Quick prelude: I have been a freelance witer for a few years now, writing for local newspapers and magazines whenever I can. I decided that I would have a better chance at a career if I go to college. So, come August 12, I will begin college life at Western Ky Univ. But before that date comes, I want to write ONE MORE article for the local rags. So I talked to the Editor of the Hendersonville Star News, Mr Mike MacClanahan. I said if he could get me two all access passes (for myself and my photographer)to the August 5 Lilith Fair at Starwood in Nashville, TN, I could give him the best article of my life. He said "okay" with one catch: I have to do the legwork of giving him the names and numbers of people to talk to. So, here is where my favor comes in. I know Lenedra LOVES EDA's, which I am proud to say I am one. But I no not how to contact her, or anyone else in the Jewel organization who has both the passion and the means to help me out. So I turn to the vets and newbies of the list. If you folks know how to contact 'Nedra, or if you wish to contact her on my behalf, I would GREATLY appriciate it. Please e-mail me privately with ideas, responses, or any other important info. I sincerely want to write a great article, and I also want to paint the TRUE picture of Jewel, not the one the mainstream press has been presenting. Who better to speak of Jewel than one of her own EDA's? Please help me. I will be forever in your debt. The Anticipatory Angel Jamie L. JEWEL Pieces of You Growing up in Alaska, Jewel had very few luxuries - no shower, no TV and an icy outhouse for a bathroom. But courtesy of her parents, an Alaskan singer/songwriter duo, there was always music and singing. It was in her senior year of high school that she took up the guitar and first began to write songs. She had no desire to go to college and no desire for a 9-to-5 job. So she pursued her music dream by moving to California, living in a van and playing at a San Diego coffeehouse. Jewel is considered one of the hottest singers in music today. Her debut album, Pieces of You, features the hit songs "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "You Were Meant For Me". ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jun 1997 20:09:35 PDT From: "Luke Nye" Subject: stern talking about jewel I was watching howard stern on E! and he was talking about the late show think w/ the political guy. he said he was just talking to her and the other guy was looiing at her breasts and she just tuned around and yelled at him. and he thought maybe i wont go to the movie with her. then he said how could we not stare we are hetrosexuals. I must say that this interview for Channel 8 went really well today, although I think most of my pleasure came with hanging out with such a great group of people more than the prospect of being on TV. Igor, thank you VERY much for breakfast. I think it is great that this community will hear more about the EDA Foundation, and I can only hope that it will gain incredible response in terms of hopefully gathering some more connections in the community that may allow us to help more people as we have James. We are all doing a great thing here, and I must say KUDOS to everyone envolved...all over the country! All in all, I had a great time...even with the short flaming I had to do. Sorry if that bothered anyone, but sometimes you have to give people a perspective, in hopes that they, in turn, do more positive things, and keep in mind the influence that they have to do positive with what they have for someone other than themselves. I want to say a special hello to the wonderful young ladies that Nancy calls her own. You have obviously done an impecable job raising these two extraordinary girls that I am sure will change the world. I can only hope that I have the honor of spending more time with them in the future. Everyone, I had a great time. Every meeting is more and more enjoyable. Let's continue to support, and love each other. Just wanted to update you all that the EDA guitar picks that Mandy ordered for Jewel and the EDAs are expected in any day now. Mandy will be spearheading the distribution process once we finalize all the plans. Hopefully a post with these plans will be made within two weeks to the end of the month. (the picks aren't even in yet, and with Murphy's Law and all.....well, ya know :) Anyway, I'm also sure *many* new members are going...."EDA Guitar picks? Huh?" :) Well, about a month before Jewel's birthday, *many* ideas were floating around on what the EDAs might give Jewel for her birthday. One of the ideas that came to light were EDA guitar picks. To make a long story short, we ordered up 720 guitar picks with an EDA logo and saying on them, in one of the styles/gauges Jewel uses, and plan on giving Jewel 120 of them and selling the other 600 at cost to list members. Also, due to various happenings we missed having these picks ready for her birthday by a few weeks. (Sometimes It Be That Way :) So, please sit tight and news should be forthcoming. :) In the meantime, PLEASE do not email me for any info on this project. ALL of the necessary information you will need to get some picks will be in the post from Mandy (or me) detailing the instructions. This forthcoming post will include a web site address where you can view the final pick design. Your fellow EveryDay Angel, Mike :) P.S. To answer some questions I've received about Jewel-announce. You will recieve one copy of this post for EVERY list version you subscribe to, for every address. This post will go to every address subscribed to Jewel@smoe, Jewel-digest and Jewel-news. So if you subscribe to two of the lists, you will get two copies. If you subscribe to two versions on one address, and another version on another address, you will get three copies. Since I also sent it to the regular list, all subscribers to "loose mail" will get an extra copy. If you don't subscribe to any version of this list, you aren't reading this ;) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jun 1997 22:11:20 -0600 From: Rich Bingham Subject: absouletely NJC: Screwed up my Sig Hi again. sorry, my sig was supposed to be: {\o/\o/} Each of us are angels with only one wing {\o/\o/} /_\/_\ and can only fly by embracing each other /_\/_\ Not that you should care, just thought I'd share ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jun 1997 00:15:47 -0400 (EDT) From: QTPIE18LPN@aol.com Subject: Re: i'm not impared but... I've worked with musicians most of my life and I can tell you that NOW is a real delicate time. At this first real national level of success a huge decision has to be made (while you get pulled in all directions). You have two options. You can stay the same and protect the formula that brought you your initial success. You'll get crucified for staying the same. If you change, you'll get crucified for changing. Staying the same is boring. And change is interesting. Jewel is probably making that choice. And I think she'll opt for being crucified for changing. At this stage people become attracted to the smell of success and they'll tell you "Don't change". But as soon as the scene gets bigger (like now) things have to change. And so now we hear people saying "She's changed, man". This is what's hapnin (in my opinion). It's a weird struggle sometimes. Best wishes to all.------Alan B ******************************************************************************* From: Carter Navarro Date: Wed, 12 Jun 1996 11:56:18 -0700 Subject: Initiating Failure Sequence Hi everybody! I just failed my first final in *New Chinese Cinema* today, and am looking forward to failing my second and final final this Friday! If you, too, can fail a class where the homework is watching movies from Hong Kong, I want to shake your hand! At least the Friday final is Intermediate Macroeconomics, so I won't feel exceedingly pitiful when I blow that one. But never mind all that! After 3 p.m. on Friday, I will be free to pursue wine, women, and song or, in my case, Cuervo 1800 and Jewel Kilcher. More evidence that Paul Kim and I are the same person: whenever someone mentions the anime classic "Akira" to me, I begin yelling "KANEDAAAAAH! TETSUOOOO!" uncontrollably. OK, I do it controllably, but when was the last time you heard someone "yelling controllably?" I only have the American soundtrack to "Akira," without all the screaming young Asians, but I also have a friend with the Japanese version, replete with screaming, guttural wretching sounds, and sickening explosions of bodily fluids. I love this movie! I may be stupid, but I'm not crazy, or maybe it's the other way around, but the jet stream isn't powerful enough to carry me from Sunnyvale, California, to Woodstock, New York. The only conceivable way I could get there is if an F5 tornado rips me out of my house and sets me down in Saugerties. I have a pretty good stomach for motion sickness, but my bones have qualms about staying non-fractured in 260+ mph winds. So I ask one of the more devoted (i.e., "richer" and/or "closer") among you to threaten Miss Kilcher with a large sponge in my honor and headbang off the 5% chance she gives you "Chime Bells." I will also be missing Jewel this Friday in Mountain View (ten bloody miles from my house, grrrAWWWWrrr!) due to the aforementioned economics final. The name of this wondrous event is the Live 105 BFD and will also be featuring another of my favorite singing male-torturers, Shirley Manson of Garbage. They say BFD means "Big F**king Deal" but it ACTUALLY means "Big Fierce Dinosaurs," and they're going to be releasing a horde of those newly discovered African super-Tyrannosaurs on all y'all unsuspecting dupes. I guess I'll just have to hear the "Jewel 'N Carnivorous Carnage Concert" over the radio. What, you want Jewel content? Uhh, well, that "WWSYS" video HAS been a bit suspicious lately, though I'm too busy to delineate exactly what has been altered. Miss Kilcher's album got up to number thirteen (ooooh, lucky!) on the Rolling Stone readers' top twenty, and "WWSYS" hit number nine on VH-1's countdown the last time I checked. Now, howabout another single so KOME stops beating that song into the ground? I'm partial to "Foolish Games" myself. I tried an Arch Deluxe. "New from McDonald's: The Whopper!" Ronald sure did grow up; he's become a corporate shark. Anyway, Burger King deserves a nice big stab in the back after Xeroxing the penultimate of burgers, Carl's Jr.'s Western Bacon Cheeseburger. Maybe mimeographing is a better term, since the Western Whopper is as poor an imitation as Bush is of Pearl Jam. I am almost out. Rejoice. - - - Carter, Ever-ready Flu Victim ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #430 ***************************
