Rave music is 180 BPM or more with background music. This music might fit that term, but not all techno/electronica is like that. Take Orbital, they are very intricate (sp?) and and artistic. They take light sounds and heavy sounds and combine them into one song. They are great. But they are just the tip of the iceberg. Now Rave music is very 1 dimmensional to some, but that is just a sub-category of "techno." Ambient techno is very, hmmm, delicate. But not always, it has it's beats, but it has more varying sounds and textures and it layers them all together. Since this isn't created to dance to, the artist can be a lot more creative and have more fun and expirement with different things. Some good Ambient artists are:Alec Empire, Orb, Torchsong, and Hardfloor. These are really just to start though, there is some great artists but techno is not commercialized so you'd have to look for them. I have more to say but since this has No Jewel Content and is already pretty long, I'll stop. Last night, I was really miserable, and I was praying intensely for guidance, and mid-thought, I thought "I should talk to the angels..." I think it was a sign from God, I really do. Anyway, after watching all the stuff on this list, all the people who love eachother and probably haven't even met, and even the fights... I realized I wasn't alone. I, too, have a sort of internet relationship going, and this Thursday, I'm supposed to meet him. My parents don't approve, at all. They even went so far as to say I couldn't talk to him anymore, but finally relented after I cried for two days straight. All along, he had acted the same, had told me he loved me no matter what, everytime I had talked to him. But, here's the catch. We're exchanging pictures, and he just got mine yesterday. Friday night, I didn't get to talk to him, because we had a family gathering, and I wasn't home. He sent me a really sweet letter, like usual, telling me he loved me and couldn't wait to see me. But, when I talked to him Saturday, no less than an hour after he got my picture, he was extremely distant. No more, I love you's...nothing. He doesn't even seem excited about coming here anymore. And tonight, we got in a huge argument, because he doesn't trust me. And, I asked him why he'd been acting distant. He just said that he wants to wait to define our relationship until after we meet (which is what I've been saying all along). But, he's never actually agreed to that until now. And, it was a complete switch from how he's acted for the past few months. I still don't know what to think about it, even though he's still saying that he just realized I was right all along. I feel like I'm being accused, because he doesn't trust me...and that I'm being pushed away because he thinks I'm ugly. (this kinda fits in with that whole attraction/looks thread that was going for awhile) I don't want him to come here if he thinks I'm ugly. I can't spend a week with him, knowing he thinks that. Is this wrong of me? Am I jumping to conclusions? I know that you guys probably don't have any direct answers for me...I just really needed someone to listen. I also know that I left out a lot, if I'd put everything, this post would have been even longer. If you need any help just E-mail me. I'd be happy to help where I can. If you're not used to playing barr chords, they can really give your hand a fit(hurt) at first. But hang in there! If you stick with it (that means practice every day), you'll build up the strength in your hands and it will become easier pretty quickly. Hurts like hell and sounds terrible at first though. So don't let it discourage you. We all went through it. Trust me, it does get easier and mastering barr chords will open up a new world on the number of songs you'll be able to play. Keep it up!! BTW, and if you have already figured this out sorry, but if you'll notice in the 1st figure below, that if the chord were moved down two frets, you would have an A minor chord. (of course the barr part of an Am is the nut) The great thing about barr chords is the transportableness (is that a word? :)) of them. If you move it up one fret, you have a C minor and so on. Essentially, all your doing playing a barr chord is replacing the nut of your guitar neck with your first finger. I also included an F# major barr chord as well. Notice if it is moved down two frets, you are playing an E major. Many chords are easy to barr and move like that. Have fun and let me know where I can help. I am sure that if you bombard her with enough boxes of pudding mix that she will even compose and sing a song for you!!!!!!!!! Abel ROsario, who i hear is ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS, will be there. You, too, can enjoy his unique and awesome sense of humour! Laura Tonn and Lauren Bond, who both write absolutely sweet, beautiful, pretty, awesome poetry will be there. Maybe they can read for us! Jon Reade is going to be there. For any of you who do not know Jon, he is so funny. He will have you laughing about ANYTHING, honest. And he gives great hugs, too. =) =) =) =) =) =) =) My favourite "hugging machines" so to speak, Tom Miles, Crunch, and Tom Proven will be there. Trust me, after getting a nice long warm loving hug from one of these guys, you will be in seventh heaven. =) =-) =) And Pat Brown is planning on coming. If ny of you have read his occasional poetry posts, then you will hope so much that he will grace us with a reading (hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint) Ted Berberian is going to be there. I met Ted at Great Adventure, and he so totally rocks like no one can imagine. Ted is really amazing. Someone should write and illustrate a series of comic books where Ted Berberian is the hero. Super Ted... hee hee hee. I am going to be there. I am the amazingly ticklish one of the group. Ask Rachel...tickling me by poking the air is amusing enough! Ask Tegan...ask Steve Messina and Dave Tsang who WOKE ME UP at 7 AM by poking the air...yes, my loves, I am that ticklish. =) =) =) And hell, I am going to read to all of y'all. =) =) =) =) =) So yeah, finally, all those poems that I am posting on the list, you can hear them come from my mouth... Besides, we all have to hang out at the beautifil river behind the Bearsville Theater that Jon Reade and Tammy have told me so much about. And I know that it would be hella fun to romp around the streets of Woodstock in search of the house of the one and only Natalie Merchant. =) =) =) (hee hee hee if we find a health food store we might be able to find her, as I know she is a vegitarian and really into health food and hummous and tabouli type of stuff). And then we can always have a campfire. Remember when you were a little kid at sleep-away camp? Sitting around the campfire, talking, laughing, hugging, singing songs, and eating roasted marshmellows? Well, Bearsville 97 is going to be BETTER than sleep away camp! If for no other reason than... EDA LOVIN'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me, there is nothing in the world as wonderful as hours on end of EDA lovin' and EDA huggun'. For all of you who have RSVPed in the affirmative that you are coming, you do not know how psyched I am. When I think about how great it will be to see you and to meet most of you, I start crying happy tears. =) For all of you who have NOT RSVPed yet, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RSVP Crunch at: BRSVL97@aol.com and then...email Tammy Campbell about camping and lodging at: TLCATHOME@aol.com and then...email me with your carpooling info at: sm_kartalopo@acad.fandm.edu And then make sure you check out Mike Connell's faddy-daddy kickass webpage at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/bv97/bv97.htm I CANT WAIT TO SEE YOU ALL THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry bout that. >>> Paul Noble 07/07/97 09:26am >>> Good Luck with your guitar playing. This needs to be displayed in a fixed pitch font such as courier to be readable. Thanks! > Oh, and can someone help me understand what the theory behind > "sus" is, like Fsus4. And also how to play the chords with two letters, > like G/F? Thanks. > > Naveen :-) First of all, "sus" means drop the third and replace it with the following number. In Dsus4, you don't play an F# (the third of D), instead you play the note G (the fourth of D). "Sus" means "suspended" and when you remove the third from a chord, it becomes suspended between minor and major. When chords have two letters, the first letter indicates the chord to be played and the second letter indicates the root to be played. It's a way to denote inversions basically. Btw G/F isn't really a chord because there's no F in G. Properly written, it would be Gm7/F. Why don't we see if we can get Jewel to do some songs that she normally doesn't do live--mainly the ones of soundtracks (Have A Little Faith In Me; Sunshine Superman; Under The Water; Quiet Warrior; Over The Rainbow (if she knows the guitar part now) and some others that ae escaping my memory right now.) We could also see if she would do an opera song since that was what she was studying at Interlochen (right??) What dja' think?
