Hi Angels Just to help back up Sinjin's point, look at one artist in particular. Her name is Susanna Hoffs. Yes I know your all saying who cares about the ex lead singer of the Bangles. Here is my point. After having success larger than Jewel's with the Bangles Susanna Hoffs has now moved to playing coffeehouses and small bars. Less than one month ago Susanna played 3 shows in Boston. Each show was less than $10 and each venue had a capacity of less than 100 people. Another artist is Tom Cochrane. He is best known for "Life Is A Highway". While this was a major hit a few years back, the radio/record game is about today. A couple weeks ago I heard another artist mention Tom and the DJ said in all seriousness "Tom is still playing music, I thought he was dead." Currently Tom is playing acoustic gigs in Canada. He has changed his sound and his musical style and has a new live album coming out. While a few of the shows on Tom's tour are large, many of the shows are in small intimate venues. . I think once everyone cools off about an artist such as Jewel alot of the fans that have come to her concerts in the past 6 months are going to start to lose intrest in Jewel and gain intrest in other artists. Some of the people I talked to on the Tiny Lights Tour were less excited about the music than the fact that they were going to be able to tell their friends that they were at a "Jewel" concert. I think it may take a long time, and it may never happen, but I like to think sooner or later Jewel will come back to the places that she started. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. Make sure if your out for long amounts of time to put on sunscreen. We don't want any fried EDAs at the end of the day. Talk to you soon. This is really weird, but their first dates (35 years ago in New Jersey) were to Greenwich Village to see Bob Dylan and others. My dad was a fan since then, and still is. Apologies to Jakob (because he doesn't like to be "son of"), but my dad bought their album as soon as he heard that the Wallflowers were aquainted with Bob. It's hard to imagine both my parents and Bob Dylan young and Bob not famous, but it is something akin to the Innerchange followers who still stick by Jewel, not to say that these are bigger fans, just older ones who are lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time, which happened to be the Innerchange. This is about all this e-mail about her popularity(Duh?) Personnally, Im not much of a stick-to-1-type of music like plenty of people my age(18 or high schoolers). Alot of those kids are a bunch of followers that don't take the time to explore the vastness or a small chunk of it. Anyway, when I saw the WWSYS video I didn't think 'Woo, shes HOT!' after listening to the lyrics I was really thinking 'This girl is going to be big' . Being my own psycic(however you spell it) she became a hit a few weeks later. After Atlanta has nearly killed WWSYS and YWMFM, Jewel has had to change her ways a little to produce a sound that isn't same old, same old. Thats good cause thats showing she could change it around a little and come out practically the same. To quite rambling Im saying that Jewel is more than a pretty face with a beutiful voice, Im saying she has restored my hope in keeping my dreams alive. My dreams? no not about Jewel :o) My dreams of actually making it in the very high stakes world of the music industry. Im starting small right now, but with a sort-of role model up there it keeps me going when everything looks wrong & I feel like Im going to waste my time trying. It really sucks that there are a bunch of bandwagon people out there in this big world. Many which, if went to a show, would only be a nusance--only wanting to hear the popular songs that are on the radio. Somebody said(in the last couple of days) that we give a little piece of ourselves to get in return music for the soul(kinda cheezy, but true)...To have somebody up on stage who has gone through & made it, she has taken my heart & reasured that my little band could(through endless rehersals & plenty of gigs) could be up there with her. November 1, 1997 - Acquire first aircraft and begin making modifications to it. Begin searching for flight EMT or flight Nurse. January 1, 1998 - Take first patients on first Wings Foundation flights. Our goal during this first phase is $3,000,000. Sounds like alot, but I believe that we can make it!! The Wings Foundation is an organization dedicated to giving a helping hand, not a crutch to those in need. This project has been in the works for over 5 years and has begun to take shape. . . The idea came to me when friends, who had a baby with numerous birth defects were told by their doctor to go and see a specialist. That specialist's office was in New Jersey, and they live in Georgia. Because the baby was on oxygen and other medical equipment they were not permitted to fly commercial. Another option was to fly via air ambulance. Now because this was to see a specialist about a new procedure, their insurance would not cover the transportation. Through donations from people like you, we will purchase or lease an aircraft, modify it to suit our needs, then use it to transport people like those in the example above to get the medical attention that they deserve and need. Completely FREE of ANY cost!! It's that simple. For too long, too many people have been getting rich off of other peoples hardships. I am not against people making money, we all need money to survive. I am against people taking advantage of other people and financially becoming wealthy in the process. I am appealing to the citizens of the internet first. I feel that there is enough support out there with the 40 million people actively using the net that we can make this happen. We can begin to make a difference in the lives of many people. It's not about me, it's not about you, it's about helping others. If you would take the time to help us out with a tax deductible contribution, we would sincerely appreciate it. If you are interested you can e-mail me at wingsfoundation@freeyellow.com. Put in the subject "Wings" and I will send you complete information regarding where to send the donation. Or you can simply click on the instant information link below for fastest service. Please, help us open the door for those in need. ~~~~~~~~ Diamond -*- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Jul 1997 05:03:46, -0500 From: GHGM00C@prodigy.com (MR JEFF D SCHAEFFER JR) Subject: Jewel's Popularity I have read the discussions on Jewel's popularity, and have heard several people's opinions on the matter. I just wanted to say, for those of you who detest her becoming famous(and in my opinion, the popularity will only rise for quite a while), saying that it takes away from the intimacy of her music and drives drones of top-40 listeners to buy the album and call themselves "fans", that I understand your view, but there is a silver lining for some. For example, myself. I am grateful for the exposure that she has gotten, because for me it was just that, exposure. I had never heard of Jewel before I heard her on the radio, period. It didn't take me long to become hooked, and since then I have been not just enjoying her music, but clinging to every word, every inflection of her voice, the emotion behind the lyrics. It's been a beautiful experience being a fan of Jewel. And I have this over-exoposure to thank for it. When I found this mailing list, it felt like home in a way. I only know one other person that I see regularly who feels strongly about Jewel's music as I do, and finding a whole community of people was kind of mind-blowing. But when I see people on the list who assume that newer fans can't appreciate Jewel as they do, I feel sort of alienated and a little insulted. I wish I could have been around to see jewel in a more intimate setting, I don't think there are too many people here who would prefer to be one of ten thousand nameless faces in a crowd, but I can't help that. Those days are gone, and I wasn't a part of them, and that is sad. All I can do is be one of the nameless faces, and try to get to know those who know what I feel like when I listen to Jewel. Kind of an akward first-post, I hope it wasn't too over-the-top. I'm not saying that popularity of an artist doesn't take away from the feeling of closeness to them, I'm just hoping that anyone who declares themselves to be a Jewel "newbie" isn't looked down upon as having the inability to feel close to Jewel as an artist. Ok, maybe I can sleep now. Well, I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you, I have been on mailing lists before, but this one is definitely more intimate. Because when you drive in the parking lot, you can see the seats and stuff from the lot, but then youhave to walk completly around it to get to it, the whole walk is about a mile! I saw Unplugged and loved every minute of it. I taped it and watch it all the time. So how was Rockfest?? I saw Jewel's so called "rock version" of You Were Meant for Me on MTV. Does anyone know if Unplugged will be released on a CD??? I hope so. Foolish Games has just recently been released over the air waves on the radio here in Florida. I called my local radio station and asked them to play Follish Games, and guess what the stupid lady told me.... that it was too slow and she doesn't like it. I went off at her for that. Well I was wondering if anyone was making copies of Unplugged onto cassettes. I really would appreciate it if someone could do this for me. Well it's great to be back! No cares in the world, Not prepared for life's mendacity. She ruffled the damask in her little hands, Just her face was effusive..... She wrinkled her nose when she laughed, It made me stop and look back.... Our childhood days are elusive. When I think of all her innocence, I pray for that age again. What happened to dressing up?
