I'm also hearing just as much or more from EDAs who are encouraged that the EDAF, whether or not they take an active role in it, will be formed through our collective ideas and thoughts. The EDAF has as much, or more, to do with Jewel than do threads about toilet paper rolls and things which we've all enjoyed here. And with some understanding and patience these EDAF threads will have a productive result in helping EDAF organizers build something we can all be proud of and happy about as it continues to spread the acts of kindness for which we as EDAs are known. Hopefully, all our ideas and input will give definition to the EDAF and soon be taken and used to help build the Foundation. Then it'll be back to more toilet rolls and whatever else we want to talk about on this list... It's Jewel's cherished wish that the EDA Foundation become a reality. As Mark said, who needs more reason to support the EDAF? I'd do my bit, whatever it may be, just to repay all the positivism that Jewel has brought to my life and the lives of all EDAs and others in this world. And there are lots of good reasons that have been posted by EDAs -- things an organization can do that are different than the things we do on our own as EDAs. Personally I don't like organizations. I like free-spirited individualism and anarchic emotional activity -- those are some of the qualities that first attracted me to this list and have kept me here as an EDA. And I may have nothing to do with the EDAF. I live on a small island in the Pacific where there's not even a blood bank or a car dealer (e.g. to buy a special van for James Paul Kalanick). There's not even a traffic light on this island (though they have started painted a line down the middle of most roads -- that's getting pretty civilized). So from where I sit behind my computer screen, the good I can bring may be just to try and help us understand amongst us what this could become -- and to help it become something we'd feel good about. I'm uncomfortable with anything less than full egalitarianism and most structures (or governments as labelled in EDA posts here), be they called democracies, communist regimes, dictatorships or whatever, are not my cup of tea. But it's also true that to get anything done in a larger community-organized way there has to be some kind of organization. An EDA Foundation can hopefully approach these sort of issues in a more humanistic way than most businesses or governments do. Any EDAs that volunteer to organize the EDAF will be doing it selflessly and because they want to see this particular dream of Jewel's and ours to become a reality. Life will carry on as always on this list. I'm interested in talking about Jewel's performances and songs, (and why won't the record company release that second album NOW!!), about G-string Gianny, about Man-D's EDA Harem (TM) and all the other fun things we discuss. But I believe the EDAF is important. It's important to Jewel and to a lot of EDAs and it can be important to our world if we help it along a bit. That's all I'm trying to do, that's all any of us talking about it here are trying to do. Sometimes when people see a person so many times, like on the radio, tv, or whatever, they get really sick of them. I know a lot of friends of mine that are really sick of Jewel. They see her on tv, magazines, hear her songs on the radio, and seeing all the Jewel stuff I have at home doesn't help either. Someone mentioned something like this before on the list. I, personally, think that we might lose our community feel if we get more attention. But it's hard to really know. I don't want us to be doing all these angelic things just to get more and more media attention. It's like now people are saying, "Yes! We'll be mentioned in Time magazine and everyone around the world will know about us and all the good things we've done!" That's nice that other people know that there are people that care about the world, but I like the fact that we do things just because we want to make a difference in the world. Because we can, we know we can, and we will. Mark - --- Inside my heart there's an empty room. Yesterday, I saw you walking and laughing with your friends; I hoped that soon you'd want Me to walk along with you, too. So, I painted you a sunset to close your day and whispered a cool breeze to refresh you. I waited you never called I just kept on loving you. As I watched you fall asleep last night, I wanted so much to touch you. I spilled moonlight onto your face- trickling down your cheeks as so many tears have. You didn't even think of me; I wanted so much to comfort you. The next day I exploded a brilliant sunrise into a glorious morning for you. But you woke up late and rushed off to work- you didn't even notice. My sky became cloudy and My tears were the rain. I love you. Oh, if you'd only listen. I really love you. I try to say it in the quiet of the green meadow and in the blue sky. The wind whispers My love throughout the treetops and spills it into the vibrant colors of the flowers. I shout it to you in the thunder of the great waterfalls and compose lovesongs for bands to sing for you. I warm you with the clothing of My sunshine and perfume the air with nature's sweet scent. My love for you is deeper than the ocean and greater than any need in your heart. If you'd only realize how I care. I died just for you. My Dad sends His love. I want you to meet Him. He cares, too. Fathers are just that way. So please call Me soon. No matter how long it takes, I'll wait because I love you. WE BESEECH YOU NOT TO COPY THIS OR ANY OTHER ARTIST'S ALBUM FOR YOUR FRIENDS (EXCEPT IF YOU ARE MAKING A COOL MIX OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS -- THAT'S DIFFERENT); INSTEAD, WHY NOT INVEST A LITTLE MOOLA, GET YOUR FRIEND A PRESENT, AND HELP US OUT? IF IN THE EVENT THAT YOU MUST COPY OUR ALBUM, AT LEAST DON'T TELL US. i agree with The Nields on this issue. if EDAs feel compelled to tape or distribute commercially available material, please don't tell anyone. but i'd beg you to save your pesoes and buy the CDs. i am sorry for sounding like an impatient jerk, but i hafta write posts like this at least once a month explaining wht it is illegal, bad netiquette, and just plain WRONG to distribute commerically availble material. peace, dave *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Dave DiCicco peaches@dmapub.dma.org "Innocence Maintained" is a moderated, news only email list providing its subscribers with timely information about Jewel Kilcher. To Mark and everyone who thinks I liked the idea of being mentioned in TIME because we could be famous... That is not at all what I intended nor is it in any way how I felt about Jewel's apearance in TIME. Let me explain what I meant. As in previous magazine appearances, Jewel will likely mention the EDAs. In addition, I thought it would be a good opportunity for the EDAF to be mentioned as well for the sole reason that we would get community support, something that every organization must have. NOT because I wanted to be famous, but because it would give the EDAF a good start. Albert has agreed with me, but as it turns out, it would not be wise for the EDAF to be mentioned in such a large-scale publication until after we have legally founded this organization, otherwise, someone may steal the idea and call it their own for fame or fraud purposes. We will NOT be doing things to get media attention, but that will certainly help us because we society could use all the help it can get (I mean, just look around you when you're driving). The more people we have helping us, the more successful our projects can be...I believe this is just common sense. I know the argument of "Too many cooks spoil the broth" will arise, but we will not have EVERYONE involved in the planning details of every project. The place that we can use a large number of people is in the carrying-out stage of every project. Remember...I'm not at all interested in being "rewarded" by being noticed by the media. I AM interested, however, in helping the EDAF as much as possible. If being mentioned by the media would in any way help the EDAF in it's endeavors (and it probably will), then I see nothing wrong in taking the opportunity gladly. If you're not willing to give a little of yourself, you won't relate to her music. Once you put her face on the cover of every magazine on the newsstand, you take away her humanity and those that didn't know who she was before this mass adulation, will see her as just another pop star. Um, not that I'm for copying commercially available material or anything, but the car thing made me think... Isn't it just like renting to own a car or borrowing someone else's car? Oh well, in any case, we've now all learned that copying commercially available stuff = bad things. - -Christa:) - -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Hey, I'm a firm believer in the ruling class. We only have what freedoms the government deems that we have. The decency thing with the supreme court is a good example. They have the power to limit the freedom of american citizens in any way they choose. If they don't like your religion they do like they did in Waco. Make up some sort of charge against you and arrest you. There is a quote off the 'Bulls on Parade' video that I like. It says: "Free speech is like money. Some people have more of it than others." We don't control our lives either. Circumstances do, and so soes the government. I suggest you read "1984" by George Orwell. It hits very close to home. >NO! Communism is BAD! What did you expect? Batman Forever had only five of the songs form the soundtrack in the moive (including the credits). So no hearing FG in this movie isn't surprizing. In fact I would have been surprized to hear it in there. >Also, is it just me, or were >the first three Batman movies semi-believeable/realistic, where this >one...well, was not (to say the least)? Well somthing you have to remeber is that this movie is BASED of of a COMIC BOOK. Comic books are not meant to be realistic (look at the biggist titels out there today and you'll see this). I remeber reading a response to someones letter in the back of a comic once that said when reading a comic you had to use something called Suspention of disbelive. Whic is just putting asid you commen sense that makes you say things like "That couldn't happen" and just enjoy the ride. And yes this one did seem unrealistic, it seemed more like a comic. >And Uma Thurman comes back to life as >a plant? The other ones are *very* realistic compared to this one. Hmmmmmm, remeber the charater brought back from the dead by a pack of wild cats in the 2nd one? That's not realistic. And I really didn't see it as she was brought back as a plant (well, not exactly anyway), just that the toxins (the same used to make Bane) mutated her. Well, I think that is less Power Rangers like and more like the Batman serise with Adam West (that HAD the "POW" & "BAMM" things :]). I remeber that he was always prepared for everything ("Oh that had poision in it? Good thing I coated my somach before heading out today, huh?) just the way the Batman and Robin coustumes just HAPPENED to have those ice skates in the boots. >George Clooney was George Clooney in a batsuit ( the worst batman so far) Agreed. He did NO work on a Batman voice. It was just his normal voice. He even talked the same when he was at the charity event as Batman with one of his "close friends" and she didn't notice it was him? Now THAT is like Power Rangers :]. >Chris O'donnel I think is good as Robin (even in this bad film) Yeah, he worked pretty well, and I like the new costume. >Arnold Schwarzenegger was so bad at his role in this movie (looked cool ) Agreed. I was SO pissed when I heard her was going to be Mr Freez (over Patric Sewert no less). I was at lest gald that they kept the origin the same (mostly) and made him bald (I don't know if he shaved it or not). >Uma thruman was well better then Arnold I like Uman Thruman was a really good choice for this part. I was really pleased with this choice when I first heard it. I also think that she did a good job. >Alicia Sliverstone I thought was good as batgirl Well, I think that Alicia was a good choice for the role of Batgirl, I think this did a fair job, but I think that the role itself are HORRIABLE. No depth, seemed that they where trying to turn her into the basic comic "bad girl" what with the sneaking out and being a big-bad bike rider. And WHO desinged that costum?!?!?!? Now I know that the other costumes airn't all that battle ready (cus they are so damned heavy), but at least they don't have HIGH HEELS ON THE BOOTS!!! And I nearly died laughing when she ran up to B&R and felt the need to tell them who she was. Somehow I really don't think that the little face mask would hide your identity (I really would have liked to have seen her with cowl as somting other then just a crash helmet. >I think this movie could have been alot better if it did not have the one >liners in it One more time: Agreed. >BRING BACK TIM BURTIN That's unlikly considering durning the time that the next Batman movie is being made Tim B. will be directing the new Superman movie (writin my KEVIN SMITH!!!). - -Ashe Mayfair ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #508 ***************************
