I was about to just reply to Rachel, but realized that if she's having trouble reaching me, others might be, too... I'm still getting list mail (: LOTS of it :) so I know I can receive, but it's possible there are other problems... I do copy a number of tapes for people, so if there's a problem reaching me, it's cause for my concern... While this isn't directly related to Jewel, I think enough of us are interested in the distribution of our angelfood that I'll beg for the list's collective indulgence for a moment. The first suggestion I have to make is that anyone needing to reach me first check the address they're using... I don't post often enough for most people to have a recent message from me to check, I suspect: One common problem I've found for people with whom I don't correspond regularly, is the spelling of my email address: negativl is spelled with an "L" at the end, not a "ONE" (I didn't mean it to be confusing, honest! :) While I can't guarantee ISP mail services being up, I try to make sure I've got reliable was to reach me: First, I do keep alternate mail addresses: in addition to negativl@best.com I can be reached at negativl@netcom.com and negativl@ccnet.com, or if need be, Raymond.Wong@etak.com (work). I generally list only the best.com and netcom.com addresses, as those are the ones I check most often. (they're also the busiest, however.) While each has had some problems, I've found they're both serious enough about staying in business that problems are rectified quickly. I am also In2DebG@aol.com, but I go weeks without logging in there, and they autodelete mail after about 2 weeks, so it's unreliable to reach me on AOL, even when their mail is working. I think maybe 3-4000 ppl? 1. Shawn Colvin. Seen her twice, and she is one of the best show(wo)men around. Similar to Jewel in introducing songs by way of stories of origins, likes to goof around with the crowd, and seems to be happy just to be playing. Could be Jewel at 40. 2. Harry Chapin. Yes, I know he's dead, but this is a dream list, no? One of the best story-telling songwriters ever. Also a performer who enjoyed interacting with the crowd. Worth it just to hear "Taxi" live. 3. Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band. Never got to see him in concert, except on video, and it seemed amazing. Wouldn't be the same in a smaller venue, but it might even be better. Who knows? Oh, and Little Steven would have to play with him, along with Nils Lofgren. 4. Peter Gabriel. I've only seen him in large arenas, but I can imagine the amount of energy and emotion he could put across in a small place like the Beacon. It would blow you away. And Paula Cole could be his backup singer again. 5. Jewel. She'd probably hate having to play the Beacon again, so maybe the concert ought to be at the Harbor. No band, unless it was the 'Burns, and then only for part of the set. She could just play "1000 Miles Away" about 10 times. Or not. 6. Dire Straits. Before Mark Knopfler got into this country music thing, he was one of the best songwriters around, IMO (he wrote Private Dancer for Tina Turner). If you've never heard any of their stuff besides "Brothers in Arms," (I want my, I want my, I want my MTV) I highly recommend "Love Over Gold" or "Making Movies." Seeing this group in an intimate setting would blow me away. 7. Finally, Sarah McLachlan. I'm so bummed that she got married. I was SURE she was waiting for me to walk up to her at Lilith and introduce myself. ...well, I still enjoy her music. My friend''s mom's comment upon hearing her: "She sings too high!" It's going to be held at the Woodlands Pavillion (just north of Houston off of I-45). Gates open at 3:00pm, show starts at 4:30pm. An EDA gathering is being planned for this and there are already several who either have tickets or plan on getting them. This won't be a huge gathering like some in the past, but just something where a few of us can join one another and have a great time while enjoying the concert. This is a list of the EDA's so far that have expressed an interest in attending (and most do already have tickets). As far as I know, all of the reserved seats are sold out. But there are still lawn seats left. They are $23 + service charge. It would be great if there were at least 15 EDA's at this. There will be 3 stages. A main stage, second stage, and an acoustic stage (for up-and-coming artists). Also many booths will be set up as well and an on-site Border's music store. The schedule for the various stages are as follows: - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Artist Time Start Time Finish Stage - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Gates open 3:00pm Katell Keineg 4:30pm 4:50pm Second Kelly Willis 5:10pm 5:40pm Second Lisa Loeb 5:50pm 6:25pm Main Mary Black 6:35pm 7:05pm Second Emmylou Harris 7:15pm 7:50pm Main Joan Osborne 8:05pm 8:40pm Main Jewel 9:00pm 9:50pm Main Sarah McLachlan 10:10pm 11:00pm Main Acoustic stage: Alisha's Attic and one other band will be on this stage that will be located inside the on-site Border's music store. Each set will be 15 mintues. Also, a Lilith main stage or second stage artist may perform on this stage, if so, this will happen within the first hour after the gates open. Jewel maybe??? :-) Keeping my fingers crossed. ***************************************************************************** * For anyone who would like to meet other EDA's and be a part of this * * gathering, we are planning on meeting between 3:00 and 3:30 at the food * * court on the right side of the main stage (looking at it from the front). * * I think there is some kind of fountain or sculpture (statue) there also. * * If not, then just go to the souvenir stand and we'll find one another...be* * sure to wear your EDA shirts too if you have them, and if not, then some * * kind of Jewel shirt. Why? because a few people I have apologized to are deciding to let me hang because they decided they don't care whether i apologize for saying some things - and they just don't want me in the channel but who is to decide where i can and can't go? it's bnot right since there are some people in there who want to talk to me... my other post was rather suicidal.. and i mean i do have feelings like i wish all of this at home and online would end... it's really hard and i hope i didn't scare anyone... i don't think i'm gonna actually kill myself but i do think that maybe i should talk to someone before i make myself too depressed and sick to think. Sure, it may be in a coma, but let's not jump to conclusions already! Come on, if we can find it in our hearts to respect others different opinions and if we REALLY have to flame we do it privately, then by golly...it just might work. I don't know if any of you ever did the BBS thing before the internet, but on those everyone cared and we didn't fight. In the words of Jewel , "Please be careful with me, I'm sensitive." OK take care everybody!! :-) Okay angels, I know a lot has happened since this topic came up last, and especially this most recent appearance, so I'll say it in so many words: The CD made of the Unplugged performance is an illegal bootleg and SHOULD NOT BE BOUGHT. Period. Neither Jewel nor MTV nor the hard-working people in either group earn money for sales of these illegal CDs, which are priced through the roof in the first place. Please, guys, I beg of you, don't support this business. Jewel and Lenedra have said time and time again that the bootleg CD business hurts their record sales. In the wake of the Bearsville reunion, which among other things celebrated the anniversary of a FREE concert given to us by Jewel, and the tapes of that concert, we all have to remember why we're here, and all the benefits that we've been given. I will be the first to admit I own bootleg CDs. But that was years ago, they are not of Jewel, and I didn't know any better back then. I'm sure most of us who have bought either of the two recent CDs didn't know they were hurting Jewel either. But to take this list, one we all forget to say thanks for every once in awhile, and talk about buying these CDs for other EDAs is wrong. I hope I'm not coming across in a bad way here. Like I said, this hasn't come up in a while and I know a lot of people didn't know the list (and Jewel's) policies on bootleg CDs. I know that when I joined the list, Jeff, our list owner, still limitations on talking about bootlegs on the list, as per Jewel and Lenedra's wishes. As Jeff has gotten busier this ban of the 'b-word' has kind of faded away. Yet as we've all noticed, things have been kind of hairy lately, and I think that we should try to behave as much as we can, to our own knowledge. Just my opinion. Please disagree, it's good for the environment... but disagree in private, please. My email address is tburke@mail.heidelberg.edu and I'll be glad to talk about anything I've said here. This means that there are multimedia portions of the cd including audio video and pictures. The cd can also play 9 tracks on any cd player. I'll take the first three people and then I'll start a list after that. The cd is as follows. 1. CIV "Can't Wait One Minute More" 2. Collective Soul "Smashing Young Man" 3. JEWEL "I'm Sensitive" 4. Dragamules "Send Away" 5. Rusty "Groovy Dead" 6. The Inbreds "Any Sense Of Time" 7. Sugar Ray "Rhyme Stealer" 8. Jill Sobule "Good Person Inside" 9. James Carter "1944 Stomp" Talk to you soon. The Unplugged material will likely see release anyway (with non-broadcast tracks &) in far better quality. My advice is to get the material free from your friends on the list for now. The JS tracks on the disc are simply taken from a cassette & the rest is from a VCR MTV tape so its not any better & ridiculously expensive.... as all ripoffs tend to be...... This is just a suggestion- and I don't know if it'll work- but what do you angels think? love always 0=) Corey Amber P.S.
