I just read that sick post about someone finding their dead roommate or whatever it was. Why are Angels involved in any of this stuff? Was the sender of this message a list member? Being an EDA is, in my opinion, making a commitment to all that is good in the world. Posts like this are shocking and repulsive. I am not a superstitious person so I don't buy into chain letters and all that but I think that just the fact that someone could send a message like tat to so many people repulses me. I don't know who sent that or whatever but I think that it is unsuitable to be read. I think we should be looking at the good things on life and trying to stop the bad, instead of glamorizing them in Hollywood and with letters like that. I'm am now wondering if anything can go onto the list. I was under the impression that this was a list to discuss Jewel, and other matters relating to her. Sending chain-letters threating this sort of thing is not cool, it's not funny, and it;s most certainly disgusting, and very infantile behavior. Seeing things like this in the digest version seems to be even worse. Doesn't anyone check the e-mails,not read them all, but at least look fro appropriateness, before they go into the digest? I am considering taking myself off of the list, especially if this is the kind of thing that I can expect to see in my mail-box with the Jewel-digest mail every day! And, in the end, whatever will be will be. (This is not the start of a Doris Day thread...) I had assumed, and it sounds like it was a wrong assumption, from your first post that you had concert pictures of Jewel. I've been in journalism (as a writer) for well over a decade and have worked with some of the top portrait and editorial photographers in Canada during that time. They are not legally constrained by the artists they have shot, from printing such images and selling them in a gallery, or selling them to multiple publications (that would depend only upon what agreement they had made with the original publishing outlet) nor are they prevented from donating such images to charitable causes. Clearly, by your explanation, you have entered into some far more binding agreement with somebody in order to have taken your pictures. And from the sounds of it, the images were not taken in an editorial context but were part of some special photo shoot which you had to have approved by "management" of some organization. Perhaps if you were to enquire of whomever gave you the permission in the first place for your photo shoot (was it a record company, a special venue, an employer of some sort? etc.) as to the precise legal considerations you're facing when dealing with making a donation to charity, then you'll have your answer. It sounds, though, like you may not feel it's possible to contribute under the circumstances -- sometimes it be that way. The other point of misunderstanding seems to be that it can hard, within the less-humanistic patterns of the business world, to appreciate the unique relationship that exists between Jewel and the EDAs. As just one example, the concept of Angel Food would be foreign to most artists -- but on this list it's just one of the ways that Jewel and her fans share. The organic processes I alluded to in an earlier post are evident in the development of the James Paul Kalanick Trust fund-raising by EDAs -- a process which Igor has been elemental in shepherding. Autonomously, the EDAs and Jewel work to fulfill their dreams and to help make the world a better place. This is the kind of charity that doesn't run along bureaucratic or officious lines. But it is most definitely legal and valid. It's business and money-raising with soul. What more could you ask? I spoke with Jewel in San Diego just before Hot Dog Fest regarding our help with an old matter. She asked a small audience that at the sound check during her last concert of the "tiny lights tour" to start calling radio stations and request her new single "Foolish Games" I told her that we were working on a Rugburn song, that Steve told me was released. Turns out that the song was not released. Anyway Jewel asked that we start requesting FG. The radio stations didn't have the CD yet, at the time so a few list veterans advised that we wait until now. For you newbies, Jewel is not only a favorite singer that we all share. She's a good friend to all of us! You may never have met her, and still she holds a special place in heart for you as an EDA. When Chelsea and I met her in Denver, Chelsea mentioned "Everyday Angels" and Jewel's face lit up like we were her family. Please, help our friend out by calling as many radio stations as you possibly can. When we call a radio station, we are not Everyday Angels or fans of Jewel in an unconventional way. We are fans of music, in general and a sample of the general population of listeners, and the song that we want to hear, is "Foolish Games" by Jewel. If you choose to call a radio station outside of your area, dial *67 first so that you make it immpossible for them to trace the call. Angels..Imo..don't have to be all good..and being good doesn't mean not being fascinated with death sickness, but esp. pain. I consider myself to be good but I am fascinated with pain, at least my own. This post really has NoTHInG to do with the message itself, this just struck a chord. Or something :) If you've ever seen Angus(ok its a little corny but it was REALLY good) he was an angel and then again he wasn't. I don't believe it is possible to make a commitement to ALL that is good in the world..well,i guess i don't believe its possible to always follow it. I'm not blaming the writer of this message(i forgot your name dude!) for the way you worded it, or am angry for it being your personal belief. I am finally back from my 10 day trip to Italy! It is so extremely beautiful over there!! Liz checked a CD store in London during our 5 hour layover to Boston and she said they don't even have the POY CD there! Anyways, I'm still not use to this 7 hour time change. I'm sleeping in the afternoon and a wake at night! I can't believe I'm finally home. My parents surprised me at the airport by bringing my best friend w/ them. I was so shocked because I haven't seen him for so long! They also brought me a welcome home balloon! I love them so much. Italy is a very beautiful country and I can't say that enough. I also went to Greece. Delphi is such a breath taking city!!! The scenery is just gorgeous. I can't wait to get my pictures developed, I used up 7 rolls of film!! I miss waking up in the morning and looking at the beautiful scenery. But it feels so good to be back in my own bed!! Despite the fact I only slept for a short time, I got back at midnight and had to get up early and work the next day. It was a good sleep because prior to that I had not slept for 48 hours straight!! The last day of our trip Liz made us all try out the baday ( I can't spell it but it is that thing that looks like a toilet that washes you off.) It was a true experience!! Italy has created many enjoyable memories for me and I finally like in the movie While You Were Sleeping got a stamp in my passport from Florence!!! Well I'm gonna try to get a nap in before I leave in 2 hours for work so goodnight. I just finished lunch, a Subway veggie salad, and I could taste all the veggies, the pickles, the hot peppers, the olives, and oh my! even the Saltines were delicious. What a lunch! Enjoyment, contemplation of the minutae are as delightful as the overblown, overhyped, and overdone. Salad as metaphor (sp please?) - Jewel's songs are to me a salad, that is mostly lettuce, perhaps 3 or 4 kinds. Added on top are some thinly sliced red onion, maybe some garlic, diceded carrots scattered as so many diamonds for me to mine from the bed of greens, green peppers lie like so many viens of quartzite. Pickles and olives float along this sea of vegetation, life-rafts amidts the Fat-Free Italian Dressing (tm). Chunky pieces of tomatoes, strewn like the carcasses of so many burned-out cars in a junk yard of plant-life, all waiting to succumb to my fork, knife, and 32 exposed bones arranged by size and usage within my eating orriface, a veritable assembly line of epicurial destruction... I'm still having some problems with some changes I made to the system here to try to improve mail delivery time. The problem resulted in another huge mail backlog (boy, you guys sure do send alot of email!) and I was trying to clear the backlog out. Unfortunatly, one side affect of what I was doing is that some people may get the same message delivered twice. I'm trying to get things stabilized before I leave the country, so please bear with me... I was wondering if any of you out in the Albequerque/Santa > Fe area are heard this or if any of you on the list have programs of a Well, since there aren't very many of us from AlbUquerque (notice the "u", not "e" :), I guess I'll answer this. I posted about hearing the same live version of YWMFM on the radio a few weeks ago. The show is on The Edge, and it's called "Live at 5:00." I think this show is pretty cool cuz they play a half hour of live stuff every day, but it's also kind of bad. Most of the stuff they play comes from illegal bootlegs, and this is including Jewel. I don't listen to the show that often, so YWMFM is the only song I've heard them play by her, but I'm sure they'll start playing some others soon. And, I just posted about this yesterday, but any other NEW MEXICO EDA's out there, EMAIL ME!!!! I know that w/ the amount of newbies we've had lately, some of you have to live here! So don't be shy! Dancer and I are thinking of having a little EDA gathering in a while, and we need more people! *hugs* Emily ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Jun 1997 00:30:29 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: Re: Jewel's Setlist Rockfest (DANCING BAREFOOT!)
