I just subscribed to this list a few minutes ago and have already gotten about 20 e-mails from it. We are all on this list for the same reason (I'm assuming) I'm a 16 year old guy who lives in Great Falls, Montana. Blonde hair, blue eyes, 144.5 lbs, (Today happens to be my birthday) Since we are all trying to describe the feeling Jewel gives us as well as a little chit chat about her and each other, I would like to share with you my (common) story. When I first bought her CD, I bought it through one of my music membership clubs. Little did I know, I had ordered her CD from each one so I received two. I gave one to my sister. The only song I listened to was "Who will save your soul" until I was driving on a long trip with my sister and she put in her Cd of Jewel. My sister instantly fell in love with the singing and so did I!!!! (Remember I never heard the other songs until she played them) The rest is simple. I couldn't get enough of her music through my system and so I downloaded EVERYTHING I could find about her. That's how I found this list. I don't know any poetry so I can't share any with you..(none that you would be impressed by). I just like writing love poetry by making analagies. But, the reason I wrote this is because I was going to do something and I am interested to hear your feedback. I know Jewel doesn't repond very well to her mail but I was going to write her a letter inviting her to visit me. I want her to spend a day with me. She could go to Universal Athletics and work out with me or play racquetball in the morning and visit different places in Montana. I will have to write it in such a way that it convinces her. It's just an idea and I want to be with her. The music she writes made me look past the words and see her (not like I see Mariah Carey or Celine Dion) but as a person. Perhaps I didn't explain that right. Well, I think I have written enough and I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about. Please tell me what you think and what pointers can you give me? Aaah, I see 3 more messages have arrived. It appears that two other people have the same birthday as me. June 18...Paul McCartney (whoever that is) and a member on this list....oh wait...another person..but I forgot the name. "Mow not the grass that's short....but the grass that's long" (I made that up when I was mowing the lawn)(Told you I'm not good) (Unless it's love poetry) - ----Brian brian_ostrum@geocities.com http://www.geocities.com/Paris/4918 P.S. Are we allowed to send attachments on this list? P.P.S. I want to buy a recording of some Jewel that's unreleased with "Chime Bells" and "RaceCar Driver"...where do I go? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Jun 1997 00:11:21 -0700 From: Mike Thiel Subject: Re: Jewel: The Next Dylan? My name is Julie and I am looking for a friend of mine, Tom Proven, who is a HUGE Jewel fan and who seems to have vanished off the face of the earth. I am hoping that someone out there has communicated with Tom recently and can tell me wher he is! I think he is in Pennsylvania, or near it. He is never far from a computer and always checks in. If anyone knows where he is, or has his e-mail ,or that of a friend of his, please contact me at Julied@wolfhead.com. Sorry, I just have to give my two pesos on this whole Dylan-Jewel comparison thing. First, I would rather have one Jewel song than all of Dylan's. Don't get me wrong! - I like him, but his music lacks something Jewel's has: hope. Critics and fans can jump up and down and proclaim him to be a genius until everyone in the whole world believes it, but music is such an individual thing - how can such a claim ever be proven about anyone (except for Jewel of course, who is without a doubt a genius ;-) )? Oh, and one more thing before I get off my soap box. Imagine that you are in a smoky little New York club in the 60's and there is Bob "musical-social-political-philisophical-anti-establishment-blah-blah revolutionary" Dylan singing his famous protest song "The Times they are a Changin'". At the end of it, you stand up and say "Excuse me, Mr.Dylan, but what would you say if I told you that in 30 years you would sell that to the Bank of Montreal to be used as their theme song?" Well, he did it kids! Sad but true :( He lost a lot of credibility - I mean, do you think he was *that* desperate for money? I'm sure Jewel would sooner move back into her VW van :) Fellow Cultist P.S. What the heck does that Newsweek writer (the one who wrote about Shawn Colvin) have against Jewel? Couldn't he just write about his topic without dragging her into it (three times, I believe!!!). She must be pieces of him. Hi, I'm John from Topsfield MA. I've been a fan for about 2 years now and have been a list member on and off for about a year. Wow...there sure are a ton of people on it now! Great to see so many folks are getting into Miss Kilcher's music! (although it would be wonderful for her to play a surprise show at the Middle East some night...*sigh*) Anyway... I have a couple question's maybe y'all might be able to help me out with. Bay Staters....please, my tix for the Harbor Lights show are in section 2 row W. I have no idea if these are anywhere near good seats. I was just wondering if anyone who has been to Harbor Lights knows what the layout is like and whether I should bring binocs or a hearing aid :) And another query....for those who are keeping track of such trivial things. I play guitar and I know (as many of us do) that Jewel uses D'addario EJ-16 strings....Okay....*but* does anyone know what gauge they are? I really love her tone, and I know that has alot to do with her her guitars but I would love to slap a set of those puppies on my Ovation and see how they work out for me. :) Any and all responses would be appreciated! I hope to see some of you at the Harbor Lights show....this will be my 3rd time seeing her...I can't wait!!!! Thanks in advance, JAC "Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom.
