What an array of talentless overpayed mysogynistic hacks. Jewel was one of very very very few points of light and definitely brought class to a classless affair. But I don't really wanna go too into the whole MTV sucks thing, so as for Jewel's performance. Much like the Letterman performance of "Foolish Games" it was surprisingly good. It was a little reserved and didn't quite pack the power and oomph that it can, she opted to hold one note longer in the second "chorus" instead of killing many notes in the first one. But still, an emotive performance, this time standing at a still mic instead of holding the mic in hand. She seemed to be intentionally holding back, but again, I have little to criticize ina negative way about this version of "Foolish Games" by Jewel, again bringing so much class to an affair that was obviosuly beneath her. And Renne Zellweger looked kinda bad, not much like Jewel, who looked reserved but gorgeous if a little heavy on the makeup again. Ellen Barkin reminds me of what Jewel could look like in her early 40s if she is that lucky. Anyway, MTV concentrates enough on shallow superficial looks so I won't dwell on that anymore. So, kudos to Jewel again, criticism is good, I'm out of here. That was pretty cool that they had Rene introduce Jewel. Probably one of the only funny parts of the award show, BABY! FG was done well, as usual. Well, that is all. I loved it!!! The minimal backup (compared to Saturday Night Live) of piano and cello was tasteful and didn't distract from Jewel. She looked great - at ease and in total control, unlike Saturday Night Live. The set design and camera work also complimented Jewel's performance, which was as good as any I've seen of her on TV. I could be reading into it, as an unabashedly enthusiastic EDA, but I got the feeling that, due to Jewel's spectacular popularity these days, the crowd was very excited to see her performance. Jewel certainly delivered a flawless emotionally impassioned one. I can't wait to see the Unplugged show!!! BTW, for all of you who have been asking when the remaining parts of "Kris and Shana's European Adventure" will be posted, I just got back all the photos from the trip, including great ones of Jewel performing at the Quasimoda Cafe in Berlin. I'm scanning them now and will post the complete fully illustrated saga of "Kris and Shana's European Adventure" on a website early next week. Also, three cheers for Igor and all who participated in the Channel 8 interview for representing all EDA's.
