I'll keep it a short a possible. :) I found it necessary to make a quick comment on this. This mailing list for the most part is a unmoderated, meaning there isn't a person who reads/checks all the messages then sends them to the mailing list. Moderated mailing lists exists but this is not one of them. That being said, it would be logical to assume that anyone could talk about whatever they want, within the rules of the group. Again it would be logical to assume that there are many things that would get talked about that many people would have no interest in. With out getting into a long discussion about freedom of speach and personal resposibilty let me say that this is a "Jewel" mailing list. It is not a "Jewel Music" mailing list. There are no rules to lock us into just taking about Jewel's music. As such, it is only logical to assume people are going to talk about other things then Jewel's music. If these things bother you or you have no interest in them just DELETE them. Don't read them, then delete them. Just get rid of them completly. You are getting angry and annoyed, yet you have no one to blame except yourself. You are the one who is reading these posts that you think are "crap", to quote you. That's like reading a book with subject matter you know you have no interest in. Or it's like watching a tv program you have no interest in. Then afterwords you rant and rave about how terrible the book or tv program was. You have the power and the choice. People shouldn't have to change what they post, everyone should be free to express themselves. It is up to you to not read things that don't interest you. For your info, I delete a little over half of the posts that I get from the Jewel mailing list. The posts that I do choose to read, I find well written, intelligent and always worthwhile. I appreciate the list greatly and all the great idea's and minds that are gathered here together. Again just remember you control what posts you read. Just take a little more time and delete/remove the things that don't interest you. The definitly are not worth getting upset over. I was walking through a clothing store today when this song came on the radio station they were playing. The singer's voice sounded exactly like Jewel's although the music style was completely different. Normally I would discount it as my ear playing tricks on me but then I heard some lines to the song which struck a chord in my head: This is the chorus: "Under the water, I hear who I become" "In silence we hear who we become" is a favorite phrase of hers, isn't it? There was some line in the song about innocence not being able to be maintained. I know her song talks about innocence only being maintained but they are quite similar. Anyone know anything about this song? It might be called "Under the Water" or something like that. Anyway, just wondering. Songs (WNNX Atlanta) just wanted to let you all know..... those who i have been in contact with, you may want to be aware of this news... this information was in the new 99xpress magazine i got in the mail today... the "Live X III: R.A.I.N.N. Songs" cd will not be released until J U L Y 2 2 , 1 9 9 7 now. here are a few of the actual exclusive tracks to be included: Tori Amos - "Silent All These Years" Dave Matthews Band - "Satellite" Melissa Etheridge - "I Want To Come Over" Joan Osborne - "Ladder" Tracy Chapman - "Fast Car" Bush - "Come Down" these were the only songs listed... other artists include: Better Than Ezra, Goo Goo Dolls, Jewel, Barenaked Ladies, Fleming & John, Dishwalla, Jars Of Clay, and Paul Waesterberg. (looks like Poe and Heather Nova have been excluded, as the cd will have only 14 tracks) All proceeds will go to help support RAINN, the rape abuse and incest national network co-founded by Tori Amos. The proceeds will directly benefit RAINN's Campus Outreach program. Due to the alarming occurrence of "acquaintance rape" among the college population (the highest risk group for sexual crimes), this program will concentrate on raising awareness of the issue of rape, as well as the availability of the 24-hour RAINN hotline. Cover art for the cd was created by pop art icon Peter Max. With previous Live X cd's, 99x was able to raise $35,000 for Habitat for Humanity and $82,000 for the Grady Hospital pediatric/adolescent AIDS program. Both previous cd's sold out in a matter of weeks, and the same is expected for RAINN songs. 99x will be holding a cd-release party for RAINN songs where you can purchace the cd in advance of street date. Last time, it was an invite only party (you had to win tickets on the radio or pay big bucks to get in) and Sarah McLaughlan was there to sign copies of the cd. Considering this is releated to Tori Amos is a big way, i would not be surprised if she was scheduled to be there to do the same. (this is my opinion, it has not been said or written anywhere!) Those of you who i have been in contact with will know in the next few weeks... as i will be sending a copy of this magazine to you. conect to 99x on the web..... http://www.com/99x portions of this email were originally written by Melissa Carter at 99x. - -rusty rusty@poe.org agentorange2@juno.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 05 Jul 1997 21:19:49 EDT From: sparksmark@juno.com (Sparks the Everyday Angel) Subject: NJC Wings Foundation Hi Angels, Someone posted a forward about the Wings Foundation...about how their goal is to provide free emergency transportation to people who need it. I wrote to the director of the foundation and this is the letter I received. ====================================== Do you have a web site that I could learn more about your Foundation. As far as The Wings Foundation..........If you would like some quick information send email to wingsfoundation-info@freeyellow.com It is an autoresponder that will give general information. We are a small group, really just beginning. I do operate out of my house because I do not believe in spending the money that people send us on extravagant offices that are there just to pump up the ego of the director. When we grow large enough, we will move into an office. But, I will pay for the office out of my own pocket, not from the donations. We believe in helping as many people as we can. Our goal is to reach at least 1,000,000 supporters contributing $1.00 a month. There are over 27,000,000 current active internet users, and I feel that this is a very reachable goal. There are so many people who could benefit from a service like ours, that we must reach our goal. And, I will not rest until we do. Fund raising takes a large amount of time and energy. We have, however, secured a couple of corporate sponsors. Which has begun to help out. How can you help if you cannot afford to become a supporter? Tell everyone that you know, that is linked to the internet, about us. Our address is http://www.freeyellow.com/members/wingsfoundation . Let them know that ALL of the money that they contribute is tax deductable and will go towards helping others. NONE of the money goes to line the pockets of the people involved. We are all volunteers. Those who become supporters will receive access to our web site (should be up and running within three weeks). There they will be able to read stories about the people that we have helped, about future projects, and they will be given the ability to vote on those projects. We will not undertake any new projects without the support of those who help us. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me via e-mail at wingsfoundation@freeyellow.com . Thanks Andrew Archer Director, The Wings Foundation ====================================== I'm wondering also...is there a website that explains what the EDAF is all about? I know that our feet aren't really planted on the ground yet, but if there isn't one, maybe someone could make one? All they ask is for a $1 a month. We can all help the Wings Foundation if just spread the word and donate. :) Mark - --- Inside my heart there's an empty room. Let's start RESPONDING instead. What do you say angels? If I could hug you all right now I would. Like the subject says, I'm in a mood. Hugs and kisses all around! Live and let live! That's one of the most important things that I'm learning by being an EDA. I'm also trying to shed my cynicism. This list helps that, even whe it veers uncontrollably off topic. Don't get so uptight and don't let others get you that way. (This is SO hypocritical coming from me, but you don't know that so I guess I can get away with it!) Very few of these posts of irrelevant information are actually harmful to Jewel or anyone else. Even when they are, apologies always seem to follow. So don't get so upset. You'll ruffle your wings.:) Stay sensitive, Nathan dogslife@bigfoot.com "Being a man leaves me cold: that's how it is." -Pablo Neruda ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Jul 1997 20:10:32 -0700 (PDT) From: Jason Kolashinski Subject: Wiggly Teeth--EDA Dental Student response Looks like I'm a little to late on this, but I am a dental student (just finished my first year at UW), and have been on the list for about a year now, but many of you probably don't know me because I, well, am in Dental School and don't have a lot of time to write. Anyways, most of the points Igor addressed were exactly right. Jewel won't die from crooked teeth, although it wouldn't hurt to get some orthodontic work done on them either. Braces would be the best option to fix her lower teeth. They can enhance not only her esthetic look, but also help relax the muscles of the mouth. If the teeth are not "fitting" correctly, she may suffer from soreness of the mouth due to the teeth hitting each other irregularily. Women are the most prone to suffer from TMJ problems (where the lower jaw articulates with the skull), and this is perhaps one of the bigger health problems facing women today. Irregular teeth can cause this TMJ problem. But Jewel is probably functioning just fine, as long as she doesn't have any soreness problems. She can probably eat just fine, because if teeth don't come together correctly, they will retrude with time, meaning that the bones will reshape and the teeth will grow down or up so that they do contact. If a tooth isn't hitting the other tooth at all, the bone that holds that tooth may wear away and resorb, or worse yet, those teeth will weaken and fall out. Or course, this is for any of you that care, but thanks for giving me the opportunity to do my first diagnosis. :) Jason jasonk@u.washington.edu On Sat, 5 Jul 1997, Victor Igor Wasylczenko wrote: > You can't die from pimples either. That way Jewel can smile and people can't see her braces. But getting braces mean she probably have to pull a few teeth and having braces in the first weeks will hinder her singing and talking so unless Jewel REALLY wants perfect teeth I would not recommend it. Actually I think Jewel's crooked teeth is very cute and make her look special. Unfortune for me, my retainer didn't do that good of a job so now I still have few spaces between my teeth and I have to use toothpick after every meal. I would like to get another retainer but I heard I'll have to get another braces too. *Sigh* "This is just like chocolate, I love it!" -Jewel EDA always, Stanley ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Jul 1997 22:50:34 -0600 From: Bob B Subject: RE: NJC: I'm just in a mood - ---------- From: Emily S Tate[SMTP:bedo7@juno.com] Sent: Saturday, July 05, 1997 10:12 PM To: jewel@smoe.org Subject: Re: NJC: I'm just in a mood > I say we stop flaming altogether. =20 >Let's start RESPONDING instead.
