Yet, It is good EVERYONE is starting to recognize that Jewel is great!!! We are succeeding in spreading Jewel!! =)) They also have a nice article in Web Page Mag about Jewel and Sheryl Crow!!! As those who saw Jewel's latest Letterman performance may recall, her hands were all over the place during that rendition of Foolish Games. Last evening, however, Jewel kept her hands clasped, thus causing the camera to focus primarily on her face. Unlike most performers, Jewel still allows her emotions to control her facial mannerisms. I find this one of the strongest reasons for my enjoying Jewel. So too is the case with Joe Cocker. While he, in my opinion, is certainly not as talented as Jewel, he too surrenders his professional demeanor to raw emotion. Because of that, I always enjoy seeing Cocker perform. My poem, "Lullaby," which I submitted made it to the final round of judging. AND... I AM GETTING PUBLISHED IN THEIR WINTER ANTHOLOGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They sent me back a copy of my poem to make any last minute changes if I want to, to iron out some typos if any exist, blah blah blah, and they wrote only one comment, that it was a "beautiful and expressive poem." I am so excited I think I am going to cry. At the end of the letter congratulating me, I found the words "Good luck with your poetic career and journey." It was part of their form letter, but still...wow...*I* am a poet. I always knew this, but *I* am being *recognized* as a poet. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Heya Bill, Bill makes some excellent points. From a getting things done and doing good deeds point I think he's right. Collectively, we've done, probably more than most mailing lists and we could continue this. I'm certain, we have the creativity here for a lot of good ideas and the will to implement them. But, there are a couple of benefits that a more formal organization affords, benefits like tax status so someone who is collecting our money doesn't get funny calls from the IRS or Revenue Canada asking why they have X thousand dollars in an account or on their person. It provides a means of asking EDA's who aren't a part of the mailing list to help in our projects and it provides them with some concrete entity to believe will get the job done. Anyone else? It was great that Renee introduced Jewel on the awards show. I'm glad that she told the world that she realizes her and Jewel look alike! Maybe now, people will let it go...I thought it was so appropriate that she was the one introducing her. It was also cute that they both acknowledged that they're fans of one another. They do have a remarkable resemblence, but it's been talked about so much that I'm just glad she basically was trying to tell the world, "Hey, we *know* we look alike!" Jewel's performance was great as always...she toned down the hand movement...not sure of the reason (if any). She sang great though...and her hair looked nice a little longer (looks like it's growing some). Kind of looks like it did back in the Innerchange days. I noticed Gwen was sitting with Gavin in the audience...still not sure about that whole thing...they weren't very close to one another. I've only seen half the show (up to the Jewel performance), so I'll have to watch the rest tonight. I thought Bush did a nice job on their performance as well...sometimes they don't sound very good live. What if Jewel really is just "goodness" personified? What if Jewel represents all that is good in the world and Whitney Houston represents all that is evil in the world. What if they met at the 1997 Grammy awards, both up for best female vocalists. Ironically, they are both seated in the same section. Jewel comes dressed in a stylish white dress. Whitney Houston comes dressed as SATAN. Throughout the award cerimony, Houston banters Jewel, talking trash just to get a rise out of her. But it's unsuccesful. Jewel turns the other cheek, just knowing that her victory will not just be a victory for herself and her fans, but a victory for all mankind and the future of the entire universe. Bea Arthur walks gracefully to center stage holding the envelope that bares the name of "Best Female Vocalists". The audience sits in anticipation, with the knowledge that if Houston's name is called out all that is evil and perverted in the world will have power and control over the human race. Even Jewel is begging to worry. The Grammies have been known to be rather tricky. How else could you explain Sheryl Crow and Hootie and The Blowfish. Bea Arthur opens the envelope and looks at the audience in disbelief. A drop of sweat dribbles down Jewels cheek. Houston bares an unsettling grin. Bea Arthur says trembling "And the winner is...." Anita Baker soils herself in the front row due to the unbelievable suspense. "BONNIE RAITT !!" - Skinny Pete p.s.
