Unfortunately, what we thought we wanted isn't necessarily what was best for us. And sometimes what we get is what we asked for on an unconscious level. Deep inside, many of us are more used to pain or strife than love, so we seek it, unconsciously. We attract the same kind of people to us, over and over again, until we change the energy we are sending out. It's like when animals' smells attract potential mates. Above all, life gives us what we need. It knows sooner or later we will figure out what we're doing wrong. It's just waiting for us to get past that stage where we wonder why life is doing this to us. It's waiting for us to realize that's what we're asking for. For a long time I had almost-relationships. I would get involved with people who lived a million miles away and didn't really care all that much about me. I wondered why life sucked like that. Eventually I figured out that I felt safer that way because the person couldn't hurt me when they weren't there and I had a mere illusion of them. My unconscious was one smart cookie -- I knew that I'd been hurt a lot and didn't need anymore pain. But then I did some soul and psyche work. And spiritual work. And then I met Fizz. He treated me SO well. He was THERE. He was everything I thought I'd ever wanted in a man. But I wasn't happy. I blamed it all on him. I expected him to be perfect or something (much like I always expected myself to be perfect), and I almost blew it with him. Then God broke through. I let Him take charge rather than keep trying to do it myself. And suddenly there was all this sunshine in my life, because I chose to see it. I focused on the love rather than the flaws. Right now, Fizz and I are so happy. Everyday I thank God for all He's given me and all He continues to give to me. Fizz is better at the things that used to bother me too, because I stopped harping on them. We're planning on spending our lives together. I love him. And now I know that love isn't just hearts and cupids and rainbows. It doesn't go away (though it can hide). It's stronger than ANYTHING. It's the stuff of God. It's the thread of the Universe. Also, what about all the EDA's that requested them, and will never send the money to their branch? What happens to those picks? How long do we all wait? Orin Smith voice-mailed us yesterday with the horrific news that three Starbucks partners from the Georgetown store in Washington D.C. were shot to death late Sunday night. The store was locked and nothing was missing. Investigators have no motives or suspects except the possibility that a partner who was terminated earlier that night might have tossled with the assistant manager and shot all three partners in the head (one of them several times). As many angels know, I am a manager for Starbucks. Let me start by saying that Starbucks is kind of like a big family, almost a religion for partners in the corporation. We are extremely enthusiastic and good souled people, just like the EDAs. This tragedy for us is like losing three family members. Please take a minute or two today in silence out of respect and love for these three innocent human beings that were brutally slain. I just wanted to share with you all something special that happened to me thanks to the kindness of others on the list. A short time ago Larry Greenfield made an offer to any EDA's. He would purchase Joy Eden Harrison's album for you and send it out, all you needed to do was send him a check to cover all expenses. I was looking for something new to listen to and took him up on the offer. I mailed out a money order and a blank tape(he even made a copy of some angelfood for me) right away. About a week letter I got such a suprise from Larry! He had gone to see Cindy Lee Barryhill and ended up meeting up with Joy Eden Harrison. He showed her the note of thanks I had sent along with the money. She was so touched by the kindness of the EDA's that she opened my CD and signed it! She wrote: "Dear Laura, You make me proud to know the EDA's, Love Always, Joy Eden Harrison". You couldn't believe how happy that made me!! I couldn't stop smiling! So now I need to give you a review of the album. One word:WOW!! It's so beautiful, simply beautiful. Words can't do it justice, you all need to hear it! Joy's voice is amazing, the lyrics are full of emotion, and it's nice and jazzy, you can dance around to it. And I have to admit that since I'm lacking a dance partner currently, my cat has had to suffer through being whirled around the house ever since I got the album. :) If the opportunity is offered to you give Joy Eden Harrison a listen! You'll thank yourself! With Love, Laura PS- I want to once again thank Larry for his generosity and kindness, it won't ever be forgotten. :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jul 1997 18:01:42 -0500 From: gosiam@juno.com (Margaret E Milsztajn) Subject: Re: NJC: AAAAAH! *thump* You guys remember this post? (same percentage of dropout for some tape trees) Then those picks will be made available. There is no organized grace period to allow the money to come in, but I am recommending to the sellers to give the folks three weeks to have the money *received by the seller*. After that, the sellers can handle the left overs any way they want, either by reposting they still have some afterall, or by going back to the folks they turned away. It's up to the sellers how they want to do it. >And how many EDA's >signed up with ALL the branches...to get 36 picks!!! Is there a way to >check on this so this didn't (doesn't happen)??? I am not goint to worry about that. I posted to please not do that, and am going to go on the honor system. It's too much work to organize such an effort via emails between 6 sellers. We are talking 50 cent picks here, not bars of gold. :) Remember, we fully intend to order more picks. We weren't sure of what the demand was going to be, and I sure wasn't going to ask the people who fronted the advance money to front 2 or 3 times as much and then get stuck if for some reason we didn't sell out. Asking for EDA orders in advance of ordering the picks would not have worked for two reasons. 1) we had to work quickly, as at the time we thought we could get them in time to get Jewel's share to her by her birthday (didn't work out that way) 2) the expected dropout. We weren't about to take advance orders, get 2000 ordered and then have half of the folks not send in money. (Even though I fully feel we could EVENTUALLY sell 2000, I was not going to ask the investors to tie up 50 to 75 dollars in picks inventory, especially when it may take an unknown amount of time to recoup their investment to break even. (This is a break-even venture) This was the best way. Order a modest amount that we think would eventually sell out, see what the demand was, and if the demand was greater than the supply, we'd order more. My mother is in training now, and is going to most likely have a part-time job for a screen printer... I know there ahve been t-shirts made already for the List and everything, but I was wondering if anyone out there needed screen printing abilites for anything like a business or something. My mother can get you a discount I'm pretty sure, or at least a decent price. If we want to make another EDA shirt in the future, like an annual thing.. then we can do that too... As if i should bring a blanket and snacks and stuff, you know? But i figure its probably impractical. So my question is what type of preparations should i make for going? i'm an extremely thirsty person, so i like to carry my own cold bottled water and soft drinks. Should i expect to pay $10 forwater over and over again, or is acceptable to bring your own things? Oh! Also, i never got an email letting me know what to do in order to get my tape from the JPK Fund. Did i miss the boat? Subject: EDA picks: Kris Kane on the road in California Hello all EDAs, I'm in the final days of a fantastic two week trip to California, during which I've attended around ten concerts and met wonderful EDAs, like Larry, Igor, Crunch, John-Eric, Mandy, Sinjin, Tom, Nancy, Chelsea, Kaili, Ripiano and Karen Richardson. Sorry if I left anyone out. If you are interested in ordering EDA picks from me, I'll be back at home in Chicago around July 13th. When I get home, I'll post about all the great concerts I saw, including Cindy Lee Berryhill at Largo in LA, the Rugburns at the Whiskey in LA, Open Mic Night (hosted by Wendy) at Java Joe's in San Diego, Elizabeth Hummel, Joy Eden Harrison and Gregory Page, to mention just a few. There are so many creative singer/songwriters in the San Diego area. It's been a real pleasure to meet and hear them. The Living Room Tour and the Future Folklore tapes will be a great way for EDAs to hear first hand some of these talented artists. Until I return home, Kris Kane ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jul 1997 21:18:46 -0400 From: "The Bowman's" Subject: Jewel T-shirts I remembered that a while back there was something posted about Jewel t-shirts. It was right after we started ordering tour booklets. I thought that Lenedra was going to let us buy the extra shirts from Jewel's tour. I might be wrong though. Just thought I'd ask... ~Jennifer Bowman ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jul 1997 21:15:54 -0400 From: "The Bowman's" Subject: Lilith Fair... Hey Angels, I just went on the Lilith Fair site to check out who's playing in Atlanta, GA. My dad was going to take me since I've never seen Jewel live before, and because some of my other favorite artists are playing there (ex. Fiona Apple, Joan Osborne, Emmylou Harris, and Sarah McLaoughlin). Well, I don't think I'm going after reading some of their rules. They include: 1) No cameras or recording devices 2) No outside food or beverages (alcohol, anything else) 3) No outside lawn chairs (youmust rent one) Those are some of the dumbest rules I've ever heard. Well, we were going to drive from Florida and go spend the night. But I really don't think it's worth it now. After driving there, buying a ticket, buying food and drinks, t-shirts, hotel room, and whatever else, it's going to be way too expensive. I won't even really have anything to show of the concert (pictures) except a t-shirt and a ticket stubb. I just thought I'd share this info with everyone else. She asked a small audience that at the sound check during her last concert of the "tiny lights tour" to start calling radio stations and request her new single "Foolish Games" I told her that we were working on a Rugburn song, that Steve told me was released. Turns out that the song was not released. Anyway Jewel asked that we start requesting FG. The radio stations didn't have the CD yet, at the time so a few list veterans advised that we wait until now. For you newbies, Jewel is not only a favorite singer that we all share. She's a good friend to all of us! You may never have met her, and still she holds a special place in heart for you as an EDA. When Chelsea and I met her in Denver, Chelsea mentioned "Everyday Angels" and Jewel's face lit up like we were her family. Please, help our friend out by calling as many radio stations as you possibly can. When we call a radio station, we are not Everyday Angels or fans of Jewel in an unconventional way. We are fans of music, in general and a sample of the general population of listeners, and the song that we want to hear, is "Foolish Games" by Jewel. If you choose to call a radio station outside of your area, dial *67 first so that you make it immpossible for them to trace the call.
