I have been subscribed to the post for months now, but this is my first post. I suppose I should go back in time a bit to when POY was released. I was still in school, heading towards that huge corporate engineering multiplex. Yet I felt empty. In the deepest center of my heart I knew that I had always wanted to be a poet. Yet I was afraid. Of failure, of disappointment, of life in general. At a crossroads, I got in my car one day and heard it. "Who will save your soul?" At first, I went to turn the volume down, but I found that I simply couldn't. That song stuck with me for days. About 2 weeks later I read my first article on Jewel. I think it was then that I decided to stop surviving and start living. Knowing that she made it from van to VH1, and was actually living and loving what she did, finally showed me that sometimes we need to see what is important. I now work part-time to support my "starving artist" career, yet I finally know that I am doing what I love. In the midst of all the turmoil this list has been through, I sat silent, not knowing what to say. I have read the countless messages left by EDAs, and have come to feel at home with you. I don't know when, or if, I will post a second time. But I will be out there. Sometimes we don't appreciate what we have until we almost lose it. Hopefully, we don't come any closer to almost. It's simply illegally produced product. Considering the legally produced product they've allowed me to distribute to The EDAs, I would think its a no brainer to respect those wishes. Cost to own a listserv hi edas, i'm a lurker, but thought i'd post to reply to the how much to run a list question... Usually, the main problem is the price of throughput on a server plus initial setup. That's if you own a server. A server (Unix is the web standard - WinNT and Mac servers exist though) is a souped up machine with (preferably) and ISDN or T1 or T3 connection. Those connections cost large amounts of $ (call your phone provider for costs). anyone who wants more inof, email me privately - John (eljuanbobo@list.org) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jul 1997 21:27:17 -0400 (EDT) From: BUDdog21@aol.com Subject: NEW HI IM A NEW MEMBER I DONT KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEMS YOU TALK ABOUT PLEASE INFORM ME THANX BUDDOG ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jul 1997 21:16:54 -0500 From: mmilner@edgenet.net (matthew milner) Subject: tape trading page and list Hello angels, With the constant requests on the list for angelfood, I decided to undertake a new project. The basic premise I am borrowing from what was called the Prince Swap List. People join the list by filling out a simple form and mailing it to me. I then will compile the list amd will e-mail it to all interested. This is an ongoing project that I would plan to update and distribute monthly. I have also begun work on a web page that will feature the same information. I will include a sample of what to send me if you are interested. This is ony a sample, please do not request tapes from me yet, I don't even have a dubber (hopefully this weekend. I miss trading) If anyone has any questions, please mail me privately so as not to clog up the list. I have something to say...quite simple actually. This is to everyone who is thinking about leaving the list, and it seems for similar reasons. Tensions have been high...but this is what happens when you leave the list: 1. You lose contact and friendship with the GOOD EDA's, no matter how few...there are some, i'm sure of it! 2. By giving up the few good...you let people that you don't like...take control of your life. You are letting people not only hurt you....but dictate where and how you should spend your time. The way i see it...you should always do and be where YOU want no matter what surrounds you, unless it is a life threatening situation. One of my friends had very similar sentiments, Linda, as you do. She was tired of being back-stabbed and didn't want to come home for the summer. I said the same thing i'm telling ALL of you...you let a bunch of lousy people tell you where to be on top of letting them control how you feel. I AM NOT BLAMING ANYTHING ON THE PEOPLE THAT WANT TO LEAVE. I am not saying that you shouldn't feel hurt or insulted. I am saying that you should be strong, which you are perfectly capable of, since you post on the list about your feelings, that is a sign of strength. YOU should take control of what happens. There are good people on the list...one's worth staying around. Concentrate there...and ignore the rest...it takes time and effort...but it is certainly worth it. And you will feel better too! Well that is all i have to say on that...the choice is, of course, yours...i just hope you choose to be strong! PEACE, LOVE, AND HAPPINESS (There is one thing from the sixties that WAS real, and that should be in every decade!!! :) Eugene - -- =========================================================================== "For those of you who think there is no point, next time you breathe in fresh air, try not taking it for granted, and thank whatever it is that you believe in, even if it is nothing." - Jonders (an everydayangel recovering from broken wings) http://remus.rutgers.edu/~jonders ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Jul 1997 12:19:07 -0700 From: "Adrian du Plessis" Subject: NJC:California EDA Gathering? Hi Christy and all EDAs: If you count Salt Spring Island Canada as an honorary northern Cali town, then yes, there's going to be a big EDA gathering in about four weeks!! As part of the soon to begin Living Room Tour, Cindy Lee Berryhill and Elizabeth Hummel will perform on Salt Spring Island for a Northwest EDA-fest on Friday, August 29 -- that's to kick off the Labor Day Holiday weekend. Salt Spring Island is located in Canada's Gulf Islands, just north of the U.S. San Juan Islands (off the coast of Seattle, Washington), midway between the two British Columbia cities of Vancouver, on the mainland, and Victoria on Vancouver Island. The island has lakes, beaches, mountains, trails, deer, eagles, pigs, sheep, horses and all sorts of life and fun things to do. Cindy Lee and Elizabeth aren't the only Californians coming, so as we get things organized we'll try and arrange travel to be as easy as can be depending on where people are coming from in the U.S. and Canada (or beyond). When the Living Room Tour hits the Pacific Northwest, it'll be Indian Summer here on the island -- when the temperatures are mildest, the sunsets most colourful, the evenings long and the night sky filled with constellations that circle round the Jewel of the North star. There are accomodations neraby to suit all tastes and budgets, but since it's a holiday weekend the sooner people decide and let me know their plans, the better chance we have of making sure there's room for everybody. Right now bookings are filling up quickly but there's still camping, cabins, lodges, a motel, two inns... -- up the road (past the pigs and sheep) there's an amazing hostel that's situated on ten acres of old growth forest with a creek running through the heart of it. The site has three Indian tipis (tepees) that sleep four and a Winnie the Pooh-style tree house to stay in that sleeps two. There's even Eeyore, Piglet, Owl and a honey pot at the bottom of the tree. (The tree-house is now going to be the artists' quarters.) You can check out the tree-house and tipis at http://www.beacom.com//ssihostel/hostel.htm The main page of this site is at http://www.beacom.com/ssihostel I've already talked with the owners and, for those that are interested, we'd get members rates of CDN $14 per person per night in the tipis and CDN $20 per person per night in the tree house. (That's about US $10 a night in the tipis.) If you're thinking about attending on August 29 The Living Room Tour date during Indian Summerstock and please let me know ASAP who wants to come so we can organize everything (rides, carpools, boat schedules, accomodation, contributions/expenses etc. for the artists etc. etc.) Since Salt Spring was home to Tara Maclean when she was discovered singing on a ferry boat, I'm inviting some of Tara's fans to join EDAs for this special gathering. We may be few and far between in the Pacific Northwest but here's a rare opportunity to get together in a beautiful, natural, surrounding and enjoy the music of Cindy Lee Berryhill and Elizabeth Hummel and the company of angels. RSVP to howenow@imagen.net as soon as you can! Thanks. Directions & lodging/camping info will be organized and forwarded to all to make life easier. Look forward to seeing you all here! The Cindy Lee Berryhill / Elizabeth Hummel Living Room Tour stops right HERE next month! Tuesday, August 5, 1997 at our house in Greenfield, IN, the renowned duo from San Diego will perform a one-evening acoustic concert in our living room; attendance is open to all! After a successful couple of private appearances already in Toledo and Boston, you won't want to miss this one. I'm asking a $10 donation from each attendee, and I would really really like to have everyone confirm in advance if at all possible, to avoid disappointment. We'll probably have space for 25 people in our living room, and I don't want a SRO crowd because I want everyone to enjoy the show instead of being crushed like a sardine. :-) I'd like everyone who seriously plans to attend, to let me know by August 2. If we're short, that will give me a chance to entice some more people to attend. :-) I want to emphasize that there is limited seating, so if you're really serious about attending, let me know ASAP. I won't insist on advance payment, but it will definitely guarantee you a good seat. :-) *** UPDATE *** So far (29 July) I have 10 confirmed attendees -- 6 EDAs and 4 locals. C'mon, people, reports from their last tour indicate that this is an event not to be missed. Don't pass up a chance to see these talented performers before their star rises like Jewel's! Let's prove to them we can pack the house with cheering supporters and send them on their way to Liz's with the applause still echoing in their ears. Email me for personalized directions to the concert. There will be limited crash space available to EDAs who need to spend the night, first come first served. We'll do what we can to help everyone out. Just my idea... :-) Alexis Hello angels! Well I was wondering- what if we decided to close the doors and not let anymore angels subscribe? Just for a little while- long enough for us to become closer and get this list more in control. Because I think we should first repair ourselves, before we let others come in- because the new people will just get even more lost. This is just a suggestion- and I don't know if it'll work- but what do you angels think? love always 0=) Corey Amber P.S. Something in my mailbox is really messed up- I'll read the mail- I'll delete the mail- but every time I close the mail, everything comes back as if I had never even been there.....it's really weird- is this happening to anyone else? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jul 1997 23:07:26 EDT From: sparksmark@juno.com (Sparks the Everyday Angel) Subject: Re: NJC: suggestion? << Well I was wondering- what if we decided to close the doors and not let anymore angels subscribe?
