If any of you know someone who drinks and drives, please forward this to them... DEATH OF AN INNOCENT I went to a party, Mom, I remembered what you said. You told me not to drink, Mom, so I drank soda instead. I really felt proud inside, Mom, the way you said I would. I didn't drink and drive, Mom, even though the others said I should. I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know you are always right. Now the party is finally ending, Mom, as everyone is driving out of sight. As I got into my car, Mom, I knew I'd get home in one piece. Because of the way you raised me, so responsible and sweet. I started to drive away, Mom, but as I pulled out into the road, the other car didn't see me, Mom, and hit me like a load. As I lay there on the pavement, Mom, I hear the policeman say, the other guy is drunk, Mom, and now I'm the one who will pay. I'm lying here dying, Mom. I wish you'd get here soon. How could this happen to me, Mom? My life just burst like a balloon. There is blood all around me, Mom, and most of it is mine. I hear the medic say, Mom, I'll die in a short time. I just wanted to tell you, Mom, I swear I didn't drink. It was the others, Mom. The others didn't think. He was probably at the same party as I. The only difference is, he drank and I will die. Why do people drink, Mom? It can ruin your whole life. I'm feeling sharp pains now. Pains just like a knife. The guy who hit me is walking, Mom, and I don't think it's fair. I'm lying here dying and all he can do is stare. Tell my brother not to cry, Mom. Tell Daddy to be brave. And when I go to heaven, Mom, put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave Someone should have told him, Mom, not to drink and drive. If only they had told him, Mom, I would still be alive. My breath is getting shorter, Mom. I'm becoming very scared. Please don't cry for me, Mom. When I needed you, you were always there. I have one last question, Mom, before I say good bye. I didn't drink and drive, so why am I the one to die? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jul 1997 13:41:54 -0500 From: gosiam@juno.com (Margaret E Milsztajn) Subject: Entertainment Weekly..... Of course everybody is entitled to his/her opinion and although they do make sense, I feel obligated to defend Jewel's position in this. Even though Jewel only has one album released and she may have be taken advantage by the media, do you think it would work too if Jewel becomes like Eddie Vedder instead and refusing all publicity and media promotion for her album? Remember that it's all supply and demand. Right now Jewel is very popular and no doubt there are many people who wanted more of her so magazines are just trying to fill the demand. Even if Jewel is sick of seeing herself on the cover of mags do you think she should stop being interviewed or photoed?? I don't think so. EDAs who have trouble w/Jewel's overexposure should just take it easy and enjoy the success with her and be happy for her. We all know that this kind of success don't last forever(not even Micheal Jackson can maintain it) and eventually only her most royal fans will continue to show up on her concert-like EDAs. A lot of EDAs think Jewel has control over her image but since this is her first time at fame we can forgive her for going along with her publicist or record company's desire. One last thing. Jewel allows the circulation of angelfood for a reason: so that EDAs can satisfy their hunger for her music. I've gotten angelfood not so long ago and I think it's more than enough to last my hunger for Jewel until the release of her 2nd album. Let's just be patient ok? The reason it says that is because that version of the song is off of the Batman and Robin soundtrack. And as you know, foolish games doesn't appear in the actual movie. So with all soundtracks that have songs taht don't appear in the movie but are on the sondtrack, they say "music from and inspired by." I totally recommend it. Wow woke up too early to see FG today! I got up at 6am just to catch it and taped it. It is pretty nice video. I like the colors of grey white and black they use. Jewel once again has the best clothes of any other artist! She kinda looked heroine-out in that video but i guess they were trying to conveigh the message of a fallen desperate angel with nothing left. I like how it was like a slideshow cause it sends a message of confusion. Should we buy a piece of Land on Mars for Jewel?? Build the first EDA Cafe on Mars? Plan our EDA gatherings in Mars? Set up another JPK fund so we can raise money for a spaceship to fly us to Mars? Wouldnt that be cool!!!! =) Well gotta go! Another useless post! Later Angels... - -Tony ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jul 1997 15:59:35, -0500 From: AMXD99A@prodigy.com (MISS ANAIS NIN) Subject: NJC: Death of Versace It's a shame that such a talented man like Versace was killed in such a horrible way. My good friend Blake Swanson was a model for his Versus line, so I'm going to call him and see if he knows anything. AmyJo & I wanted to check it out but were too pre-occupied during Jewelstock. Apparently, its built inside a huge silo somewhere. Maybe someone can call the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce & find out more about this? Another possible activity for this weekend at the reunion if its open?? This is the [as of yet] unlabeled Angel, Melissa, trying to not get too bored! Anyway, here are some thoughts for today... 01... _Jewel's Popularity_ I believe that once WWSYS was played on stations across the U.S., Jewel was no longer a San Diego secret. She's gaining more listeners everyday [FG!]!! But, unlike Alanis Morisette [she's great, except her stuff was popped into radio stations quickly and she hasn't come out w/ a new album in a long time -- the video doesn't count! :)], Jewel has done NUMEROUS side projects which keep her fresh. And besides that, she's going on tour so much [Lilith Fair] that she can't go into the studio. 02... _Melissa Recommends_ I think this is an awesome thread-like deal! Very cool!! Anyway, I *really* recommend TRaCy CHapMAn!!! Please support her! Her voice is so amazing and smooth and her lyrics are filled w/ emotion and pc messages! I think that the new one, "New Beginnings," is awesome, so where you are, if that's on sale, go out right now and get it! But, if you want, go get "Tracy Chapman" [her first album], which isn't too expensive [at all!]. You'll feel the power in her lyrics, I promise! :) Pre-requisite Jewel Content: Jewel mentioned how she's admired Tracy for a long time and how it was at honor to be on the same stage as her [@ Irvine Meadows, Lilith Fair!]! 03... _A Request_ If y'all could condense your thoughts into one post, it'd help those who get the loose mail -- that way they won't get too much! :) Danke, sweeties! 04... _Telnetting To IRC_ Anyone having trouble telnetting to IRC?! Well, I'll try again tonite, and maybe I'll join you in #jewel, as all of other people should [it's on Undernet!]!! :) 05... Thanks for listening, my angels! :) ~Melissa~ and if nothing can be done, we'll make the best of what's around ~djm~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jul 1997 16:02:22 +-100 From: "Shane ;o) NIN" Subject: HELP O.K. it's me again, hey I'm getting to be quite the regular here. I'm surprised and somewhat anger by all those what I perceived as a backlash against Jewel's rising popularity in recent weeks. It's true that Jewel is appearing on many covers of magazines (including TIME) and her videoes are being promoted on MTV and VH1, and as EDAs I assume we'll all be happy with her success and attention by the media. But instead what I heard (mostly) so far is how she doesn't deserve to be on TIME cover all by herself, that Foolish Games shouldn't be changed, that she should have several albums by now and maybe we should all just start listening to artists like Tara Maclean, who is like Jewel just starting out. Is it just me, or has everyone just turned into cynics and critics all of a sudden? I know that, back in the old days, Jewel was able to connect with many fans in more intimate venues like coffeehouses and older fans perhaps feel a little possessive toward her cuz they've known her music for a year or so. But I thought that as EDAs we should celebrate what she has accomplished in this couple of years: from InnerChange to cover of TIME. Her popularity is at the helm right now, and she deserves the attention that has been given to her. I believe that Jewel will not be "spoiled" by her recent popularity, like what she said in TIME, "People look at me in mags and feel as if I'm a phenomenon, as if what I've accomplished is beyond their ability. I tell them to knock it off.." I know that whatever happened to her, after the media has shifted their attention to some other hot new artist (maybe Tara?), I'll still be there, listening to her music, buying her album and hopefully attending her concerts. I'm very happy for Jewel right now, and I wish more of you can feel the same. P.S.-This is not meant as a flame letter, just an expression of opinion. 4 Ever EDA, Steven On 7/15/97 9:55AM, in message <01BC910D.A7380500@bwn.net>, The Infamous Bob B wrote: > Derrick wrote: > "I know alot of EDA's don't like all her extreme popularity now > (including myself), but be optimistic and realize that in a couple more > months, this will all be history." > > How can you be happy that Jewel's fame will be decreased dramatically. Anyway, when I got it home to play I noticed it was different to my original. The CD label is completely blue, the original is silver and blue with a picture of Jewel, from the waist upwards, jumping in the air. Also the duration of the CD is slightly shorter 58:32 as opposed to 58:55. It appears that this is due to the single version of YWMFM having replaced the original album version. The catalogue numbers of the two versions are New 7567-80705-2 Original 7567-82700-2 Are there any other versions out there? The album we are all patiently (or > not-so-patiently, in some cases) awaiting, is not coming out at a good time > for her label. Uhmm.. *raise of hand* It was her record label that pushed the album release date back. They are doing this just to soak money out of this current album. She already recorded a new one and could have had it out last year, but obviously they would rather get more money out of one album than try and get more money out of multiple albums. > Jewel, who not only has the all-important looks and style, > but also has that talent thingy, might still have been forgotten inbetween > records if she hadn't made all those tv interviews and magazine covers. Yeah, and everyone would be happy cuz we'd have her new album by now and then she'd be getting all these interviews n' stuff. ;> Gerrit ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jul 1997 17:03:11 -0400 From: Chris Phillips Subject: Re: New Pieces Of You CD I wondered if they were going to replace the original version of YWMFM w\ the new version.
