So this letter is to invite you to invite us to come and sing and play in your house (or any appropriate space). For us (and other musicians we know) it's really unusual and different to plan a series of shows at places other than bars and clubs and theaters. We're used to doing that "serious tour" kind of thing, and that's what makes this sound like such a good adventure. Bring the music to the people! And bring the people to the music... The next "window of opportunity" on our schedules seems to be the beginning of August. If you think you might like to host a living room concert around that time, please let us know by phoning or e-mailing our "Living Room Tour Coordinator," our friend Bart Mendoza, a San Diego musician himself. We'll turn the rest of this letter over to him to explain the guidelines.... We're off to sing our new songs in some San Diego clubs. See you in your living room? Love, Cindy Lee Berryhill and Elizabeth Hummel From: Bart Mendoza, Living Room Tour Coordinator email: lisaconway@pacbell.net phone: 619-298-9233 (any hour is okay) Hi EDAs... The dates CLB and EH have available are from August 1st thru August 10th. If you want to host a living room show, let me know as soon as possible, and I will organize the tour based on geographical considerations. (Tell me what state and city you're near!) Please include your phone number (and best time to call) as well as e-mail address. What's Required from an EH/CLB Living Room Concert Organizer: Deposit: We'll need a $100. deposit once I tell you it looks like we can fit ou in geographically. This is against proceeds--we suggest $10. per attendee, and in order to begin to cover Cindy and Elizabeth's travel costs it would be good if they end up receiving $200. (or more) per concert. 20 attendees at $10. each or 10 attendees at $20. or whatever works... Sound equipment is not required; but if a PA is available it will be put to good use. Please help me locate an appropriate motel for the ladies to retreat to after the show is over. Anybody want to make a T-shirt? Hope to hear from you soon, music-loving Angels.... I ask everyone to pause for a moment of respect and reflection. The 61 year-old Shabazz was injured June 1st by her own grandson who, upset because he was made to move from Texas to live with his grandmother in New York, set her and her apartment on fire. The murder of Mrs. Shabazz ends the life of a woman who suffered from violence for most of her life -- her husband, a figure in the civil rights movement and Moslem church, was murdered in 1965. But this event highlights a frightening fact: that violence is truly senseless. Beyond ideological differences, beyond religious persecution, beyond racism, beyond hate, all violence comes down to an twelve year-old boy who, upset because he had to live with his grandmother, will commit murder. Have we progressed over the past thirty years? Has the widow of Malcolm X left us any legacy? The Wallflowers....it just seems obvious that you don't like them. That doesn't make them bad. It just means you don't like their music. Maybe they need to grow a little, but some of their songs are different. Some are slower, some are faster...they are not all the same. Alanis....at least she collaborates with writing. Maybe she's not great at figuring out the music to go along with the lyrics. We are not all so talented at this as others. She has a really unique style of singing, and I don't think its bad. Jewel has recently been playing with a band in performances...so is she bad for not being Jewel and the Band? Besides, Alanis's music is just fun to listen to. Its good for dancing, and it makes people happy. I don't like Paula Cole's music either. But that doesn't mean (again) that she's a clone, or just plain bad. Sorry guys, that movie just looked extremely bad from the beginning... i decided not to waste my time and just listened to FG at the Borders listening stations... heh..... :) - --Lisa Multi-Comm Las Vegas Nv. 208.129.48.2 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Jun 1997 19:41:44 -0400 (EDT) From: Heather R Keenan Subject: question?? does anyone know if jewel is a vegetarian?? there are all these articles that say she eats veggie meals.....very odd....it makes me like her more, if its true xoxo Heather xoxo ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ "Is there still time? This is my first post so I'd like to introduce myself a little: NAME: Stanley Kuo FROM: LA, California SCHOOL: graduated from UC Riverside with degree in Business. Looking for work! FAVORITE COLOR: Blue. With Navy and sky being my favorite types of blue. FAVORITE BAND: JEWEL(She's the best of course), Tori Amos, Liz Phair, Cranberries, Veruca Salt, U2(old), Depeche Mode(old), frente!, Nanci Griffith(her music is just as beautiful as Jewel but she's still an unknown to most people) I can go on and on but those are few notables. I also listen to dance/pop, alternative, folk(few), few classical/musical, and just great music! FAVORITE JEWEL SONGS: I like all of them but few stand out: Near you always, WWSYS, YWMFM, I'm sensitive, Adrian(yeah!), Pieces of you, Little Sister, Morning Song. INSTRUMENT PLAYED: I will get a guitar soon and hopefully learn to play it as well as Jewel(sometimes wishes do come true you know) Unfortunately I don't know any other Jewel songs other than ones in POY so I want to know where you can buy/order her 150 or so songs she sings at her concert. Any place you know in LA that sells her concert tapes? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Jun 1997 19:53:09 -0400 (EDT) From: CornflkGl@aol.com Subject: NJC : once again, plea for Adopt-A-Newbie Parents... Since Mike's netiquette site has gone up, I've been getting a whole bunch more newbies. List vets, I NEED YOU !! Let me just say one more time that being an adoptive parent is VERY EASY. Your responsibilities as an adoptive parent are : - -- being nice to a newbie and answering any questions he/she has - -- watching your newbie on the list- and then nicely correcting any list etiquette problems they have ( like posting 4 one-sentence posts in a day ) THAT'S IT ! you, as a parent, do NOT have to : - -- make any tapes for your newbie ( although it's nice ) - -- invite your newbie over for sleepovers - -- literally ADOPT your newbie as a new family member - -- induct your newbie into the secret order of the Harris Clan It's not even hard to become a parent. No scary environment or background checks. I only ask a few things of adoptive parents : - -- Familiarity with the story of how JewelStock came to be, whether or not they attended - -- What Jewel's middle name is ( this one's REALLY easy ) - -- The TRUE story behind the Harris Brothers ( which I didn't learn until months after I'd joined the list, and I'd met them both ) - -- List etiquette IF you are interested in becoming an adoptive parent, please visit http://www.thespis.com/newbie to fill out a survey. I'll send you a copy of the survey your newbie filled out, and voila ! A pretty little nuclear family you will be !! Love, Rachel :) PS- Although this almost never happens, I DO have the right to decide which list members get to adopt. Very rarely, I'll decide not to let someone become a parent. Believe it or not, bands exist long before you hear them on the radio. The Wallflowers' "Bringing Down The Horse" is their SECOND album. The first came out year before Counting Crows' "August and Everything After"! These musicians we discuss here are real people. You have to factor in "life before commercial success" to get the whole picture. Don't bury your head in MTV or MuchMusic or you'll get tunnel vision. Sorry to come off sounding pissy but I like The Wallflowers and they take a lot of flack for things that have nothing to do with them. Someone's gotta stick up for them! It was not a bad breakup, not a fight, or anything like that, it was just that the time came for it to happen, she needed some time to sort parts of her life. She asked me a favor though, that i would write a poem for her. I did. I was wondering if i could get some of your opinions to see if it is not too harsh or something like that...ladies especially! here it goes: My eyes will remember the pride they felt when they Saw that your smile was for them They will remember the eyes that looked into mine And found their way through me My nose will remember the sweetness of your scent As I brushed your hair away from your eyes and moved closer It will remember fondly the nuzzling Of your closeness to me My ears will remember the flush they felt When you shyly whispered your desires to them They will remember the precious music sounding even more glorious Just because you just lay next to me My fingers will remember the softness of your skin As they searched it for your sighs They will remember gripping you closer Trying to absorb the pain that you would not let go of My lips will remember the timelessness of your kisses As I unabashedly stole them from you when I could They will remember the truths they spoke as you drew them out of me My heart will remember the joyous flutters of anticipation As the time to see you came near It will remember the uninhibited excitement As our passions coursed between us I will remember the love inside of me That I was afraid to give to you I will remember the hope in my soul That you will remember, there will always be a love within me For You.
