I haven't downloaded any of my mail for the past month until today, being too busy with finals and all that. So I could only skim through everything that happened. As I was looking through my 2000+ messages I noticed something: there were barely any posts from Harrises!!! There were ablsolutely none from Dennis, and maybe one or two from Tom Harris (aka Pat Brown). And of course, Dean Harris hasn't been around for years and years now. They're dropping like flies! What's happening? Where are all the Harrisses? And on the subject, where'd Selena the Harris Sister go? I haven't seen her post for months, ever since the Tiny Lights tour when she told us about the drunk guys at the concert she took her kids to. That was in March sometime. Three months ago. Are you still there, Selena? I can't survive on such a low monthly Harris intake. I think it might be some sort of government conspiracy. Where are you guys? Please come back. We miss you! - --Shaun ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jun 1997 01:56:57 -0700 (PDT) From: matson@intergate.bc.ca (Roy Matson) Subject: Trade Offer\Bukowski Hi :) On my recent trip to New Zealand I picked up two copies of the YWMFM CD single, which (just in case you didn't know) contains the following: 1. YWMFM (Album Edit i.e. same version as video) 3:39 2. cold song (non-LP bonus track) 1:03 3. rocker girl (non-LP bonus track) 1:44 I would be happy to trade the extra copy for a tape of Jewelstock or Rare Angels. Please e-mail me privately - thanks! On another note, considering how much Jewel likes Charles Bukowski, I thought I would post one of his poems. I choose this one because it's my all-time favorite poem, and I think it shows that Bukowski has a simular philosophy to Jewel. I Cannot Stand Tears there were several hundred fools around the goose who broke his leg trying to decide what to do when the guard walked up and pulled out his cannon and the issue was finished except for a woman who ran out of a hut claiming he'd killed her pet but the guard rubbed his straps and told her kiss my ass, take it to the president; the bird was crying and I cannot stand tears. I folded my canvas and went further down the road: the bastards had ruined my landscape. - -Charles Bukowski Now I'm not sure exactly what this poems means, but I interpret it as not allowing your art or soul to be spoiled by the choas and misery that takes place around you. Jewel has undoubtably seen a lot of the things that breed cynicism (from playing in bars as a child and working at degrading McJobs) but when it came time to write songs, rather than paint that kind of picture of the world, she found inspiration "further down the road." In the end, she didn't let the bastards ruin her landscape. Feel free to comment :) Cheers! Also, I've heard that most of Jewel's songs are like stories, so I doubt she's ever been in a relationship like the one in Foolish Games...That fact (if it is a fact) makes the song all the better because we know that it's the FEELING of the song more than the meaning that gets right to our heart...I also love I'm sensetive...I feel like that alot...And Angel Standing By is a beautiful song that sometimes gives me hope when I listen to it... Bill & I had a great time! It was so kewl to finally meet some of these infamous eda's. Y'all are great & i'm so glad I got to meet you! Farr got the kewlest RV & loaded it with lots of goodies Thanks Farr! I hope you aren't going to be too poor after this weekend. All I can really say is wow! What an experience!!! Friday was just insnae but a riot. As others have said it was quite a site there was a death mateal or hard meatl band that rented a ryder truch & setup a gig. Quite interesting. Tehn which I didn't get to see but heard about was the new orelns style party going on where people were gettin naked and going crazy! No love Beads were thorwn but i heard there were beer cans, and other stuff. Pople drving around loaded up on cars and someone had loaded up a forklift! Too Crazy!! :) There was just a mass of people there! The show was great Jewel rocked of course and was joking aobut how texas was only hte 2nd biggest state & how alaksa was bigger. Then she also mentioned on how fucking hot it was. Her words :) Tehn she put on a great performance expcet for when the cello made some reverb ugghh it killed half of the song! I was so bummed. I totally dug the rocking version of YMFM that was really funky! Kinda reminded me of rocker girl the tempo that is. Wallflowers were great they are even better live than recorded. I wish we could of heard Sister 7 better we were hanging out in the shaded area of the grandstands becuae bill & I were getting burnt too much and the sun was a bit much for us old folks ;) I would of loved to hang w/ the rest of the gang on the grass there but it was too hot for us. Farr & Mia got lucky and borrwoed tom & dan's media passes and got to see the really kewl part of the venue and take some killer pics! Can i get some copies please??!! It was just a great time. We then decided to leave w/ everyone to avoid the huge rush of everyone leaving and somehow becuase traffic was so mental we got seprated and went driving around looking for grapevine lake until midnight and found it but no eda's or the rv so i ws bummed i didn't get to hang out w/ everyone anymore. so bill & i went on our own little adventrue to find a place to camp but couldn't find any so we went seaching for a hotel room which luckliy enough we got. It was just really great to meet everyone you all are really nice and i hope we all can meet up again!!! Oh yeah I have to say that Christina is a complete look alike to Jeanane Garafolo (from the truth about cats & dogs) but she's a lot nicer and happier than her :) The EDA's are the kewelst & nicest people and I proved to bill that EDA's are not a bunch of psycho axe weilding murders who are going to kill us in our sleep. :) I truly adore all of you and am so glad to have met y'all!! I am SO upset right now. I wrote to the list yesterday requesting a Rare Angels tape. This morning while reading the list, I found that some WONDERFUL person had written me back and was willing to make me a tape. I was ecstatic to say the least, THEN somehow I managed to delete it. I almost cried. PLEASE give me another chance. I promise not to be so clumsy next time. I want to thank whoever it was (Dave, I think?????) for helping me out. Do you mind helping me again? Sorry about the inconvenience!!!! Lenedra will discuss with Jewel about the possibility of a video recording of the shows......snip >> I've gotten a bunch of private emails already & to avoid recieving many more, I'll adress this to the list: Yes, Jewelstock did end up being very elaborately videotaped as well as professionally recorded. Skinny Pete & crew did a phenomenal job. They set up three cameras & Bearsville set up another camera in the balcony. There are four complete versions of the first night & three complete versions of the second night totaling over 23 hours of pro-shot Jewelstock footage. However, the sound on these videotapes did not have the direct audio feed & is unusable. Over the past year, I've spent hours & hours meticulously synching my remastered audio to the video & still have only finished a fraction of the footage that exists in the archive. Zero editing has been done & the amount of time & expense needed to actually release a video of Jewelstock is monumental & overwhelming. Presently, there are no plans to release Jewelstock on video although clips may possibly surface as part of some future video project. On a somewhat related topic, I'd like to welcome all the new folks joining this list & offer some friendly advice. Check out the page Mike designed to help new folks get a grip on what's going on here. It will save you a lot of potential frustration. It's at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/ Also, although there's an overwhelming amount of mail on this list, please slow down & read anything you plan on responding to twice. A prime example is the post I'm responding to above. Obviously, a few new EDAs wrote to me privately not realizing this was a repost from a year ago! (I actually have people offering to help me film Jewelstock & one person arguing with me that they are more qualified to do the audio recording! LOL........) Please do yourself & everyone else a favor & read carefully before you reply. (Although I admit, both AmyJo & I were rolling on the floor laughing at some of these private responses.....:-) Welcome to the wacky world of MrBB, Alan ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #477 ***************************
