Greg ------------------------------ Date: 4 Aug 97 23:02:54 +0100 From: "Chris Groves" Subject: YWMFM in UK Charts YWMFM failed to enter the UK Top 40 singles chart yesterday, I believe it entered the charts at number 53, this is behind WWSYS's peak of 52 earlier this year. And like WWSYS I expect YWMFM to disappear from the charts next week. When YWMFM was released to the radio stations about a month ago I was quite confident that it would do reasonably well. It seemed to be getting a fair amount of airplay. But in the last two weeks it appeared to have just vanished, I heard it played just once in this period. It also didn't help with the release being delayed by a week, as what little promotion it got, eg an HMV ad in NME and the VH1 appearances, were aimed at the earlier week. We can only hope it will be third time lucky with Foolish Games, but I think this is going to require a lot of effort from Jewel and her promotional team. If it is released at any other time than in the middle of Jewel's European tour then I'm sure it will, sadly, be another failure. I believe it's going to require some major prime-time TV performances from Jewel over here. Unfortunately there aren't really any programmes on UK TV where up-and-coming artists can appear, especially on the two main channels. Yours pessimistically Chris. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Aug 1997 17:22:16 -0400 From: N4SIR@webtv.net (Donny Emmert) Subject: UPS SUCKX i've been trying to get my hands on the new jewel vinyl and i ran into a huge problem...the shipment to the record store comes in UPS and they are on strike now. they dunno when they will get their 10 copies of POY...this is so frustrating..donny ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Aug 1997 18:46:12 -0400 (EDT) From: TXWave84@aol.com Subject: Re: jewel-digest V2 #624 Can you please take my off the list? The beginning. wake up. Call Abel (the quiet angel) and ask him if he has decided to come with us... unfortunatly for us and him he was sick (awww poor little guy ;) John ("thats with an H") hickey, Aka shallowend comes to pick me up right on time (EDA.. on time... never thought i'd hear THAT in one sentence ;). i search around my house for any forgotten items. i decided to pass on the extra set of clothes because stupid me thinks i'm not going to stay overnight at tammy and robs house (why havent i learned my lesson by now??) We leave, hit the road.get to tammys after about an hour of driving. We pass Cindy street and elizabethtown and declare that it MUST be a sign.we get to tammys... We see rob already getting the alcoholic beverages ready for mass consumption. We eat ("humus? whats that?"). We laugh. We play Connect four ("harvard vs. F.U. this will be quite a match") We drink (Katherine: "Wow, have you become legal since we last saw you in march?") Tammys sister shows up ("Hi tammys sister!"-everyone) We play bacci ball (I WON!! TEAM HARRIS LOST, I WON. I RULE. YOU DONT ;) I have officially assigned Dennis to take my place in the bacci ball world champion game at the LRT in cape cod. Cindy, Elizabeth and Jared show up ("Theyre 3 hours late... Jared must have been driving" :) the girls get settled and have a little dinner. people flock around elizabeth (who is seriously one of the sweetest people i have ever met). While they are eating we do a soundcheck with lauren bond on vocals and someone (chris?) on guitar. The show: Elizabeth played first tonight (they alternate nights). she was awesome... The connection this girl has with her audience is astounding. her intimacy factor is way up there and is what i imagine jewel must have been like before the fame. Elizabeth will look you right in the eye when shes playing, its incredible. She played "Goodwill store" which is, as she calls it, her "Famous EDA song". because it was written about Jewel and steve. she took requests, i asked for "the sun went splat (aka the condom song)" and someone else asked for "tornado" (she took my request but played tornado sometime later that night.) She was wearing Jeans with cutoff frilly bottoms, a black tank top and she was bearfoot, i'd like to state right now that both of these women are incredibly gorgeous. We found out that she has a prefferance for candles at her concerts (good call rob), I was front row, about 3 feet from the girls as they were singing. it was perfect. We took a short bathroom break after the first set. we found the wine. we talked with cindy in the kitchen (Rob... or was it dennis?: "Dont frighten the artists") and then we all took our seats. Cindys set included some very intertesting instruments, toy pianos, casio pianos, Bongos, toy percussion instruments (we'll get to that later), and can i now officially concider Cindys hair to be a part of her live show? she really gets that grooving. Shes a great dancer too... she took full use of the "campbell and crashboy made starrynight curtain" there was a red light behind the curtain, and the regular house lights were turned off. Cindy jumped bnehind teh curtain during a song that i am not remembering at this moment. she did this sorta strip dance for us, it was cute, then she came out from behind the curtain (she was giggling) and started to dance around the limited area that was her stage, she danced over to the candy dish and did a dramatic swoop to pick out a hersheys kiss, and then gave it to me (highlight of the night #1). when cindys set was done we took yet another break, by this time i was a bit inebriated, so i being oh-so-smart took a vivarin which i brought with me... hmm... Alchohol=Sedative Vivarin= Stimulant.... It'll all balance itself out, right? ;) The set of cindy and elizabeth together started and i was feeling better, if not much more awake. I must say that as amazing as these two girls are alone, their emotion, energry, intimacy, and power are only strengthend and extra reinforced when they are together, they seem to feed from each other. looking at each other, and giving signals, it was very awesome. you can tell these girls are best friends, at one point Elizabeth was standing and singing and cindy was sitting down doing harmonies, elizabeth bend down and kissed cindy, i think the whole audience went "awwww". Cindy tells amazing stories, her favorites are from her highschool band "The Stoopuds", she tells the story of a young girl, Diane, who used to be a young man named Glen (this is an amazing song, lyrically and musically, definetly one of my favorites next to cindys "season of the witch") Cindy told a story about her 6th grade band, it was an all girl band, and none of them except cindy knew how to play an instrument, so she had them all play percussion instruments, then she handed out some toy percussion instruments to the 4 girls in the front row (Me, laura marion, Linda and... mitch, he was an honorary girl for that day. i played rattle) she showed us the beat. we played the beat, sorta. we chanted "Bombay" (or was it pompeii like rob said?) They sang a song that cindy wrote over an old skip in a beach boys album "She wont even try, she wont even try, she wont even try...." When it was over i was very pumped up, i asked rob if we could take the Living room tour posters from the wall (they are awesome by the way). I got out my black rollerball pen (which i have grown very attached to) and asked elizabeth to sign my poster, she did, i had to spell my name out for her of course but thats okay... then i let her use my pen to sign everyone elses stuff. later elizabeth gave an "unplugged" concert with her dulcimer on tammys porch (25 people, one small porch. lets do the math...) (did anyone get that on tape???) i walked back and forth from the living roomw here cindy was sitting, to the porch where elizabeth was playing. cindy is really awesome... she signed stuff for like 2 hours. They went to bed after about 2am, dave, linda, rich and i were still playing hackeysack in the living room ("i'm such a hackeysack virgin"). we nearly killed eric a few times with my lethal kickball stratagies. dave decided that i deserved teh nickname "giggles". everyone settled down and decided to sleep except for a select few (linda, dave and i) since i was still under the influence of a vivarin (the alchohol had worn off rather quickly somehow) we went outside to play a nice game of 3am badmitton. with no net... and no light. we then discovered the garage light... linda and dave sang me what felt like the entire Rocky horror picture show... we sang abit out there (linda and I:"You paralyzed my mind, and for that you suck"... dave: "wow, that made total sense" me:) the other two deicded that it wasnt worth getting bit by bugs and freezing so we went inside. Bill Stripped down to his bare boxers, with the open fly, and gave some of the girls massages. after everyone decided that there was no way to shut us up they all proceeded tyo teh living room, leaving dave, linda and i with "the worm" couch... the most comfortable piece of furniture this side of the planet. We all curled up in it and I tried to keep them from falling asleep. we threw blueberried into each others mouths and when dave pretended to drift off he left his mouth open... and how could i resist putting a hot tamale candy in his mouth (hehe) linda and i talked all night. it was pretty cool... then we found a POY songbook, and in a moment of complete insanity actually thought it would be a Good idea to sing... at 5am!!! ( we woke up every EDA in the room next to ours... i'm sorry guys) and i later found out that we kept cindy awake... (i felt horrible about this) after awhile we got restless and stsrted watching people sleep, that was fun. steve woke up and got cranky with me, so i went to sleep, but not for long. when i woke up, like an hour later i found linda to be asleep, but most eveyrone else in the house, excluding cindy and elizabeth to be awake. at 11am i called my dad and asked permission to go to pennsylvania for selenas LRT (he said yes, the show was amazing, but i'm not going to post on it) at about 11:40 i decided that it was time for linda to wake up. so i went in to where she was sleeping and started brushing her hair, shes got very soft hair, and she woke up finally, after about 10 minutes of brushing. tammy got into the kitchen and started making her 10 foot stacks of pancakes. and we all settled down to watch fiona apple unplugged (Laura: "Damn shes so HOT!"). I went online with elizabeth hummel behind me. i asked her if she knew what that "red bone" thing was about and she was just as clueless about it as the rest of us. Have i mentioned just how much elizabeth rocks?? she discovered the kittens in the closet and then interviewed a few of the girls for an article shes writing about the LRT for Slamm magazine in San diego. (Katerina (campell child #2): "I like my jewelery, and ice cream, and my dolls.... and money") we all got ready to go either home, or on to pennsylvania. i rode with paul who introduced me to the music of Moonpools and caterpillars. we listened to Cindys rare "Naked movie star" album, which was made famous the night before ("Woah, Pornos!!!") we stopped at a rest stop to get a skinny wiener for rich . we got to Selenas friends house right after selena and tom arrived. and discovered the TRAMPOLINE in the backyard. This is gonna be the end of my post, because i dont think i could say anything about cindy and elizabeth that i havent already said. except that tonight Elizabeth was still bearfoot and wearing a short black summer dress that looked astounding on her. and cindy had on cute frilly little girl socks. here are some fun facts about LRT, Quotes, people and anything related: "Oh my god!!! youre so cute!!!!" I have noticed that many men were attracted to carter last night ;) Dennis:"Its easier to get forgivness than it is to get permission" (I love that dennis!!!) Cindy and elizabeth were on the trampoline with us Elizabeth gave me a hug in the kitchen, she smells like Lemon. I think i freaked quite a few people out thats all i think. sorry for the long post, but i know people get annoyed when i do multiparters (but hey ast least i didnt do an "Alphabet string post") Thirza "The punky kid"-(thanks chris) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Aug 1997 19:52:34 -0700 From: Frances Hirst Subject: NJC:Mike Millerick Sorry to post this guys!!! had a great time at rob and tammy's Living Room Tour stop. let me tell you all about it. first off, i had to work all weekend, but i wanted to hang out and spend time with the EDAs, so i worked friday until 7:30pm, and went over to their place soon after, which came in handy since they only live 20 minutes away. so, i got there, took a refreshing shower after a sucky day at work, then hung out with rob on the back porch drinking beer, while tammy went to the store. incredibly hungry, i decided to eat a cookie, but cookies aren't complete without milk, so i got a glass of milk. yummy! then tammy came home, we decided to order some Domino's, then ate the pizza when it came. we waited forever for dennis to come along, but had fun in the meantime with arts and crafts night making the curtains for the show the next day, playing with one of their cats' new litters (awww, how cute!), and of course, chatting on the computer. i also got to watch "Spicy City" on HBO, and dammit, why can't i have HBO? oh well. dennis and chris (cleocrazy) finally arrived at 1:45am, and were soon followed by mr. bb, amyjo, mike, bill (dawgboy), akira, crunch, and skinny pete! it was a jewelstock reunion again! woo hoo! soon, everyone else showed up within the following hour. i think there was ali, kim, laura, rich, linda, john, jared, thirza, lauren, stacey, bryan, kathy, tom, rachel, steve, bill, anthony, russ, paul, steph, amy, and if there's anyone else i forgot, sorry. we all partied into the wee hours of the morning, and before we realized it, the sun had come up. woo hoo! up all night, sleep all day! that's the EDA way! :) so, we figured, why sleep now? and i had so much fun with everyone, i called up work and told them i quit. so, we kept going and ate at the international house of pancakes again like we did for the Great EDAdventure. oh the memories. but we were disappointed cause farr, mia, dan, tim, erica, gian, dave, and adam weren't there this time around. so we made a little wish, clicked our heels five times, and suddenly, they showed up! high fives galore went around. the employees were all pissed cause they had to make an extra table. but we felt bad, so we gave them a hammer, a saw, and some nails, and they made a new table for us. cool! after breakfast, we decided to go to great adventure again. hey, why not? cindy lee and elizabeth weren=92t supposed to arrive =91til 12 noon, and it was only 11am, so we decided it would be feasible. cool! so we went and drove to great adventure, but suddenly decided it would be funner if we went and played paintball at the paintball field near great adventure, so we went. since there were so many of us, the owners felt intimidated, and we demanded that they let us rent and play for free, so they did. cool! so we went and tried shooting each other, and many EDAs died, but Amy the Blue Llama priestess used her healing powers on us again, and we just continued to shoot each other all day. cool! then around 7pm, cindy lee and elizabeth showed up at the paintball field and asked "where the hell were you?" and we said "oops." we apologized and went back to rob and tammy=92s house were we ordered more Domino=92s. so in between eating pizza and taking showers, we finally got the concert going at 12 midnight. cool! since cindy lee and elizabeth are night owls, it wasn=92t too bad for them. they played lots of songs. around 2am, there was a knock on the door. so we all wondered who the hell was knocking on the door at 2am, y=92know? well, cindy lee said "oh, you might want to get that." but rob said no cause it might be some loony, and since rob didn=92t want to do it, no one else would. so elizabeth said that we were all scaredy cats and went to open the door. we all protested and some even held her back, but she knows some judo and kicked all our asses. so while we groaned in pain, elizabeth opened the door, and who should it be but steve poltz and jewel! cool! quickly, all our pain subsided, but our limps were still noticeable. after many introductions, hugs, and rolling rocks, steve and jewel joined cindy lee and elizabeth to sing some songs. cool! they all alternated songs. some solo, some duets, sometimes three of them, sometimes four, but it was so cool! we even sang along with them at times, and they even asked some of us to sing solo. cool! we had so much fun, and before we realized it the sun had come up again! cool! jewel commented at how she had never seen the sunrise in new jersey and decided to go outside and watch it. so we all followed her onto rob and tammy=92s front yard and watched the sun came up. we were all in awe. it was so pretty. and since it was a Sunday, the local refinery wasn=92t operating, and there was no black exhaust smoke to obscure the view. jewel was so inspired, she wrote a song on the spot! it was beautiful. at this point, rob and tammy=92s neighbors wondered why 30+ people were sitting on rob and tammy=92s front lawn. about 20 of them came over, we explained the EDAs, the LRT, and why there are too many acronyms in the world. their neighbors were so enthused, they sat on the lawn while cindy lee, elizabeth, steve and jewel continued the concert on the lawn. as they kept playing, more and more people started showing up. by 12 noon, there must have been at least 500 people listening and watching, especially news crews and local police who were brought in to make sure things didn=92t get out of hand. by 8pm, the sun started going down and w= e had pretty much exhausted the four singers=92 song library of around 700 songs. it=92s a good thing dennis bought extra DAT tapes before he came. anyway, cindy lee and elizabeth had to go on to lancaster, and they were WAAAAAAY late, and steve and jewel had to go back to san diego. so after an hour of saying goodbyes, most everyone took off, while a few stayed to help out rob and tammy clean up the house and the front yard. it was pretty cool. when i finally got home, my boss gave me a call and said that i could come back to work if i really wanted to, so i have my job back. cool! so, that=92s the great story of rob and tammy=92s LRT. cool, eh? and who said there was nothing in NJ? heh heh. if you=92re jealous, then come nex= t time. :) eric :) - --=20 Crash Boy's EDA Page --- http://thespis.com/crashboy ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Aug 1997 21:52:30 -0700 From: Joe Subject: Pic Question & A Different Kind of Friendship Ring Hi guys...I'm pretty disappointed right now...I just got a picture in my e-mail and it has Jewel's name on it...The problem is, its a nude picture...I don't really think this is Jewel, as I don't think she would do something like this, and I've heard that she has not done this, but can anybody confirm or deny this picture? I will NOT distribute this picture to anybody, so please don't even ask! AND....I know we're supposed to cut down on posts and things, and this Friendship Ring is really neat, and Mike has made comment on ending the thread, but I was wondering if anybody out there is interrested in a real Jewel, or EDA friendship ring, or bracelet, or necklace, or whatever.....I know there are a lot of people out there that know how to make creative little things, and I think a piece of JEWELery would be cool...Hey..That was pretty cleaver too.....We can call it JEWELry....HA! Please reply in private e-mail to me on this...Thanks.. joe ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Aug 1997 21:07:53 -0500 From: BrianBC Subject: houston lilith fair Hello all EDA's I had the great fortune of going to the Houston Lilith fair, which I thought was fantastic, made so primarily by our own special angel. Her set was awesome, and I found myself getting goosebumps throughout her performance. The best songs in my opinion were Sometimes it be that Way and Foolish Games, but they were all great. But the neatest thing was after the show.......... A man approached me, just after I separated from Farr, Tien, and the rest of the EDA's that went-- he was from the Minneapolis, MN Star Journal newspaper. He wanted to know what I thought about it! Naturally I told him how much I enjoyed Jewel-- from the description I gave it probably sounded like she was performing miracles on stage or something ;). He mostly asked about who I liked the best, where I was from, why I came, etc. Most notably, I plugged you guys, especially those at the concert, who helped to make the concert all the more enjoyable. The Sunday, Aug. 17th edition of the newspaper will contain the interview he gave me, but I don't know if I was the only one questioned. The edition can be found online as early as Saturday night at http://starjournal.com. I'll be sure to post it on my website, as well as some pictures of the other EDA's there. P.S. If any of you guys are making a page for the Houston Lilith Fair show, email me at brianbc@geocities.com, or have any questions or comments, do the same. Again, this one was great, too! It was outdoors, and they had couches and chairs, and carpets out on the ground, and candles all around--very cool set. There was a trampoline that made friends with Steve :) and there was a hammock out in the trees--very comfy! Even the cats had their own house--I'm not joking! Everything about this place was cool! EH and CLB got there and started on time, I think--it was a great show, but Cindy didn't do the skip song :( I was looking forward to that! But it didn't matter--they were just there as good there as they were at Rob and Tammy's! When it came time to hand out instruments for people in the audience to play, Tom Proven got a drum of some sort. They were like "Ok, play this kind of a beat" and Tom's like "ok, sure"--well, that lasted for a little bit, and then Tom just busted out with his own thing!!! It was great!! He even got a solo! WOOHOO TOM!! EH and CLB had to leave right after their show--they had to drive 500 miles to the next one in Cincinatti! And I guess they weren't sure about the area and wanted someone to show them the way to the highway, so Mark and I drove them out to Rt. 30 so they could find there way out of there! They were so funny :) Afterwards, a bunch of us went to eat at Dempsey's Diner--for some of them, it was their first experience with Scrapple, and after they found out exactly what it is, they didn't want to taste it! And Jon kept us laughing, as always ;-) Then we departed and went our separate ways...all I have to say is that I can't wait for the Cape Cod show!!!!!!!!!!! I'll try to scan the article so I can get it as it appears instead of typing it all in. To those of you who are too lazy to find it, :) I will post it when I receive the paper, but it will be typed out. I've made many good friends throught this list and whenever I have a problem, I know that I can turn to the people here to help me get through it. This isn't just a list, its a family. A unit, if you will. If you take this away, we're nothing. Just a bunch of do-gooders who love Jewel. BUt together, we're much more than that. We're a group of people, fighting against all the bad things in the world. We're angels. If we let this list just die, we're not angels anymore, and we are angels, we're not quitters. Thats all I have to say. I hope this made sense because I'm tired and I'm sure I'm just rambling.
