weekend. Ali Fraser and I drove up early Saturday morning, and spent the day at Rob and Tammy's. They are such nice people. We played with the kittens, and had a great time. The show started a bit late..but it was all worth it! As everyone else posted, these 2 artists are terrific! We headed home for PA pretty early on Sunday morning, but luckily we avoided much traffic. We even brought an extra passenger back! Steve came along back to my house for the afternoon till we went to the next Living Room Tour. When we finally got there, we saw that the setting was beautiful!! The concert was again great! Tom Proven had a drum solo...that would have been nothing had I not been keeping the main beat for him on my drum!! But anyway, we did make quite a procussion section! After the show we all talked and said our sad good-byes. I am now more excited than ever to be attending the Livng Room Tour which Dennis and Alan are hosting! I am so grateful to have met such wonderful people. I can honestly say, that the EDA's are the most caring and compassionate people I know, and I hope to know them for years and years to come. Till we all meet again...Sunshine and Rainbows!!! Kim (a.k.a. That's true, we owe it to Mike that this list is still up-and-running. I'm not trying to create more useless emails to clot up the system but I just want to show my appreciation on the generosity and tireless spirit of Mike Connell. I hope every EDAs can help to make his job easier by posting less relevant emails (private email if possible) and also take other people's feeling into consideration so less flaming can occur. There is no listing of it in my TV guide. Is it only >being tapes today and gonna be aired on PBS later? Please respond. >Later, > Sean Hooks Thank you for playing! In response to your only question: yes. Austin City Limits is taped first and shown later. The current taping season will be premiered in early '98. The current broadcasts are repeats of season 21, which was first broadcast in early 96. If you feel cheated by the high recurrence of repeats and limited performers, then contribute. It's PBS, after all, and they run on a minimalist budget. But back to Jewel. It seems you have been misinformed about Jewel's appearance. (appearance? is that the right word? instead of 'perform', or 'play'? she's a musician after all, not a face.) KLRU has a phone 'hotline'(??) for ACL information at (512)-475-9077. It presently will duly inform you that no one is playing presently. The message is changed depending upon performances, and will play for several days, up to one week, before the musician plays, in order to be fair to potential audience members.(Tickets are free). Secondly, to verify, I went to the studio a few times today to check(KLRU is on-campus). None of the studios were in motion, i.e. none of the trimmings of production setup or disassembly were in order. The information services of ACL claim no one is yet playing, and the studios back up that claim with their silence. I will look into it, but I doubt that she will be playing ACL this year. First, she is currently touring, and with the exception of a few one-day breaks, the only break she has is 8 days from the 21st to the 29th. (Hey, Grammar Ninja, if she plays then, I'll make sure we get in.) But secondly, and less palatable for such a mailing-list, is the unlikelyhood of Jewel appearing on ACL at this stage. No insult to her music, but she has only produced one album so far. ACL usually books performers with longer, more productive, and more influential careers. I think Jewel will play ACL, and perhaps soon, but not this summer. till then. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Aug 1997 21:32:29 -0700 (PDT) From: Raymond Wong Subject: Re: Jewel's height 'Tom Harris' wrote: > I was swimming in a sea of bliss when CHRISTINE CHEN spoke... > :-> he was pretty much taller than him. and he's only about 5'6" or > :-> 5'7" so I'm guessing that she is probably 5'7" or 5'8" without > > wear them a lot, doesn't she?) I don't feel like searching the archives either, but if memory serves, back in much earlier times, Jewel and Lenedra both measured 5'5 3/4" (that's 5 feet, 5 and 3/4 inches)... call it 5'6" :) Ray Wong PO BOX 6163 negativl@best.com, negativl@netcom.com Hayward, CA 94540-6163 Member #11537, Deborah Gibson International Fan Club Co-Founder and Charter Member, Sutton Foster International Fan Club ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #629 ***************************
