That's a great idea! But I doubt Atlantic will do it before they release the second album. They are probably planning to have the second album build on the momentum of PoY. I hope that they eventually do what you're suggesting but my hunch is that we'll have to wait on that one. Here's an idea that came to me the other day while listening to the Inner Change Days tapes. I was marvelling at the incredible spirit of the duets with Steve Poltz and it occured to me that all the performances that I've seen of Jewel with other bands backing her up don't compare with the energy of her performances with Steve, either duets or with the Rugburns. It's a distinct sound (more country folk than her pop oriented material) that would appeal to certain people and widen her audience. I for one would love to see an entire album of Jewel, Steve Poltz and the Rugburns! If we can host it, I know my house can take about 15 -16 inside with room in the back for about 3 - 4 tents. If you would like to try and set this up let me know and I will try to get it going. I offer this for the above reasons, and for another. We seem to miss out on such wonderful music when these musicians go on tour for no reason except lack of fans down here. In my opinion it is better to listne to the artists in person so as to get a true feel for what they are about. Who knows, maybe Tara could join these two down here and have the three some bring their wonderful tunes down here. It would also be a wonderful experience for these performers to experience true southern hospitality in an actual southern town, not that Atlanta is not southern, it just is not the same. So, I'm driving to my parents' house on Sunday...the sun shining...an absolutely gorgeous day. The road curved through the countryside, a lazily ribbon of asphault that guided me towards my destination. Jewel, of course, sang to me through the headphones of my walkman--my tape deck in my car is busted. And her voice was SOOOO beautiful...I mean, mind-blowingly so. I always -enjoy- Jewel but on days of extreme beauty, of extreme peacefulness, I truly -experience- her. Anyways, I started thinking about her voice...her talent and I found myself wondering: What makes a person talented? I mean, aside from vocal chords and training...what gives a person such a beautiful, shining talent? It's almost proof, in a way, that people have souls. Even though I'm an artist, I tend to look at many things in a practical manner...attributing a physical explaination to everything. (I'd be Scully if I were an X-Files character) But...there is no tangible explaination for what makes certain people gifted. There isn't an extra vocal chord, there isn't extra seratonin in the brain...it's just the simple purity that it's there. That it -IS-. Sweet spirituality..... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Jun 1997 23:41:39 -0400 From: Acid-Trip Subject: please help me of jewel fans I missed jewel on the rockfest the other day, pleae tell me that it will be on again, my damn vcr was acting up and I missed her. He's been suitably contrite and it was actually pretty funny waiting for the lawyerly posts to appear in response to his comments. Sort of like something you'd see in a good episode of Seinfeld. As for any discussions among EDAs lately, it seems that everyone is pretty good natured. Just sometimes not everyone knows when someone else is joking or serious. As if anyone would sue Jewel and then have to face more than 1000 EDAs in court! Hah! Not even the most litigious of weasels would try that on... We all have a lot of common interests in music and some very strong differences, too. I don't remember it exactly but there was a funny scene in an old Woody Allen movie -- maybe it was Annie Hall -- where he's been asking all these people about the meaning of love and friendship etc. and he stops one couple in the street and says something like, "You look like a nice happy couple, what's your secret?" To which the woman answers, "Well, I'm perfectly shallow and really have nothing to say" and the guy responds, "Me too". (That's a funny joke when told right.) I'm just glad that EDAs are not shallow with nothing to say. Let's celebrate our differences as much as our common traits. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Jun 1997 09:01:50 -0700 From: "Adrian du Plessis" Subject: NJC Re: Loveable lawyers, litigious weasels and the rest of humanity Just so no one gets the wrong idea, I'm on the Digest version of this list so by the time I read Eugene's post I knew it would already have been addressed -- it was only a matter of how many posts I'd scroll through before finding the lawyerly responses. Gianny stick-handled through the rough ice with finesse. Great, I just learn that I live on the same island as Tara Maclean and now I hear that she's thinking of moving to California! I hope no EDAs have been telling her that I'm here (just kidding). Maybe we should all move to California, the kookybaka state. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jun 1997 00:19:56 -0400 From: Acid-Trip Subject: RockFest please please help Hello All I was just wondering if anyone has any pictures of rockfest jewel performance scanned onto the compter. thanks alot, and please tell me ifVH1 is going to show it again, thanks love you all palain - -- .___. ==(W{========-) * ( || (.--.) | * | | \_,|**|,_/| * | `\ ' `--' /\_/ /`\__..__/'\ ( | . | ) ) /==00==\ ( __________/__/~~\__/~~\__\_____________ BE TRUE TO THINE SELF ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #475 ***************************
