Hmmm... We already got a capable drummer in the family (Stinky). A lead singer would be VERY useful as well. I see a trend developing here. Living Room Tours: pound for pound , the best entertainment value in the country! Which brings me to the point of this post... anyone who wants to attend the Sunday, August 10th Living Room Tour show in Raynham, MA should RSVP me soon. Real soon. There is limited space and if you don't come, you'll regret it! ;-) And like Jewel says in that song, "my happiness doesn't depend if you come" that weekend or not (hey look everybody, JEWEL CONTENT!). Mr. BB and I are coordinating our shows together somewhat as they are on the same weekend and only an hour's drive apart. I guess that kinda makes it the tour's doubleheader! I also suspect that Cindy Lee and Elizabeth will save their voices and BEST shows for this weekend and sandbag at ALL the other shows (sorry Tammy, Tom/Selena, Jared, Liz, Greg, et al). Just a hunch. Cause we've... uhhh... we've invited CELEBRITIES to these shows, yeah, that's it! Big celebrities. Like Tiger Woods. No, I mean James Woods ("Jimmy" to his friends, like you and me). Okay, maybe Jimmy Buffet. I mean to say that we're having a BUFFET. Well, hot dogs. At least in Raynham. Hey, there are some real interesting list people coming. 'Nuff said. Be there and have the time of your life! And if you think you're already confirmed, don't be so sure -- remind me! Thanks. - -- Dennis (Straight Outta) Harris(ville) Fun Fact #1: You can't get to Mr. BB's Cape Cod show without driving through a town named "Dennis" or "South Dennis" unless you charter a boat. IT'S A FACT. Fun Fact #2: Mac Expo is in Boston the three days immediately preceeding our shows. Come see the Mac OS8 interface improvements that Bill Gates will blatantly rip-off for your next version of Windoze! IT'S A FACT. Fun Fact #3: All the Living Room Tour shows will totally kick butt, especially Tammy and Rob's in New Jersey. IT'S A FACT. For openers I'd have Ben Harper because I'm sure he could whip a crowd into a day long concert sort of mood in no time. Moving right along I'd bring in Sheryl Crow just cause she's cool Then we could have a little King Crimson ACOUSTIC set! Oh I know they'd never do it but it would be so amazing!!! That could move us right into The Dave Matthews Band. They could do half a set as a full band and the other half would be just Dave and Tim Reynolds. And how about ME stuck right in the middle there? I'd love to share a stage with my idols like that. And I could lead into ... (Forget this "jazzy" stuff, how about some REAL modern jazz pioneers?) The Pat Metheny Group!!!!! Oh man, I don't know what I'd do if I ever met Pat. I'd probably just burst out into tears and hug him. So yeah they could play a set as long as their hearts desired. Then the headliner: JEWEL! But there's more... She could play a super long set with guests. Think of the possibilities: Jewel with Ben Harper Jewel with Sheryl Crow Jewel with Adrian Belew and/or Robert Fripp Jewel with Dave Matthews Jewel with ME!!!!!!!! Or rather me standing in the shadow of Jewel trying to fight a nasty case of rubber fingers. Jewel backed by the Pat Metheny Group Jewel with Pat alone. The venue would be Toronto's Massey Hall of course because I'm a real stickler for good sound. Oh man I'm going to go book the venue right now!!! It looks good for Jewel to be featured as the musical guest on Austin City Limits on August 5th. This is a great show & is usually a full hour of music. This is not yet confirmed & it may take place on the 4th. Details are still being worked on. Jewel has been invited to perform again on Saturday Night Live on September 27th. Barring conflict with the first Japan Tour dates, this will likely happen. Regarding the rumored "movie deal". Jewel did recently meet with both Stephen Spielberg & Woody Allen. Both meetings went extremely well. However, her schedule prevented her from accepting anything yet. The meetings are primarily to help her get acquainted with the people and process. When the time and the part is right she will accept a role. More news as I get it. Opening up will be WALLY PLEASANT, who is a local, hilarious singer/songwriter. He has four albums out, the last of which went to #35 on the National college charts. He'll play all his show-stoppers ("Denny's at 4am", "Dead Rock n Roll Stars", "Stupid Day Job", "Lost Weekend Las Vegas", "The Day Ted Nugent Killed All the Animals"), but he won't forget to play some of the songs he doesn't play as much ("Restless College Years", "Disfuntionally Yours", "That's Evolution"). Second will be JEWEL, who will play half acoustic and half with band. She'll have the lead singer of the Rugburns out there to sing with her on YWMFM and "Old Lover's House". She'll play all the standards, but not forgetting "Adrian", "Love Me, Just Leave Me Alone", "Carnivore", and "Race Car Driver". Third will be COUNTING CROWS, who I have never seen live except for Letterman performances. I hear Adam Duritz is an amazing performer, and judging from what I've seen, I believe it. "Round Here" will be done with such emotion and power that I will have goose bumps for about a half hour. Fourth will be ALANIS MORISSETTE, who I have seen live and is a terrific performer. She'll play everything from JLP, including "Your House", plus "Can't Not", "Fake Plastic Trees", and "No Pressure Over Cappuccino." Fifth will be DAN BERN, a hilarious folk singer with a voice like Bob Dylan with a terrific sense of humor. He'll play "Marilyn Monroe", "Wasteland", and "Chick Singer", plus more from his album. Next will be ANI DIFRANCO, who has proven to be the second best performer I have ever seen live (read ahead to see best). She'll play "Both Hands", "Untouchable Face", and "Amazing Grace" and then the rest is up to her. And she'll tell stories. Next will be BRENDA KAHN, who I've never seen live but would love to. She'll play solo, and play everything off of her classic album Epiphany in Brooklyn. She'll also play, at the very least, "Egg on Drugs", "Wedding Ring", and "Too Far Gone". Lead singer of Sponge can go onstage to sing backup on "Too far gone." Up next will be LORI CARSON, who entranced me for four songs at Lilith Fair. She's superb, and would love to see more live. Next will be JANIS JOPLIN, who will come back from the dead to perform her classics. Her stage energy will be inspiring. Next up in the come-back-from-the-dead portion of the show will be JEFF BUCKLEY, who I'm convinced would be one of the finest performers I would ever see live. While were conjuring spirits, I'd love to see NIRVANA next. They'd play Unplugged, because I don't think they've ever been better. After a couple of male acts, we'll go back to the girls with a solo acoustic performance from SUZANNE VEGA. I'll be able to get so close that I can see every twitch of her guitar-playing hand. She'll woo my mind with "Luka", "Solitude Standing", and "The Queen and the Soldier", then on second thought we'll let a band come out to see her play "Blood Makes Noise". Next will be THE VERVE PIPE. They're awesome live, and I'll hear "The Freshmen", "Penny is Poison", "Spoonful of Sugar", "Photograph", "Villians", and a couple of Beatles covers they do so well. I've always wanted to see MELISSA ETHERIDGE live, and am convinced she is the kind of performer whose music is best appreciated live. Then, to make sure my 80's girls aren't ignored, I'd let TINA TURNER, DEBBIE GIBSON, and TIFFANY come on long enough to let them sing their hits plus maybe a few more. Then we can see some MADONNA. Last will be TRACY CHAPMAN, the finest performer I have ever seen live. She'll play at least 2 and a half hours, playing all her classics but not ignoring everything from Matters of the Heart. There we have it. I'm so excited! - -- Mark A. Miazga Michigan State University miazgama@pilot.msu.edu East Lansing, MI USA "During sex, my girlfriend always wants to talk to me. On which I'd like to politely disagree :-) I'd have to say that barring notable exceptions like the Sex Pistols (which have become a parody of themselves), Green Day and Rancid, Jewel has a lot in common with today's punk. DiY (Do it Yourself) has long been the standard lietmotif of punk in the 90's. What is more Jewel than DiY? The best punk this decade has been done by smallish bands in dank, dim lit clubs, playing their hearts out, spending their days postering and furthering their cause. ... But I grew up with punk, and ska-punk and now swing-punk... ...I guess I remember the days where beautiful, ugly guys in mohawks picked me up off glass shard covered floors laughing while dusting me off... ..maybe its just fond rememberances... ...so YMMV.
