When people ask what our motivation is behind our random acts of kindness we can say the EDAF. And people that dont know what the edaf is we can inform them. It will give non-EDA's an opportunity to join the EDAF and help us too. We are such a strong force that is just scattered right now. We just need some unitty. And a little focus. He has seen the blue llama, and he says "there are no leaders; just follow the blue llama." And I agree with you that Alan has been a gift to all of us. I knew this was going to happen... :) Okay...I understand the anti-taping position totally... But I've been in arguments many times on other lists about this, and I still stick to what I believe, which is that it is NOT wrong... There's a difference between situations, you see.. If someone were to make numerous taped copies of say, POY and try to sell them, *that's* sleazy in my opinion... To tape a CD for a friend or acquaintance is *Not*...I see it as a good deed and an act of sharing music....I'm not talking about running a business here, but just doing a friend a favor...God strike me down the day taping a CD for a friend becomes a moral crisis... I'm not trying to be rude, because like I said, I do see the other position...But I'm just not one for platitudes...If we're talking about a struggling Indie artist, maybe tha6t's a different situation...Bootlegging is also a different situation...(although I feel the same way about bootlegging as I do CD-taping...I just respect Jewel's opinions about it, though)...As far as depriving artists their money, or depriving industry executives their money (alot of which, I'm sorry, but i can't say is "hard earned") is not really an issue when you are talking about a few friends taping CDs for a few friends...It comes down to greed...What's more important, a few cents (yes, cents) of royalty money or the spreading around of music and culture between people who trust eachother...?? If I *had* the money, I would buy the CDs...But I don't, and it's not because I'm a jobless slacker...I'm a student, and just don't have that kind of money right now to throw around when all I want to do is experience some good music casually...With the growing inflation rates of CDs these days, it makes it even harder....I really don't think this is the issue it's being made out to be...I will support individual artists in their views, but I will go on record as saying that I disagree with Jewel on this matter, and the Dave Matthews Band also...I know that's going to earn me a lot of flames, but it's what I truly beleive, and if I was even a *semi-successful* recording artist myself, I would feel the same way... > the last time i checked, both Weezer albums were available in stores. > i am sorry if you don't have the money to buy them. i want a new > car, and i don't have the money for one. but i am not about > to go and steal a car. That is hardly the same thing at all... > By receiving a taped copy of the Weezer > albums, you would effectively be STEALING the albums. you are > denying Weezer of the royalties they deserve for their intellectual > property. If we still think of music as ART, then I am *experiencing* their intellectual property, their music, the only way I reasonably can at this point...As artists, this is more significant than a few cents of royalties...Again, we are talking about the situation...I am not out to capitalize on the band's art...I am only *sincere* about wanting to hear it... > YOU NOT TO COPY THIS OR ANY OTHER ARTIST'S ALBUM FOR YOUR FRIENDS > (EXCEPT IF YOU ARE MAKING A COOL MIX OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS -- > THAT'S DIFFERENT); This is how I see taping a copy of a record for a friend...extremely different from actual *theft*... > INSTEAD, WHY NOT INVEST A LITTLE MOOLA, GET YOUR FRIEND > A PRESENT, AND HELP US OUT? IF IN THE EVENT THAT YOU MUST COPY OUR > ALBUM, AT LEAST DON'T TELL US. > > i agree with The Nields on this issue. If the artist feels this way, as the Neilds do, and Jewel does, then in that situation I would probably respect their views...Notice that the liner notes do not equate taping Cds with any kind of theft...I still don't understand that angle... Please understand that I do not do this on a regular basis, and would probably be more hesitant to do so with a struggling artist vs. a successful artist...This is just one instance of me wanting to hear an album that I can't afford, and I seriously doubt that the artists themselves would be upset over me doing so... Anyway...I'm not trying to be antagonistic at all...just stating my opinion...Sorry for the long rant... The element, tentatively named ADMINISTRATIUM, has no protons or electrons and thus has an atomic number of 0. However, it does have 1 Neutron, 128 Assistant Neutrons, 75 Vice-Neutrons and 111 Assistant Vice Neutrons. This gives it an atomic weight of 315. These 315 particles are held together in a nucleus by a force that involves the continuous exchange of meson-like particles called Morons. Since it has no electrons, Adminstratium is inert. However, it can be detected chemically as it impedes every other reaction with which it comes into contact. According to the discoverers, a minute amount of Administratium caused one reaction to take over four days to complete, when it would normally occur in less than one second. Administratium has a normal life of approximately 3 years, at which time it does not decay, but instead, undergoes a reorganization in which Assistant Neutrons, Vice-Neutrons and Assistant Vice-Neutrons exchange places. Some studies have shown that the atomic weight actually increases after each reorganization. Research at other laboratories indicates that Administratium occurs naturally in the atmosphere. It tends to concentrate at certain points such as government, large companies, healthcare facilities and universities; and will often be found in the newest, best maintained buildings. Scientists point out that Administratium is known to be toxic at any level of concentration and can easily destroy any productive reactions where it is allowed to accumulate. _________________________________________________________________ To leave this mailing list, send mail to majordomo@world.std.com with the message UNSUBSCRIBE STYX ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Jun 1997 16:34:27 -0400 (EDT) From: Jewel6511@aol.com Subject: here ya go! ok heres the problem...........my boy friend and i broke up in JANUARY..yes I know a long time ago...well to make a long long story SHORT. "We are everyday angels." -Jewel Always an EDA, Stanley >> Actually, I have always prized this list on it's openness, for the most part, when it comes to discussion. Yes, we are all fans of Jewel, but we also have differing opinions on many topics...and I am not only sure that we all have a "least favorite" Jewel song, but that some of us are interested in what the others have to say on this subject. Me and my sister will be there and we'd like to know who's going. We only could get seats in the uncovered section but at least we get to go. :-) I've written the other guy who mentioned this to the list a few days ago but I want to talk to all the others too before the concert. Questions: 1.) Ok this probably sounds pretty dumb and weird but neither me nor my sister can figure out what else she could be doing...well, on YWMFM, what the heck is Jewel doing in the musical part after she says, "hearts are broken every day"? There's this part that sure the heck looks like she slightly has her middle finger up. I kept looking for mention of this on the list but haven't seen anything or just maybe missed it. I've been on the list for a few months now. 2.) I also noticed that someone mentioned something about backstage passes at Jewels concerts. I'd also like to know how or if I could get any & how. 3.) I'm dying to see the entire duet she did with Melissa Etheridge (loved her story about Melissa leaving her a message on the answering machine ...hehe...I was wishing I'd someday get a message from Jewel on mine... :-)...well, I can dream) that they showed the small clip of on the "Women First" special on VH1. Does anyone know if they will show that again? Or can it be requested? BTW, I will definitely request that song to ALL the radio stations that play hit songs locally. :-) And me and my sister will tell all of our friends to request it also.
